Thanks Marcy.
Is it up to the individual actor to submit something for consideration or the show?

Each of the shows sends two or three selections for nominees for an emmy. From this list, a group of judges reviews the names and selects them for the final ballot.

The show sends in its selections to be considered for the Emmy for best drama series. Individual actors have to send in their own submission tapes (2 episodes I think) and the eligibility period ends May 31. Voting starts in June and nominees are announced in July.
In the past , some actors have missed the deadline and could not be considered. I hope that Kevin's already got his tape in!! Elevator Love Letter and Sympathy for the Devil?

Go to goldderby.com for updates on the Emmy nominations. The writer there is very well connected and has written extensively, for years, on all the award shows. In fact, he is the one who figured out that Heigl took herself out of the running last year and he blew that story open. His site was acquired by the LA Times. He'll have an article on the shortlist of possible nominees for all of the acting categories eventually. Here is more than you ever wanted to know: goldderby.latimes.com/If you scroll down, he already has an article about the Best Show awards.

Remember that actors make their own submissions and also decide the category as well (Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, etc.) Grey's makes submissions of it's own for the best Dramatic series Emmy. I dont know how it works as to directors or the technical categories like editing.

Yes I remember you saying that at the Chat I find that quite interesting I'm wondering for which Episode Kevin is submitting (but I believe they only reveal or submit the episode after they get the nomination)
Ill hazard a guess and say Strangulation scene (think thats epi 5.19)

hi! article commenting Patrick's Emmy race as Supporting actor www.examiner.com/x-11365-Greys-Anatomy-Examiner~y2009m5d26-Since-when-is-Patrick-Dempsey-a-supporting-actor-on-Greys interesting comments: The bad news, however, is that this change means Dempsey will now be competing against his co-stars T.R. Knight, Justin Chambers, Eric Dane, James T. Pickens and Kevin McKidd. While Dane and Pickens have never received the type of critical buzz for their performances that leads to Emmy nominations, Knight, Chambers and McKidd could prove to be tough competitors. Although Knight received significantly less screen time this season, he'd be a repeat nominee (which always helps), and could prove to be a sentimental favorite following the tragic end to his story arc for the season. Chambers has never been nominated before, but stood out this season in his scenes with Katherine Heigl (a likely nominee in the supporting actress category). And the powerful performance by newcomer McKidd was called out by many critics as a crucial factor in the show's creative rebound this season. Bet./

Kind of sucks for Patrick Dempsey to be considered a supporting actor when he's a lead actor. Must have to do with material. Oh well.
