Finally got to see it ... and thanks ladies for the lovely chat last night it really gave some insite into the show.. and different perspectives.. any who... I really found the first section of the show more disturbing than the actual finale. Watching characters who you know fall apart was heart wrenching. Although I felt they could have done a 2 epi back to back easily with all the info squashed in this one epi. I did enjoy the wedding scene and Mer was excellent but the proposal I felt it was a bit rushed, he was obviously intending to take her out and doing the romantic proposal thing but it seemed that it was just done to help Cris at that moment.... All in all I loved the show and enjoyed everyone even the new characters.... love Kevin's Blond hair .... ;-) looking forward to the next episode

Ella, I agree 100% and at a much deeper level that's right. But superficially, if we look at Cristina Yang at her most base level (and the way others see her) I think it's a plausible interpretation. I definitely think that the "I don't want to be alone" was about so much more than not having surgery, but surgery has become so intertwined with who Cristina Yang is as a person that it's difficult to separate it from everything else.
I also agree with you about Cristina's development in season 6. She came a long way and the lines between career and love were blurred. But there were a few instances where we were reminded that despite the fact she has a softer side, Cristina Yang is wired a certain way that other people are not, necessarily, and one of those ways is that in her mind she is a surgeon above all else.
Again, I think everything else you say is right. But at a basic level, without digging deeper, the shooting took Cristina's longest love away from her by making surgery the scariest thing she can think of. In asking Owen not to leave her alone, she acknowledges that she doesn't want to lose her other love.
Just my take. Thanks for clarifying Kaz. As you said in your original post, I too think we're meant to be happy and unsettled both by the SP. As much as Shonda talks about the characters having survived something major and now being ready to 'sit on the porch and watch the kids play' they're still all so fragile emotionally that the fallout will continue to be with them for a long time. That being said, to respond to your comments: Part of me is really ticked that they've tied Cristina's emotional graduation to her professional graduation and then taken away her ability to do surgery via her PTSD arc. Really ticked! I will love watching Cristina lean on Owen, should she be willing to do so, and to see Owen be her rock, should they not take him back to 'no clue' mode as he was in early S.6. Yet it's like they've removed cardio from the table again as a way to unfairly test her and her relationship with Owen by again making her choose. Been there, done that in that respect. As a bookend to Cristina being Owen's lifeline in S.5 and his struggle to accept that yet lean into his connection to her, now that I can get behind. To see her so scared, so fragile in that proposal scene I understood that at Cristina's base level she felt off center and Owen is offering her a chance to regain her center. As much as she wants it and it gives her a feeling of safety, that intersection of their attempts to understand each other's needs and to meet those needs will bring some interesting knowledge for them about themselves and their relationship. I hope we'll get more about their motivations as they struggle with how to move forward as husband and wife. Because you're right that Cristina is hardwired to view herself as a surgeon first, then next comes woman, wife, friend, etc. As much as I loved watching Owen come to love Cristina's dark dark mind in S.6 he is downright giddy at the prospect of being her husband and through that giddiness may have missed, until next week, how far down the rabbit hole she's gone. Yet I'll love seeing him step into that capacity having been there himself. Interesting too that the wedding planning seemed almost OCD-ish in terms of her focus, yet during the wedding itself she really seemed to find her footing. I loved how in the scene with Meredith in her bedroom we saw a bit of Cristina's spirit back yet she was subdued, kind of a combination of knowing she' s not a simple girl and doesn't really want to be, but wants her 'me and Owen' pretty concretely. And that's not, IMO, out of feeling her anxiety melting away by looking into Owen's besotted eyes, but rather knowing that she has solidified her connection with Owen and is able to settle into it. Once the dust settles and the realilty of being newlyweds bunking in Cristina's bedroom while Callie and Arizona drift around trying not to pop the pretty pink bubble, well...then we'll see Cristina and Owen figuring some things out, at least judging from the promo. But I'll chat about that elsewhere.

Not sure exactly where to post this but since the wedding was in 7.01 I think its appropriate here. Just thought it'd be interesting to have the two clips of Cristina's weddings together. The differences are startling obviously one happens one doesnt, but its a totally different Crsitina in each and for some reason Burke's speech in the first clip also made me think about when Owen went to get Cristina at Meredith's as well. Anyway its interesting to see these side by side, I tried to make a comparison vid but for some reason the files won't let me dowload
