Hey, you have no evidences of his death! As Heller said for Vorenus, Frankie never closed his eyes!! LOL So, 5) If Frankie survives, will he quit drinking? Why?
Good questions!!

mmm Marcy I think it might be easier to discuss on this thread otherwise your post will have no posts under it ... so here goes
I think poor old Frankie is caught in a cycle and it would happen over and over again, so yes he would drink

So I answer here. I think that many answers are possible. 1) Rutherford 2) Glass stones 3) Revenge is a drug, a brilliant "mutavida" motivator (thanks Rural, I didn't understand the word, only the sense!)for the hopeless 4) Frankie, because he only wanted to know their opinion and they were not able or didn't want to answer, only because they felt superior to him. The problem is he can only answer with violence to arrogance. 5) Yes, but I don't know for how many time. Maybe in another place he'd have had more possibilities, without his ex-friends around. He refused to drink the glass of whiskie he ordered in the pub and he wanted to start again his relationship with Mary. I think that it could be the right time, because he was winning his fear to be betrayed.

Actually Daniela we do know Frankie dies. Richard Jobson tells us point blank in the commentary.
On to Marcy's excellent questions:
1) Didn't know the name of the bar.
2) Glass that had been softened and altered by sea water and the collision of stones and sand.
3) "Revenge is a brilliant motivator for the hopeless"
4) I think Frankie asks a very valid question of the old couple and they were just too conceited to give him any credence. If they had bothered to listen I doubt they coud have really answered it anyway. Art is subjective. Obviously Frankie sees a pile of junk. He wants to know why it's 'perfect' as they claim. To him it probably never would be because he does not think the same way as the older couple. On the other hand, they bring their own life experience to the viewing and despite their arrogance, they might see something beautiful that is not readily apparent to someoe else. I don't think either party is right in this case. The older couple were just plain rude in their behavior.
5) If Frankie had survived and he could have faced Mary, I think he would have stopped drinking because he had glimpsed what the world could be like without the crutch of alcohol. And he knew he had friends because his fellow acting students stood up and supported him in the bar. For the first time he had people who wanted to be around him simply because of who he was and not because he intimidated them or could give them anything beyond his attention and respect.

I've read even that Jobson said you can think what you want, because in the movie he doesn't die, and that it's more obvious to think he dies, but if you think it's a story of hope, you can think what you want. Jobson said even that it's a story inspired to a true story, but that who inspired his script didn't die in that moment, but in other circumstances. So enough!! LOL

Rural's right Dani, Frankie dies with his eyes open. It's said in the film's commentary. Do you have the DVD version with commentary Dani so you can hear it? The whole thing is really interesting.

Interesting thought Rural regarding the old couple. Because of their life experience being more charmed than Frankie's, they could see the beauty and perfection in the art. Frankie, coming from the harsh life he did, could not. His frame of reference for "perfection" wasn't there.

Yes, I've uploaded it for the site. Tell the truth, are you looking for trouble? No, no and no!! Frankie doesn't die at the end of the movie. Oh! You are very cruel!! How do you dare to contradict me in my delicate condition!! LOL ;D

I'm just repeating what the director said. I thought that Frankie survived too until Rural set me straight. Poor Frankie. Sorry Dani, and in such a delicate condition too LOL!!

sorry, just quickly chiming in about Frankie's death - I think even absent the commentary by the director, we are supposed to see that he died because it's foreshadowed at the beginning when we see the flash of the ending. Frankie is being beaten while the voiceover tells us that "sometimes, for some people, things don't work out as they might have hoped". As viewers, we hope (against all odds) that we will get to the end of this movie and discover that it has a happy ending...that Frankie lives. But we've already been told from the start, that that isn't going to happen.
That's just my take.

Good point, Kaz. I think to do the topic, and the film itself, justice Frankie had to die. Both the topic and film are, complicated and dark. A Hollywood happy ending wouldn't have allowed the tragedy of the films message to resonate so with viewers.

Well, things don't work out as they might have hoped.... to be beaten nearly to death is not a good thing!! Ok, Kaz, even you are looking for trouble!! You all say that on purpose then!!! LOL

FYI for quotes I like this one Megan: Whats the glue for? Cooper: Ever wondered why the best thing that superglue sticks together is your fingers? Forget your grandmas china cups - this stuff was developed for the Vietnam war to patch up broken Soldiers ever wondered if that was true I found this the other day www.straightdope.com/columns/read/2187/was-super-glue-invented-to-seal-battle-wounds-in-vietnam

Oooh, thanks Leanne. That's good to know.
My favorite line is when Cooper asks the soldier who just threw up if he's ok. The guys says, "I could go for some kabobs". LOL

Finding time to watch the movie, that's the hard part! But I probably know the answer to the first question without ever having seen the movie. (Why do I remember everything I ever read in interviews? Probably should put my brain to work in a more useful way ;D )
