After a miscarriage, a near fatal gunshot wound and other heart-stopping moments in the Season 6 finale of Grey's Anatomy, it stands to reason that Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) may be journeying uphill in their relationship when the medical drama returns. When we catch up with the doctors of Seattle Grace, the series has jumped ahead in time. However, Meredith hasn't clued Derek in on her miscarriage in the aftermath of the shooting rampage at the hospital. "I know she's been avoiding telling Derek about that miscarriage, but eventually she does," Pompeo tells TVGuide.com. "He's devastated because I think he's the one who wants the child more than she does in many ways," Dempsey says about Derek's discovery, adding that his character may be pushing for a baby in Season 7. "It's life-affirming for him, so I think he would definitely want to have a child and develop his house and things like that." The consequences of Season 6 will make the doctors grow up this season, as executive producer Shonda Rhimes first told us. "I love that," Pompeo gushes on set as we pass on that news. "I love that she said that. That's fantastic. It is very exciting to see them in a more adult way." "I'm sure it's healthy," Pompeo continues on what we'll see for Meredith and Derek this season. "Hopefully we'll explore things that real couples go through with the decision to have a child, balancing the child with work and careers, and whose career is more important; however that goes." Seeing a healthy relationship is a blessing for Dempsey, who had struggled with the couple continually being ripped apart. "There's no way we can play that 'are they together or aren't they' anymore," he says. "I told Shonda that we have to either break them up or put them together and let them be in a healthy relationship, or at least really fighting hard to communicate." Another obstacle for the couple in Season 6 was the introduction of April Kepner (Sarah Drew), who took a shine to Derek, the then-fearless leader of the hospital. Pompeo thinks that crush has been, well, crushed. "I don't think they're going to pursue that at all," she says. "From a writing standpoint, they can't really do that because then the audience won't accept Sarah's character." Adds Dempsey: "The audience wants Derek to be who he is. They want him to be the guy who's understanding and is always there for Meredith, so there's not going to be any major shake-ups with him. I don't think people want that. I think people want the security from him being who he is." So when might we actually see a McBaby? Dempsey thinks the audience will be waiting awhile. "We've got two more seasons," he says. "So I think they'll struggle with it, and then probably not this season, but next season they'll maybe have a child. It won't happen that quickly." Grey's Anatomy returns for its seventh season Thursday, Sept. 23 at 9/8c on ABC. www.tvguide.com/News/Greys-Anatomy-Pompeo-1022621.aspx

I would love some Grey's Anatomy scoop about Derek! — Jaqueline ADAM: Don't let the stories about Derek being thrown in jail for becoming a speed freak fool you. He's actually coping with last season's bloody finale much better than the rest of the docs. "He gets cleared [for surgery] very early on," Patrick Dempsey tells us. "That's actually a fun scene." www.tvguide.com/News/MegaBuzz-Vampire-NCIS-Housewives-1022674.aspx

THIS JUST IN…Chyler Leigh on Lexie’s psych-o journey on GREY’S ANATOMYby Jim on September 8, 2010 Chyler Leigh says that Lexie is going to the psych ward in the new season of GREYS During a press call earlier today promoting her upcoming Lifetime movie The 19th Wife, Chyler Leigh was asked by one of my fellow journalists what is in the cards for Lexie after the graphic shooting that occurred at Seattle Grace last season on Grey’s Anatomy, which kicks off new episodes on Thursday, September 23rd on ABC. (More on The 19th Wife interview right here on Monday, September 13th, which is the airdate of the movie). Here is what Leigh had to say… Chyler Leigh: Right when we come back into it, you basically will start seeing the trauma manifest differently in every character. With my character in particular, she has a complete breakdown and she ends up having to go into the psych ward for a few days because she can’t shut her brain off so she doesn’t sleep. She’s plunging into the idea of what had happened and really trying to rationalize the idea of ‘OK, What happened to us? Was it a murder?’ and being the kind of character Lexie is she starts researching everything and can’t stop and can’t sleep and so she ends up having to break down…and so everybody handles it a bit differently. A new character comes in, James Tupper, and he’s a trauma therapist so everybody has to start doing mandatory counseling sessions and one-on-one and every person has to individually be cleared to go back to work. Some people do right away. My character, everybody sees her and starts looking at her different, especially since she has this complete breakdown – a quite public breakdown – and when it happens she feels she has to regain everybody’s trust and saying ‘I’m okay. I can handle this stuff. Let me do things’ but everybody starts tiptoeing around her thinking she’s going to crack again. The new season of Grey’s Anatomy kicks of Thursday, September 23rd at 9/8c on ABC. Source: jimhalterman.com/interviews/this-just-in-chyler-leigh-on-lexies-psych-o-journey-on-greys-anatomy

GREY'S ANATOMY Exclusive: TRANSFORMERS babe is Seattle Grace's newest doctor! Australian model-turned-actress Rachael Taylor—best known stateside for her role as “signals analyst” Maggie in Transformers—is joining Grey’s Anatomy for a multi-episode arc, sources confirm to me exclusively. Taylor’s character is still being conceived—she’s not scheduled to debut until midseason—but a Grey’s insider confirms that she will be playing a (surprise!) doctor. In addition to Transformers, Taylor also starred opposite Joshua Jackson in the 2008 horror flick Shutter. Season 7 of Grey’s gets underway on Sept. 23. Paging `Grey's Anatomy's' Sarah Drew AS SEEN ON TV Last season on ABC's Grey's Anatomy, she drooled over the happily married Dr. McDreamy, and was nearly killed at gunpoint by the madman who traumatized the folks of Seattle Grace. Thankfully, Season 7 promises to be much kinder to Grey's Dr. April Kepner. We chatted with Sarah Drew, the newest series regular, who plays the quirky doc on the hit show. What can we expect this season? ``Things are more lighthearted. James Tupper plays our grief counselor. After the shooting we were in a dark place and now everyone is beginning to heal. There's a lot more comedy and funny moments. We've been laughing like crazy at script readings.'' Does your character still have a crush on Dr. Derek Shepherd (played by Patrick Dempsey)? No, thank God! Everyone was hating my character. But after the shooting, she really let that go. This season, you'll see Meredith and April become friends. And my character, who is usually passive-aggressive, becomes more social. You'll see her fail, but also have great triumphs without taking anything away that makes her so delightful.'' You must learn a lot of medical jargon playing a doctor ``I do. My mom is a science teacher and she has a Ph.D in research so I think part of my brain is intrigued by medicine. I had to learn how to suture the other day and that was really fun. Sometimes I'm totally absorbed by what I'm doing that I forget I'm on a show. Is there anything special you do to prepare for work? ``I look up things on WebMD so I can visualize what I'm talking about and how a patient would react to a situation. I really enjoy learning that way.'' How gory is it on set when you film a scene in the operating room? ``We work with Bovine organs, which is cow's organs. The smell is repulsive and makes us all gag. And we use an actual soldering tool to solder the organs. It smells like burning flesh. There's also a lot of silicone and blood matter -- red Jello mixed with blood and chicken fat. It's pretty gross. Do the consultants on Grey's give the cast member's medical advice? ``Absolutely. We have the best doctors in the country at our fingertips. Whenever a family member has an issue, they set us up with the best care possible. It's a huge advantage.'' So far what are your favorite episodes? ``Keep your eye out for episodes 3 and 7.'' You've appeared on Everwood, Mad Men and Glee. Do you have any other acting plans? ``I'm shooting crazy hours, sometimes 13 hours a day. When I'm not shooting, I'm doing publicity stuff. I just hired a publicist and was offered to star in play, but had to say no. I don't have time. But I'm very grateful to be busy.'' -- MICAELA HOOD www.miamiherald.com/2010/09/19/1831648/paging-greys-anatomys-sarah-drew.html

Sandra Oh has explained the reasons for Cristina’s upcoming wedding on Grey’s Anatomy.
Earlier this year, it emerged that Cristina will marry Owen (Kevin McKidd) in the season seven premiere.
Oh has now explained that Cristina decides to tie the knot because of the shootings in the last finale.
“Big life things happen when people go through traumatic events that are life and death,” she told People. “You understand what is important to you. [Cristina] decides to get married based on an essential need to be safe.”
Oh also revealed that the ceremony is “relaxed and casual” and joked that the cast enjoyed the chance to dress up.
“Everyone [was] looking so great and glam,” she said. “It’s rare for us!”
The season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy will air on September 23 on ABC.
