Just some random thoughts about the end of s5 I previously shared with Marcy. Thought I'd share with the rest of you. I'm sure some will come up in Sunday's chat ....
I think the GA music coordinator is approaching genius, especially after this year. The music on there is like a whole other character.
I am bummed that George won't be back. I liked him and it is a shame they didn't use him more this past season. He and Bailey are kind like the heart and soul that keep everyone else going. He will be sorely missed and if Shonda Rhimes had not lucked out with KMK as such a strong, strong addition to the cast I think the show would be seriously hurting. KMK has saved that show.
I do think how they intertwine George's exit, however, will be good for the Owen-Yang storyline. Lots of angst I'm guessing. Especially since Bailey kinda read Owen the riot act in the ER telling him to fix George's enlistment. I thought it was kinda interesting how they subtly slipped that in there amongst all the commotion of saving the - at that point anonymous - bus guy. (I knew it was George from the beginning.)
I think Bailey's words, and accusal of Owen, may come back to be a big point in the s6 plot lines. We all know Owen doesn't have many friends as of yet and Sloan made the comment about Owen pissing off all the women. Very interesting. Very sly Shonda Rhimes.
I love Bailey but the more I think about it, the ruder I think she was to Owen in this particular situation. She basically spilled his can of beans all over the ER when she said she knew he was messed up from the war. The add-on of "and not in a small way" was particularly biting. (Look at Owen's reaction.)
Not that most of them in the room didn't already know he was suffering PTS - but Baily wasn't necessarily privy to everything everyone else knew (then again, she IS Bailey) and, even if she was, it was still rude and uncalled for. She should have been less public.
Add in that Owen is obviously a very private person and holds things close to the vest (example: Derek talking to him on the bench outside in ELL and Owen becomes upset and wants to know who all Meredith has told) and you have some very intriguing season 6 storylines:
Will George really die? Or just go off to recovery?
(I'm expectig a twist)
Will everyone blame Owen?
(they are gonna want to blame someone)
Will he blame himself?
How will Christina react?
(she was starting to ride an uncharacteristic Yang high)
Will she stand by Owen?
(George's accident is another bump in their road, no matter what)
Will Derek still support Owen?
(the only person thus far to extend a friend branch to the man)
Will any of this sink him deeper into PTS?
Will it trigger memories of his unit?
Will we get to find out what really happened in Iraq?
(I'm hoping flashback scenes ...!!!)
(I need gritty details!!!)
When will the poor man ever get some freakin' friends and acceptance?
And finally .. how many more of you thought TPTB started to drop the ball on the whole PTS/Hunt/Yang story near the end of the season? They *really* have an opportunity here. I'm praying they don't screw it up.
They need follow thru (meaning we need to see it onscreen) with Owen's progression, regression, and other twists and turns in dealing with PTS. He better not be 'fixed' after a couple of onscreen therapy sessions and a lot of exposition. That would be a total disservice to the storyline.
Yes, it will be nice to have a Yang romance thrown in to boot (it is TV after all - and besides - Sandra Oh is so good!) But even if you take that away TPTB need to follow thru and not blow their golden opportunity to actually educate and enlighten viewers about a very serious subject. KMK is the right actor, with just the right touch, to pull this off. Give him the material and let him shine like he already has. (And next year he better get the freakin' EMMY!!)
