Seattle does not *normally* get snow. Like most of the rest of the West Coast -- an inch of snow and everyone panics and the city virtually shuts down. As a former Seattle resident, that whole icicle scene had me hooting in derision. Seattle almost *never* sees the northern lights and there's no romantic lighthouse in a park to view the non-visible northern lights from, as referenced in Owen's romantic plans for their first date back in Season 5... ::grin:: And there certainly isn't geology that would allow for a sinkhole under downtown Seattle! (Or at least there wasn't back in my time there... I lived in Seattle back when Pearl Jam and Soundgarten were neighborhood bands, so maybe today you can handwave the sinkhole as being due to some construction issues from a new mass transit system... ) However... this is Shondaworld GA lives in! In Shondaworld, amazing and crazy-making things happen! Hey! Waving to a former Seattleite I live here ( well, city nearby, across the lake ) and everything you said is true Last weekend due to a solar storm was a very small chance that the northern lights were visible and when they mentioned it all I could think was " where is Owen when I need it." lol

Once Kevin mentioned someone would be leaving I must say I thought Eric Dane... so I wasnt to surprised however he still had a good story to continue with the girls and his baby so in that aspect its a shame.
Dane in himself has looked rather drawn this past season hope all is good with him

It has been confirmed by an extra on set that Sandra was filming in the fake snow scene and it is a scene from Cristina´s new place, the Mayo clinic. I can't decide if I am happy that they stuck to Cristina's character and had her go to Mayo, or if I am angry that they pushed C/O even further apart. I feel like with the time jump, I either want to see none...or one that puts them at the end of their fellowships. My pure speculation as to why everyone is on a plane: Meredith and Alex (and Owen of coarse) are going to visit Cristina who won some great honor. Owen is said to be looking nervous on the plane...wonder if she doesn't know that he is coming. Hey...like I said PURE speculation. Sad to see Eric Dane go. Really liked him. But like Leanne, I sorta figured. I think he had a bout with skin cancer last year.

Also sad to hear about Eric Dane leaving. Wanted the cast smaller but not at the expense of the long time stars and Kevin. Would love the focus to really be C/O, M/D and Alex this season with bits of C/A and J/A along with Bailey and old chief. Another idea which is probably unlikely since they kinda did this is S8 is a what- if scenario with the stranded (or at least Mer/Cristina) dreaming what life would have been like if the plane had not crashed. While this happens, the rescue is underway. Then by the end of the hour, they are rescued. This would explain Owen flying to meet them but not why Meredith is flying with Alex somewhere. Don't think they are on same flight because the actress who tweeted info just mentioned working with Kevin and watching JC/EP in their scene. Until we get the epi description and pics, it's fun guessing all the possibilities. Look forward to reading more.

Not sure if anyone has seen this but there may be some hope for Cristina and Owen according to Shonda What can you tell us about Cristina's journey next season? Are she and Owen really over or are there attempts to reconcile? Rhimes: I've dubbed this the season of romance purposefully. I feel like one of the things we're going to be seeing this season is Cristina and Owen finding their way back to each other. It's not going to be easy and it's not going to be quick, but I think it's going to be really beautiful. I'm happy because I love them, so I'm excited. www.tvguide.com/News/Greys-Anatomy-Shonda-Rhimes-Season9-Spoilers-1050671.aspxSo does that give folks hope or doubt?? not sure what to think about all of this really

Although I don't, as a matter of principle, trust anything Shonda says, I am feeling cautiously optimistic. That is PARTLY because she said that Cristina and Owen's story arc this season is about them finding their way back to each other (which, I know, means I'm believing Shonda, which contradicts what I said before). It is also PARTLY because of what she DIDN'T say, in one of her interviews about Eric Dane's departure. She talked about how other male actors will have to set up to fill the "man-whore" gap left by Mark leaving. And the two actors she mentioned were Justin Chambers and Jesse Williams. She left Kevin out - - not because she doesn't think he is sexy (I think it is very clear that she does think that), but IMO because she considers him to be part of one of her established couples: Mer/Der, Callie/Arizona and C/O. IMO, Owen is still, in Shonda's mind, Cristina's guy.
I'm not concerned about the "fact" (it hasn't really been confirmed, but the spoilers point that way) that the season starts with Cristina at the Mayo Clinic. Whoever said earlier in this thread that Shonda was going to DRAG . . . IT . . . OUT (referring to a reconciliation between Cristina and Owen) should get a prize. If Cristina and Owen are in the same hospital, Shonda either has to bring them back together quickly OR write some stupid storyline that ignores or destroys the chemistry between them (further damaging the love story she seems to want to resurrect) OR subject us to the same longing looks and angst we had to put up with in the last few episodes of last season. She has to know we're all tired of that last option - - probably she, Kevin and Sandra are tired of it as well. So she puts half a country between them as a way to delay their reunion. It could be worse!
Since we now know that 9.01 takes place about 2-3 months after the plane crash, and 9.02 flashes back to how they were rescued, these are my current speculations:
1. There will be NO C/O scene in 9.01, probably not even a split screen phone call. We'll find out that Cristina is in Minnesota; we'll even see her there. But we won't find out the circumstances under which she left (whether she and Owen decided to separate, are trying a long distance marriage, are filing for divorce, or anything else) until either the very end of the episode or, more likely, during the flashback scenes in 9.02. I was encouraged to see, in that set picture tweeted by one of the GA producers, that Owen is apparently still wearing his wedding ring in 9.01. But I don't expect any definite information about the state of the relationship until 9.02.
2. Mark will die, maybe in the flashback episode (so he won't appear at all in 9.01); maybe at the end of 9.01, then we'll see him in the flashback episode anyway. That gives Eric Dane "a couple" of episodes to close out his character.
3. Arizona will live, but be badly and perhaps permanently impaired. That will give the Callie/Arizona story line plenty of drama but will also give Jessica Capshaw (who of course just had a baby) a lighter acting load at the beginning of the season.
4. Derek and Meredith's story will be largely about Derek learning to live with the disability of not having full use of his hand, and not being able to operate. It would be an interesting twist if Owen was helpful to Derek, and particularly to Meredith, as Derek goes through this crisis. Shonda likes to play with her characters - - when Cristina was recovering from PTSD, it was Derek (who Cristina always disliked and who always resented her) that Shonda had help her through it. I think Shonda may turn the tables on the past Meredith/Owen tension by having the two of them work together to help Derek, and bond through the experience.
5. There will be an "event" that brings Cristina back to Seattle. I wouldn't put it past Shonda to make that "event" something to do with Meredith/Derek/Zola, but even if that brings her back to Seattle temporarily, I think (I hope) she will eventually decide to stay because of Owen NOT because of her co-dependent BFF relationship with Meredith. All that "Owen is my person" stuff last season had to mean something - - I'm hoping it was a sign that Cristina is learning to recognize that being a wife and a partner is different from and doesn't always have to come second to being a friend.
JMHO.

Owen can still wear his ring even if they are divorced. Would Cristina leave for Mayo and send him divorce papers at the end of 902? Shonda scares me. If they are divorced in 901 , then the whole romance can make sense like they have to fall in love with each other again. "We've been calling this season the season of romance and talking about playing up the romance of surgery and the romance between characters and the romance of friendships and really mining that as much as we can so it's not going to be a dark season." The romance of surgery? In my wildest dreams I can´t imagine what she means. Is she tired of the dark and twisted? I can´t believe it. I know, too well, that Shonda has given us lots of reasons in the past to be uneasy about the future. But I don't think we've been hearing anything lately that should make us depressed about the upcoming session - - not yet, anyway! Actually, in my experience, divorced people really do take their wedding rings off fairly quickly; it's more typical for a person whose spouse has died to keep wearing a ring for emotional or sentimental reasons. But anyway, I really don't think there is any real likelihood that Cristina and Owen are divorced or have taken steps toward a divorce at the beginning of Season 9. First, divorces take longer than that and we've only been told about a 2 month time jump. Second, it would be more "tearing down" of the relationship, and I don't think that's the arc they're planning for this year. I think the plan is to see them rebuild, although I expect that rebuilding will happen more slowly and less directly than most of us would like. I can imagine what Shonda means by the "romance of surgery." That's been one of the themes of Grey's from the beginning - - that surgeons are people who are passionate and deeply involved in what they do. Cristina needs to find a way to incorporate both her "love" of surgery and her "love" of Owen into her life in a healthy way. Meredith seems to have done that - - she loves her work AND her husband and child. We should be pleased to read that Shonda is not planning a "dark" season. We've had plenty of darkness already, and I'm sure there will be things we won't like about Season 9. But why be so down on things now, when the advance indications (for C/O fans at least) are really not bad at all? We have time to get depressed when and if things start to go badly for C/O - - I'd rather maintain a more positive view for now, while I still can!

OK so...after the Shonda interviews and the KMK chat I am fairly confident that they will be together. Let us just pause for a second and smile. Now, I do think that Cristina will spend a good amount of time in MN. I only hope, and I have said this before, that she comes back for Owen and Owen alone. Future spec: We know that Shonda is very supportive of adoption. Do you think C/O will ever explore this route? Perhaps an older child who lost their parents at a young age. Someone Cristina would become attached to? I know...getting ahead of things. But it's all in good fun! Hi mesilla - I missed the chat. What did Kevin say that gave you the impression that they would be together, and/or that Cristina would spend a lot of time in Minnesota?

Hi mesilla - I missed the chat. What did Kevin say that gave you the impression that they would be together, and/or that Cristina would spend a lot of time in Minnesota? Hi hopew! I missed most of it too, one member took screen caps and posted them on twitter, thats how I know. Also, Millie sent me the highlights of the chat! Be happy to forward them to you if you PM me your email! He said he truly feels in his heart that CO will find their way back to each other. And that there may be happy tears for us. I guess there was something that made us know that it would not happen in 901 or 902, but between that and SR interview, I am optimistic.

I think the reunion might happen in the finale, I don´t think it will happen sooner. If we take last year, the writers spent the whole season to dissolve their marriage completely. I don´t know, but what I don´t like one way or the other is that only Owen should fight, not both of them. She should have told him he is her person before leaving. However, it could still happen, in 902 while she is treated in hospital. As PD tweeted the pictures, it seems that the injured ones , all of them are back in hospital in Seattle. I def see why you are thinking they won't reunite until the finale, but I think it will be sooner. I think it will be the holidays and of course this is based on nothing but my opinion! Two things that lead me to think that: 1) Sometimes story lines carry from one season to the next (Owen's PTSD, Cristina's PTSD etc...) but they are traditionally wrapped up in the first half of the season. I think this will be the case. 2) Shonda like to remain "True to Life". The dissolving of a marriage takes time. LOTS. But, lets be honest...the rebuilding takes time, but the reconciliation can be a 2 minute heartfelt conversation. So I think the first 5 or 6 episodes we will see them apart. After that...I truly think something will start to happen. Cristina will be rescued, and Owen will be overcome with emotion...and we will all cry with him I am sure, but when Cristina chooses to leave I bet it will be "adult" between C/O. What do you think?

What do you think? mesilla - ITA with you. I don't expect the separation to be dragged out all season. And I certainly expect Cristina to be back in Seattle long before that - - Shonda likes her Mer/Cris scenes too much to limit herself to split/screen telephone conversations between them for an entire season. It's also much more inconvenient, and expensive, to be shooting episodes on multiple locations. That's one of the reasons that so many of the episodes take place almost entirely at SGMW, with scenes at other established, already constructed and furnished sets like Mer's house, the firehouse, Callie's apartment, etc. I also think that the rebuilding of the C/O relationship CAN happen long distance - - in fact, for this couple, that may be the best way to do it. We saw them spend most of last season in close physical proximity but still very far apart in other ways. In fact, their physical proximity became an excuse to avoid conversation for a part of the season, when they were using sex as a way to be together while avoiding their real issues. If they are physically separated and want to maintain some contact with each other, they HAVE to learn how to talk to each other. I'm hopeful that is what we will see happen. The fact that Cristina begins the season at Mayo doesn't mean she has decided not to fight for the relationship, or that she doesn't decide to do that later, after realizing that getting everything she thought she wanted as a surgeon doesn't satisfy her if Owen isn't there to share it with her.

I hope that you are right! I really hope that they can rebuild long distance. If she were to leave him again after he asks her to stay...I think that that would be too much for viewers. UNLESS we already know that there is still hope. I wonder if this was one of the reasons that we see the rescue sequence out of order. 1st Episode- Cristina at Mayo, Owen visiting her - whether planned or a surprise visit, no matter. 2nd Episode- Flashback to rescue, Cristina leaving Owen. Again. BUT in this sequence, we already know that they will see each other again. So it is far less sad/hopeless for us as fans. I dunno, I'm stretching. I am slightly embarrassed by how in depth I think about this character pairing! But I can't help it. Just think if I put this my analysis and critical thinking into use in other parts of my life...

As you speculated , something will start to happen... Another catastrophic event in Seattle? What will Shonda come up with this time? Maybe Owen will be involved in an accident and be injured and Cristina comes to see him... Well, they already had a boat sink, a plane crash - NO 2 planes crashes, a sinkhole, train crash, roof collapse, an isolated shooting, a mass shooting, and of course...getting hit by a bus. If they do this...I really hope they try to go for believable and not reinvent a crisis. Perhaps he needs her for a death in the family, or support for his PTSD returning. Or maybe she needs him...maybe something will happen to her and she is all alone, but he is there. Of course. I actually wouldn't mind if Cristina came back to help support Callie. But it would bother me if she came back for Meredith. Not fair, I know. But I am weirded out by their dependancy. Don't get me wrong...I am all about the girl on girl loving...but Mer and Cris are more of a messed up mother daughter couple. Sorry. Off topic.

I've been too busy to stay current with this thread, but I wanted to echo some comments from Hope & Mesilla. Call me a Grade AAA cynic... but frankly -- I wouldn't expect to see Cristina's employment at another hospital dragged out for very many episodes simply because extra locations cost extra $$$! Especially when it's a involved, complicated set called for, like a second hospital... GA already has a lot of budget-sinks in actor fees and special effects department. I don't think they'll want to budget multiple episodes outside of their existing sets. A responsible show runner has to juggle extra budget demands like new sets, and all of the transportation fees, licensing fees, insurance fees, secondary crew, prop department overtime and expenditures, and it's usually a take-from-Peter-to-pay-Paul prospect... Just sayin'!
My expectation is that we'll see Owen & Cristina start the season separated (maybe even formally divorced), but that circumstance will result in Cristina's return within two or three episodes. Alternately -- maybe even a couple of episodes in the early season where we only see Cristina via phone call with Meredith, or get told by Meredith what Cristina has communication by text or email but don't actually SEE the actress herself! Then Cristina will be provided a reason (either because of Meredith, or because Seattle Grace can hire her as its senior cardio surgeon) to return to Seattle Grace, and the reconciliation dance between Owen and Cristina will start fresh. That's the scenario I'm expecting to see. But I DO expect to see the C/O relationship come around full circle this season. It's Shonda's MO, isn't it? Start them apart with episode 1, and bring them together at the end of the season (or, alternately, Christmas sweeps...)
I'm just very curious about the swell of Internet chatter predicting the deaths of both Mark Sloan and Arizona. Man -- I'm gonna miss Mark, personally, and I'd HATE to lose Arizona!! But if those two outcomes are in the offing, then I'm wondering if Shonda won't be sneaky and toy with a Owen/Callie relationship of some kind. Granted -- if Callie loses both Mark & Arizona, I don't expect her to be falling head over heels with anyone, and likewise, I wouldn't expect Owen to fall for Callie! But... again, I could see the writers teasing with that by having Owen step up and help care for baby Sofia. Owen is generous and a loyal friend, I couldn't imagine him failing to do reach out to Callie if she's in crisis, and there's the AU ep last season! Plus... we know there's nothing that's gonna make us fangirls melt faster than those super-strong McKidd arms cradling a little baby, is there? If I were in the Grey's Anatomy writer's room, I'd be all over that scenario like a box of chocolates, and as sweet, sweet torture to all of those poor suffering C/O fans out there...
Just sayin'. ::wink::

Just curious... but if you could have 3 character development moments for C/O this season, either separate or apart, what would those moments be? (Other than C/O together happily ever after -- I think it's all safe to say that that would be our shared #1 Priority!)
For me:
* a repeat of Cristina's "Meredith, Owen is my person -- you're just my friend" moment. That will NEVER get old!
* Owen playing his guitar -- anywhere, anyplace, for any reason.
* Owen given another chance to play action-hero. Seriously! You've got Kevin Mc-freaking-Kidd, and you just have him stand around all the time? If we don't get to Owen him jumping out of a helicopter and rescuing the plane crash victims single-handedly, I at least want to see him punch out a bath salts tweaker or something in order to restore order to HIS emergency room! (Yes, and when he does, I'll be yelling "13!!!" at the top of my lungs and scaring my hubby AND the dogs...)
