and here we go!!! S9 spoilers !! Ask Ausiello Question: Any scoop on Grey’s Anatomy? Will the premiere pick up right where they left off (the doctors still stranded), or will they do a time jump? Will Meredith and Derek stay in Seattle? — Barbara Ausiello: No clue, but we can tell you that Shonda Rhimes is staffing up in the wake of last season’s literal killing spree. Two of the new hires: Dr. Parker, a top-of-his-game physician in his 40s or 50s, and Dr. Mel Barnett, who’s slightly younger. Seattle Grace is also looking for two medical professionals, a man and a woman, who are “smart” and “not Hollywood handsome/pretty.” Finally, Mister Scooch has a shot! tvline.com/2012/07/10/greys-anatomy-spoilers-parenthood-vampire-diaries/

www.tvguide.com/News/Mega-Buzz-Hawaii-Five0-Greys-Castle-Spoilers-1049794.aspxPlease tell me you have something, anything on Grey's Anatomy! — Jackie NATALIE: Among the new castings for the season premiere — besides two new docs, a couple of medical professionals and a new resident — are two flight attendants. Either Shonda Rhimes really wants to make the fans suffer with a flashback to the actual crash, or the Stranded Six Five will have to get back on the horse plane to return to Seattle. Where's Dr. Perkins when you need him?

Gaius Charles Joins 'Grey's Anatomy'
From Dillon to Seattle Grace, "Friday Night Lights" alum Gaius Charles will appear in Season 9 of "Grey's Anatomy" as a young doctor, but the details of his character are still under wraps, according to TVLine.
In addition to "FNL," Charles' other TV credits include "Necessary Roughness," "NCIS," "Pan Am" and "Law & Order: SVU."
When we last saw the doctors at Seattle Grace in the shocking "Grey's Anatomy" Season 8 finale, Mark (Eric Dane), Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Derek (Patrick Dempsey), Christina (Sandra Oh) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) were in a terrible state after a plane crash killed Lexie (Chyler Leigh) and left the others stranded and wounded in the woods. Time will tell how Charles and the rest of the cast will fare in "Grey's Anatomy" Season 9.

Grey's Anatomy Season 9 Speculation: What Will Happen to Owen? Photo Credit: Randy Holmes/ ABC Grey's Anatomy Season 8 ended with most characters' fates up in the air. However, one doc who we know is safe, sound, and planning on staying at Seattle Grace-Mercy West is Owen (Kevin McKidd). But that doesn't mean we're not interested in thinking about what will happen to Seattle Grace-Mercy West's newest Chief. So here are some things we're hoping to see from Owen during Season 9. More Owen/Cristina … but slowly: Kevin McKidd thinks Owen and Cristina (Sandra Oh) are destined to reunite, and we're inclined to agree that the show is headed that route. However, so much of Season 8 focused on the destruction of their marriage that we'd hate to see it all patched up quickly. We hope Owen and Cristina do spend some time apart before inevitable winding up back in each others' arms. And if/when they do get back together, we hope they don't gloss over the issues still inherent in their relationships. Owen dealing with disaster: It's what he's good at. We really hope we'll get to see Owen in his element more next season. Most notably, if the premiere picks up right where the finale lets off, we hope Owen's skills will be put to good use trying to rescue the docs in the crash. More Owen and Derek: Owen and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) started a bit of a bromance at the beginning of Season 8, but the Owen/Cristina drama ended up interrupting that. We'd love to see it return, especially because Owen will need a friend after Teddy's (Kim Raver) departure. Dealing without Teddy: Speaking of Teddy, we do hope the loss of his best friend will take a toll on Owen. It wouldn't be realistic for him not to miss her. Chief drama: With so many of the docs injured or leaving, we expect to see Seattle Grace-Mercy West struggle as a hospital, and Owen, as Chief of Surgery, should be deeply involved with that drama. What do you want for Owen next season? Let us know in the comments below! Miss Grey’s? Us too. Luckily the show will return to Thursdays at 9 p.m. with all-new episodes in the fall on ABC. www.wetpaint.com/greys-anatomy/articles/greys-anatomy-season-9-speculation-what-will-happen-to-owen

Grey's Anatomy Exclusive: Eric Dane Checks Out! Grey’s Anatomy boss Shonda Rhimes hinted that more departures could be on the horizon following last May’s deadly cliffhanger — and she wasn’t kidding. Eric Dane, whose Dr. Mark Sloan looked on in horror as his soul mate Lexie (Chyler Leigh) passed away from her own injuries suffered in the plane crash, has decided to leave the ABC medical drama after six years, to pursue other opportunities. However, Grey’s fans have not yet seen the very last of him. “I am extremely grateful to everyone at Grey’s, ABC and Shondaland for the experience and memories I have had over the course of this run,” Dane tells TVLine exclusively. “It has been wonderful to work alongside and learn from a creative force such as Shonda Rhimes.” In a statement to TVLine, Rhimes called McSteamy “one of the most beloved characters on Grey’s Anatomy.” She added that Dane “did not come to this decision lightly, but after much consideration and conversations, he and I have decided that this is the right time for his storyline to end. “We’re a big family here at Grey’s with a long history together and Eric will always remain an important part of our famil,” Rhimes continued. “I wish him the best and I look forward to watching him as he continues to steam up the big and small screen.” Dane’s Grey’s doc made quite a memorable entrance at the tail end of the show’s second season — punctuated by his emergence from Addison’s (Kate Walsh) steamy hotel bathroom, clad in nothing but a strategically placed towel. The sequence became one of the season’s biggest watercooler moments and led the hottie plastic surgeon to be dubbed “McSteamy.” It also prompted Rhimes to bring him back the following season as a full-time series regular. Mark was eventually sprung from the Addison-Derek-Meredith kerfuffle and began an on-again-off-again romance with Lexie — a relationship that ended tragically in last May’s Season 8 finale. Unlike Lexie, Mark will (presumably) survive the crash. According to a Grey’s insider, Dane — whose alter ego suffered a cardiac arrest of sorts in the finale, but was saved by a quick-thinking Cristina — will be back for several episodes in order to ensure he gets a proper farewell. Dane’s departure, coupled with Leigh’s and Kim Raver’s (Teddy), means Grey’s will enter its ninth season this fall with three fewer series regulars. (The rest of the main cast are expected to stay put for at least two more years.) To fill the void, the show has hired Friday Night Lights‘ grad Gaius Charles and True Blood‘s Camilla Luddington as new docs. Grey’s Anatomy‘s ninth season kicks off Thursday, Sept. 27. tvline.com/2012/07/26/grey-anatomy-eric-dane-leaving/

(from Sandra Oh news) Grey's Anatomy: Cristina Yang In Winter Wonderland The hiatus is over for the Grey's cast and crew who are currently filming new episodes of the show, and yesterday Sandra Oh was shooting scenes for the season premiere on a snowy set (pictured below). Somebody watched one of the scenes being filmed and wrote about it, so read more below to find out where Cristina Yang ends up in the new season: It's pretty funny to see how they turned our Southern California circle drive into a Minnesota circle drive! They sprayed something on the leaves of the trees white and they have rolled up bolts of cotton (sprayed with water) along the curb to make it look like melted snow! The production assistant has been very sweet and patient with us lookey loos and let me and a few others watch them film a scene with Sandra Oh. I was "this close" to her, LOL. www.sandraohnews.com/2012/07/greys-anatomy-season-9-cristina-yang-snowy-set.html

Grey's Anatomy's Shonda Rhimes Talks Season 9: Time Jumps, New Locations and New Docs! The ABC medical drama, which has been set at Seattle Grace since the show's first season, will split its time between two locations in Season 9. The harrowing and tragic season finale saw the Stranded Six — Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Derek (Patrick Dempsey), Cristina (Sandra Oh), Mark (Eric Dane), Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) and Lexie (Chyler Leigh) — crash-land in the mountains, with Lexie subsequently succumbing to her injuries. (Apparently, she might not be the only one to die since Eric Dane is also exiting the series sometime next season). Even though there seemed to be no hope on the horizon in the closing moments of the finale, the doctors will eventually get rescued since the Season 9 premiere will jump ahead two to three months, executive producer Shonda Rhimes tells TVGuide.com. But that doesn't mean we won't see what transpired in those mountains. Get the scoop from Rhimes below, including Derek's new troubles, Bailey's wedding (!) and Calzona's fate: You left the doctors in the woods without rescue! Will there be a time jump next season or are you picking up right where you left off?Shonda Rhimes: We're doing something really interesting that we've never really done before. As you know, I try to reinvent every season. When we start the season, we're two to three months in the future and we're well settled into the year for these doctors. We're watching them do what they're going to do. They're located where they're going to be located, things are happening. You see the aftermath of what happened. You're left with some questions as to how this happened and "Why is this the way it is?" and "Why is that the way it is?" Then, in the second episode of the season, we start back in the woods. We go from there and you see what happens. Then ensuing episodes, you're back to regular time and we're back on our timeline. What can you talk about in regards to the structure of this season? At the end of last season, the doctors planned to take jobs elsewhere, so are we seeing a show that's just set at Seattle Grace or are we seeing a show that is set at many hospitals?Rhimes: We're seeing a show set at Seattle Grace and someplace else. What's interesting to me is that I didn't want us to feel like you're coming back and magically everyone is back home. You understand why some people stayed and why some people left. There are some very clear reasons what happened. It's very challenging playing an entirely separate story line in another location. Can you tell us where this location is?Rhimes: I don't want to say where the location is because that would be too spoilery. It's a hospital. When we come back at the beginning of the season, some of our doctors are in different locations, more than one of them, and some of our doctors are preparing to leave for different locations. We've seen the doctors deal with PTSD after the shooting. How will this be different from what we saw before?Rhimes: What's interesting to me about what we're doing this time is that it's not that we've traumatized them by having a plane crash like when they were shot. There are real physical aftereffects for all of our people that they're dealing with. More importantly, we're not coming back to a bunch of traumatized people, though flying is pretty much out of the question for any of them. I would say Meredith is an ultimate survivor. She's been through the shooting, and now she's been through the plane crash. Their attitudes are very different. They already have the coping mechanisms in place, so it's just a very different attitude. Still, Meredith is dealing with the loss of her sister Lexie. How has Meredith changed?Rhimes: You're going to find a very different person. We really talked about it a lot and really worked to figure out what she would be like when we came back to her. As importantly, they've gone from being residents to being Attendings. Now they're in charge. They're absolutely in charge of their own destinies and in charge of their own people. They're now on a footing with all these doctors who they used to work under so you're watching what that means for them, all of them. Surgeons need their hands! We saw Derek severely injure his hand in the accident. How will we see him dealing with that?Rhimes: Any of the people we saw injured are not going to be A-OK when we come back, that's not what we're doing. What's interesting for me is we really planned the idea that we're going to watch what happens to a doctor who can temporarily no longer perform surgery...When Burke injured his hand, it was very much about keeping it a secret. It's not about that. This is really, very clearly who you blame when your hand is injured like this. And what do you do and how do you overcome this? Derek is being pretty heroic about it, which is interesting. What can you tell us about Cristina's journey next season? Are she and Owen (Kevin McKidd) really over or are there attempts to reconcile?Rhimes: I've dubbed this the season of romance purposefully. I feel like one of the things we're going to be seeing this season is Cristina and Owen finding their way back to each other. It's not going to be easy and it's not going to be quick, but I think it's going to be really beautiful. I'm happy because I love them, so I'm excited. Will Alex (Justin Chambers) feel any sort of guilt over Arizona taking his place on the plane?
Rhimes: Yes, there is some very dark stuff happening for him in terms of that idea. He's trying not to feel guilty and trying not to feel a sense of responsibility, but he does. You're saying it's the season of romance, so does that mean we'll see more Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona romance? Just hoping Jessica Capshaw is coming back. Rhimes: I don't want to say anything about that yet. The first episode would have to air and then I'm happy to talk about it, but I don't want to say anything yet. What can you tell us about the state of Ben and Bailey's (Chandra Wilson) relationship next season since Jason George is on Mistresses?Rhimes: We're still using Ben. Jason George is still showing up for work. We're very grateful to Mistresses for the loan. They're letting us continue to tell stories about Ben and Bailey. They're having a great deal of fun. A happy Bailey is delightful and very funny. It's interesting because in the finale, we originally shot a scene in which Ben showed up and said, "We're going to City Hall right now and getting married." We played it out, but I cut it from the show because there was something about it that I felt like denied the audience. They're not technically married at this moment, but we'll probably see that happen and really enjoy it. How does April (Sarah Drew) fit into the world of Grey's Anatomy now?Rhimes: You won't see April Kepner bartending at Joe's bar. She has a part to play in the world and there are some surprising moments to show us how that happens. April Kepner goes home. How she comes back is pretty charming and interesting and it happens in the first episode. www.tvguide.com/News/Greys-Anatomy-Shonda-Rhimes-Season9-Spoilers-1050671.aspx

'Grey's Anatomy's' Shonda Rhimes: 'Any Number of People Could Be Departing'The showrunner previews Season 9 and tells THR about the upcoming time jump, story lines outside of Seattle Grace and warns that there may be more death to come when the series returns. [Warning: This story contains spoilers from the upcoming ninth season of ABC's Grey's Anatomy.] Grey's Anatomy will go into its upcoming ninth season down two characters with a third on the way out but that may not be all that's in store when the Shonda Rhimes medical drama returns in September. Following the finale that saw Owen (Kevin McKidd) fire Teddy (Kim Raver) and the deadly plane crash claim Lexie's (Chyler Leigh) life, there's a strong possibility that any number of people could be joining Lexie in the great beyond. Confirming that Derek, Cristina and Meredith will all survive the crash, Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) and Mark's (the departing Eric Dane) days may be numbered showrunner Rhimes hints in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Last seen stranded in the woods with a broken bone protruding through her leg and coughing up blood, Arizona -- along with Cristina (Sandra Oh), Mark, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) -- were left clinging to life without food, water or word of rescue. Mark, meanwhile, was in really bad shape and needed emergency surgery in the wilderness and was even ready to join his dearly departed in the afterlife but (at Arizona's encouragement) continued to fight to survive. THR caught up with Rhimes to preview the ABC medical drama's upcoming ninth season and discuss whether or not Little Grey will have a proper funeral (don't get your hopes up), how Dane's departure will impact those around him and what's next for the rest of Seattle Grace's best and brightest. The Hollywood Reporter: How are you approaching this season? In the past, you've known what the finale was and worked backward but last season because of all the uncertainty, it was split in two.Shonda Rhimes: We know what the finale is and we're working backward from that. It's the usual way we work and we had a lot of fun last season but because we were unsure of a lot of things we were left with building a lot of things and it doesn't matter because we have a finale that's totally separate from what else is happening. Could we see a time jump in the premiere? Not a big one. We're doing something really interesting this year. Our first episode takes place two to three months after we left the finale, so you see the aftermath and where everyone ends up. The second episode jumps back and we're back in the woods, we start the episode back in the woods. To me, it's a very different way of telling the story and you have some questions about why people are the way they are and in the second episode you find out why things are the way they are. Will you continue to play with that format throughout the season? We're not. We don't have big plans to play with it back and forth. Even though we had a plane crash, this isn't Lost (laughs). We wanted to find a way to clearly and interestingly tell the story of who our character and why they are who they are. What's the likelihood we could see additional fatalities or cast member departures? I think that's possible, yes. Could it be one of the five remaining plane crash survivors -- Arizona, Meredith, Cristina, Derek and Mark -- who don't make it?I think any number of people could be departing at this point. That's left open. Considering the way with the finale ended with Alex (Justin Chambers) and Jackson (Jesse Williams) both being accepted to other programs -- and Cristina, if she survives, could we see some of the season take place in other hospitals?Yes, we could absolutely see some of the season take place somewhere else; that was always in the cards for us -- the idea that somebody would be somewhere else and we would see things play out that way. When we start the season, there are some doctors who are not at Seattle Grace and we will come to understand what that means as time goes on. Might that be something that continues on for the length of the series?I don't know that it's going to be the length of the series; we're going to do it for as long as it feels interesting to us for as long as we have story to tell in the way that we need to tell it. At the end of every season, I always say let's leave it on the table for next season and part of the reason for next season is what happens if a doctor is someplace else and what that means for our story and how that works. Will there be a funeral for Lexie? That was heartbreaking. I could have written for Chyler for the rest of my life; that was the hardest thing we did last year. We're not doing funerals this season, that's not part of the language of what we're trying to do this season. It's not about a funeral at all. You mention funerals -- might there be a need for more than one? There could be, but we're not doing them even if there were. How will Mark's upcoming departure be handled?I'm really proud of the way we're handing his exit. I really wanted and fought for that character to be given their due. I didn't want to come back to this season and say, "Mark Sloane is gone." I really wanted to give that character his due and we came up with a beautiful and creative way to showcase that and that goodbye. How will his departure impact Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona and their shared family with him?His departure impacts everybody. Mark is a teacher to Jackson, he's best friends with Derek, he's Callie's best friend, he's Sofia's father. It's going to be a big loss for everyone and I don't want to minimize that. What shape will Meredith, Cristina and Derek be in mentally and emotionally when the season picks up?It's surprising. Derek is coping with the loss of the use of his hand in surgery and what that might mean for him. I love the heroic way he deals with it, which is: Who are you if you're not the guy who operates. We really play with that and show what that means for him as a person. Meredith and Cristina are coping in ways that are both expected and unexpected for those characters. It sounds like all three will survive the crash.I can confirm to you that Meredith, Cristina and Derek survive. Which leaves Arizona, who wasn't in great shape in the season finale. What's her heath status like when the season picks up?I don't know that I want to talk about Arizona. Arizona has a huge following in the LGBT community and you and Grey's have continued to get recognition from GLAAD. Any comment on the notion that Arizona could be leaving?I was honored to receive two awards from GLAAD this year and I feel like that character is iconic to me at this point. The way people respond to that character and that relationship, there's something really beautiful about that. We don't make decisions lightly and I certainly don't make these decisions lightly. I really try to stick to what's best for story and what's best for the show and it's really sometimes difficult to do that but it's also sometimes really gratifying to that. We're doing what feels completely right and in line with where we've been and where we're going. How is Arizona's fate going to impact Callie? It's going to impact her hugely. We're going to spend a lot of time with Callie this season, there's a lot of story to be told there. Cristina mentions during the finale that she's experiencing PTSD, is that something you're going to explore this season?Cristina has been experiencing PTSD since the shooting and trying to cope with that. One of the things I love is that she and Owen experience PTSD at different times, but yes, we're going to really follow that. Not in the typical way that you'd think, although none of them are going to have an easy time getting on a plane again. No one is flying again anytime soon. We're watching her cope in the best way she knows how. How will Lexie's death impact Meredith? Could we potentially see the return of dark and twisty Meredith from early Grey's Anatomy? You're going to be surprised at the Meredith you see. I think there's a lot of growth there for the girl who drowned, put her hand on a bomb in a body cavity, the girl whose husband was shot in front of her. She's grown in a number of ways and the way that she's coping with the plane crash is very different from the Meredith you would have seen coping with the shooting and the Meredith who was coping with the bomb guy exploding -- she's a different person at this point. Will Cristina still be there for her or will she be one of those who explore life outside of Seattle as she mentioned in the finale? You'll have to wait and see. Could we see Jeff Perry return as Meredith's father?I've gone back and forth with that. We lost the chance to cross over the moment that Jeff Perry became both Meredith's father became Cyrus [on Rhimes' Scandal]. There's something very strange about watching Jeff Perry play Meredith's father at 9 p.m. then at 10 p.m. watch him play Cyrus. How will Owen respond to his role in the crash after he held his calls in the finale and potentially delayed their rescue?I don't think there's any guilt there. We're not playing with the idea that he did a terrible thing not taking his calls that day, that's not really an issue for us. What kind of Seattle Grace will the docs be returning to, clearly it will be a bit depleted with a few people moving on.It's going to be a very interesting place. We've been calling this season the season of romance and talking about playing up the romance of surgery and the romance between characters and the romance of friendships and really mining that as much as we can so it's not going to be a dark season. What's next for April (Sarah Drew) now that she doesn't have a job? When we come back to April, she's back home on the farm so how she gets back to us at the hospital is going to be a very interesting journey. Will the Chief (James Pickens Jr.) and Adele's story continue to be explored? We love Loretta Devine, so anytime we can get her we are thrilled. So yes. We have a really beautiful and painful journey that we want to really have a chance to watch and see. You've added a couple recurring characters in Camilla Luddington and Gaius Charles. Will they be doctors at Seattle Grace or elsewhere?People keep asking me about these guest stars. We didn't add series regulars, these are guest stars who are coming on to be guest stars. I prefer not to discuss guest stars at this time. What are you looking forward to seeing in Season 9? Do you think Arizona's time is up? Hit the comments with your thoughts. Grey's Anatomy returns Thursday, Sept. 27 at 9 p.m. on ABC. Email: Lesley.Goldberg@thr.com; Twitter: @snoodit www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/greys-anatomys-shonda-rhimes-season-9-spoilers-355484

No mention of Cristina and Owen, but interesting none-the-less: Grey's Anatomy' boss Shonda Rhimes explains Eric Dane's exit, teases unique season opener by Sandra Gonzalez Eric Dane’s recently announced exit from Grey’s Anatomy may have caught fans by surprise, but creator Shonda Rhimes wasn’t quite as blindsided. “It was a thing that Eric had been thinking about for a while, but it felt like the right time to him” she tells EW. “I love Eric, and Eric and I have been working together for a very long time, so it was bittersweet. I’m happy he’s going to go on and do other things, but I’m really sad to not be able to work with him every day.” Creatively, the timing was also right. After last season’s plane crash, which claimed the life of Lexi Grey (Chyler Leigh), many fates — including that of Dane’s character Mark Sloane — were left up in the air. And though Dane is slated to return for two episodes in the upcoming ninth season, Rhimes says his imminent appearance should not necessarily be considered a nod to his fate on the show, especially in light of the unique format of the season’s first episodes. “When we start the season, we are ahead enough in time where we see the outcome of lots of things. And in the second episode of the season, there’s rewind — we go backwards — to where they’re still in the forest,” she shares. “So you see what happened and in the next episode, you see how we get there. That was a really great experiment for us, and we think it turned out really really well.” This approach, she says, allowed them to tackle the crash aftermath in a way that felt different from what fans saw after the equally traumatizing hospital shooting a few seasons ago. Get more EW: Subscribe to the magazine for only 33¢ an issue! The third episode will resume the timeline seen in the premiere, and looking ahead, she says she’s planning on using Dane’s absence to bring Justin Chambers and Jesse Williams to the forefront in a big way. “The loss of ‘McSteamy’ [Dane] is going to leave a giant hole in our world in terms of — for lack of a better phrase — man whore-ness. I’ve told the actors who play Alex and Jackson [Chambers and Williams] that we need some leading men here. We need to add to that pool, and they’re going to step up,” she says. “I think the breed of what Eric Dane did can never be replaced, but I do think there’s some room for some men at the hospital to spread their wings. We haven’t seen that in a while.” That includes, she adds, a possible love for Alex (“I’m looking for Alex to find his person”) and exploring the dynamic between Jackson and newly devirginized April (Sarah Drew). “I think it’s going to be funny, sexy, and good,” she says. insidetv.ew.com/2012/07/28/greys-anatomy-shonda-rhimes-eric-dane-season-9/

Grey's Anatomy Exclusive: Debbie Allen to Direct Again in Season 9
Debbie Allen is returning to Grey's Anatomy! Allen, who portrays Jackson Avery's (Jesse Williams) mother Catherine on the ABC medical series, will be directing the third episode of the upcoming season, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively. The ninth season picks up two to three months after the Stranded Six Five (RIP Lexie!) were rescued after a plane crash. "You see the aftermath of what happened," executive producer Shonda Rhimes recently told us. "You're left with some questions as to how this happened and 'Why is this the way it is?' and 'Why is that the way it is?'"
The second episode will jump back in time to answer those questions, while the Allen-directed episode will jump back to the present timeline, which will find some doctors outside of Seattle Grace with new jobs. This is Allen's fifth time stepping behind the camera on Grey's Anatomy. There's no word on whether Catherine Avery, who was last seen having a fling with Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) will also appear in the episode.

Grey's Anatomy: Will Arizona Robbins and Mark Sloan Die? Aug 8, 2012 08:28 PM ET by Natalie Abrams It's the question of the fall season: Will Arizona Robbins and Mark Sloan die on Grey's Anatomy? The fates of the remaining stranded survivors — Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Derek (Patrick Dempsey), Cristina (Sandra Oh), Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) and Mark (Eric Dane) — were uncertain at the end of the Season 8 finale. But when TVGuide.com recently spoke with executive producer Shonda Rhimes, she inadvertently confirmed that Meredith, Derek and Cristina would survive when she gave up some information on how they'll be dealing with the aftermath of the crash next season. But what about Mark and Arizona? We'll find out their fates within the first two episodes, the first of which jumps ahead two to three months after the crash, while the second flashes back to see what happened when they were rescued. For Dane, we already know he's leaving the series, but the question is whether it will be on his own two feet or in a body bag. With Capshaw, it's a question of whether she'll even be back since everyone is keeping mum about her character. While we wait until the season premiere to get the dish, we've decided to list the reasons why Arizona and Mark could die — or not! Why Arizona will die: She didn't fare well in the plane crash, with the bone in her leg protruding from the skin. Plus, she was last seen coughing up blood. Another bad sign? Rhimes declined to comment on whether Arizona would return. "I don't want to say anything about that yet," she recently told us. "The first episode would have to air, and then I'm happy to talk about it, but I don't want to say anything yet." Why Arizona won't die: Arizona's story is not finished by any means. Sure, Arizona and Callie (Sara Ramirez) were featured heavily in the seventh season (See: Car crash, baby and wedding), but Season 8 saw a decrease in their story line as they took a backseat to other characters. Yes, we realize it's called Grey's Anatomy, but we love these two just as much as the central doc. Plus: Rhimes called the upcoming year the season of romance, and what better romantic story to tell than of one which was nearly fatal? (And if Mark dies after Lexie's horrific death, will Rhimes really also kill off Arizona? Come on! She's not that evil... we hope.) Why Mark will die: Considering Dane is leaving the series, he's the more obvious candidate to meet his maker. He was worse off after the crash, nearly dying in the woods before Cristina saved him. Plus, back when we guessed correctly who would die in the season finale, we noted that Mark is only interesting when he's in a relationship with Lexie. Now that she's dead, wouldn't the only fitting story to tell be that of Mark and Lexie reuniting — off screen, of course — in the afterlife, like he hinted in the finale? Also, the photos that Dempsey tweeted showing Dane in a hospital bed, which can also be seen down below, could alone make the case that Mark will die. But another compelling reason he'll die is that Mark has been all too happy to be a father, so he wouldn't leave Seattle Grace by choice, since that would mean having to leave baby Sofia behind. Why Mark won't die: Let's be real: it just seems all too likely he's going to die. Our argument for why he will is sound, and honestly, we really can't think of a good reason why he won't, so if you've got one — other than you just don't want him to — use the comments to sound off. www.tvguide.com/News/Greys-Anatomy-Capshaw-Dane-Death-1051811.aspx

Grey's Anatomy ended its eighth season with Arizona taking Alex's spot on the plane, and considering what has happened to Arizona—things aren't looking good for her with her injuries—it seems likely Alex could be feeling some guilt when season 9 begins. What else is coming his way? Grey's Season 9 Spoilers According to TV Guide, Shonda Rhimes has revealed that Alex is "a dog sleeping around" when the new season begins, but it is possible that could change, as she went on to say, "This is the season I want to see Alex find true love—his person to land with." Alex does deserve some love, especially after everything he's been through. Will Alex perhaps find someone new who could be someone around for the long run in his life? Is it possible he could even get married again at some point? Things haven't been going his way romance-wise for a long time, going back to Izzie, but maybe season 9 is going to be his year. Also potentially coming up in Grey's Anatomy season 9 is a look at Alex's "dark childhood and finally [introducing] his abusive, drug-addict father." It does seem about time for them to explore that, but how will they introduce the storyline? Could Alex's father come in as a patient? Speaking of, is Alex going to be staying at Seattle Grace now? It seems that way, and it's not hard to imagine that happening. What do you think of the latest Grey's Anatomy season 9 spoilers? entertainment.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474981565464

Between the fate of Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) and the title of Season 9, Episode 1: “Going, Going, Gone,” things aren’t exactly looking up for the docs on Grey's Anatomy, especially if the title of the episode isn’t even referring to the departure of Seattle’s McSteamiest doc. Read spoilers at your own risk! For more on Wetpaint Entertainment's philosophy on spoilers, click here. TVLine recently hinted that the episode title might have "less to do with death and more to do with… something else." We’re not sure what TVLine knows, but it must be big. If “Going, Going, Gone” doesn’t refer to the departure of Mark, could someone (or something) else be leaving the show? It’s not an unreasonable theory. Arizona's (Jessica Capshaw) fate has been one of the most debated topics for Season 9. Could Arizona lose her leg? We have to admit: It didn’t look good in the Season 8 finale (Season 8, Episode 24, "Flight"). Then again, neither did Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) hand. Could we have seen the last of McDreamy as a surgeon? Or maybe the title refers to the departure of some of the residents of Seattle Grace-Mercy West. Shonda Rhimes has said that some characters may in fact leave the hospital, but perhaps they leave a little earlier than we expected. But what if the title refers to none of those things? We know that Episode 1 starts a few months after the accident, so maybe the thing that’s gone isn’t physical. Maybe it’s the exit of an era at the hospital. Losing Mark and Lexie (Chyler Leigh) will surely have an effect on the atmosphere and the dynamics of the show. More generally, could we be seeing a new Seattle Grace-Mercy West? As long as there isn’t another merger, we think we can handle the change. What do you guys think? Who or what is leaving the show in its first hour back? Grey’s Anatomy Season 9 will premiere on Thursday, September 27 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. www.wetpaint.com/greys-anatomy/articles/greys-anatomy-season-9-spoiler-what-or-who-is-going-going-gone
