Kind of sucks for Patrick Dempsey to be considered a supporting actor when he's a lead actor. Must have to do with material. Oh well. The way I understand it, the actors (presumably with the help of agents and the like) decide whether they will run as lead or support. I've never considered him lead anyway. And I do think Kevin will be BIG competition for him. Justin Chambers might be as well. He's given some good performances this season. But TR Knight?? What episode would he submit? He hasn't been in any for more than 2 seconds.

Come on! I'll be bad! In this season: - Patrick could submit only the episode in which he is a desperate doctor and has the beard (without it could be hard for him to seem despaired!)!! - Chambers' character has to thanks to his ill wife if he is noteworthy!!

KMK - his work in sympathy for the devil (shower scene) and elevator love letter (everything he did there was amazing - choke, apology, love scene) and put in perspective eclipses anything done by the rest of the men on GA I figure, however, I worry that because he is the outsider/newcomer, he may get overlooked.
PD - really the only stand out acting scenes are his dark days at the trailer - hitting the ring, and the blowup with Chief in the trailer - but even these didn't leave as huge an impression as KMK key episodes.
Knight - are you kidding? What stand out scene does he have this season ? none of the epi's were really centered on his character at all except the final 2 - but it was plot driven not acting/character driven. My 2 cents
Chambers - he was a pleasant surprise this year. His stand out scenes are the ep with the band geek - the scene where they are testing her heart to prove his theory - wow that was an amazing scene by Chambers. He did pretty good stuff in the final 2 epis as well as the grieving boyfriend/husband. He could be a dark horse.
I cheering for Sandra Oh too.

My fear is that Kevin just won't get the recognition he deserves because he is a newcomer to the show. But on acting chops alone, there is really no competition. He blew every other guy on the show out of the water.
Justin Chambers had some good moments but to his disadvantage, a couple of them were in Elevator Love Letter and juxtaposed with Kevin's moments and, to me, therefore came off looking a little amateurish. They were good for JC but still not in the same league. That's just my personal opinion of course and all of this is very subjective.

I think Kevin's biggest competition will come from actors on other shows. I dont even think that there will be an issue of "splitting" the GA vote. He's got to compete with guys from Lost, Friday Night Lights and a whole host of other shows. But frankly, if he is even nominated, that'll be superb recognition. And it'll be well deserved.

I think KEvin has gotten enough critical acclaim he will get nominated, but his competition will definately be Justin Chambers. PD, TR, and ED barely had storylines. I mean PD did but nothing that would constitute a stand-out performance. On other shows he will have competition from Michael Emmerson (who I love), Terry O'Quinn, Rob Lowe (Brothers and Sisters), some guy from Desperate Housewives out of habit. Probably someone from True Blood and Mad Men perhaps.
The thing he has going in his favor if he is up against O'Quinn and Emmerson is that they have won previously, and I am sure Kevin still has a lot of support from Rome and those who felt he should have gotten a nod from that show way back when. So taking all that into account, I think Kevin has a real chance if he's nominated. He had such great material and an innovative character. I also think that Sandra Oh will get nominated ousting Heigl.

In my opinion, KMK was wonderful in every GA episode this year. Every scene, no matter how short, was well done. For his Emmy submission epi's, Sympathy for the Devil shows his humorous (Want to go on a date?) and dramatic/emotional (shower) range quite well. His part in Elevator Love Letter was mostly emotional/dramatic, but shows interactions with many of SGH's staff. Plus, these two were among the strongest episodes of the season (my favorites, anyway).
I like JC, and though his character was well-played, I'm just not feeling it was spectacular enough for Emmy material.
I'm hoping KMK makes it through to the final list.

I don't think Emerson has won. At least not for LOST. (Nominated but not won.) I think he was maybe nominated for his guest stint on X-Files too.

Nothing to say against actors in Lost ( I adore them all!), but I think, instead, that the new stranger guy (why not give a prize to a stranger? Why not give a prize to a new actor who was intervisted for Grey's A. in every show!) in Grey's Anatomy plays a character (a soldier) that could touch everybody in this period! Far cry from the usual!
No game with the other male actors in Grey's A.
Good chances for Sandra Oh.

Lead Actress Ellen Pompeo needs to put herself in Supporting category. I know her character carries the name of the show but it ain't gonna happen here. Meredith can actually be a thankless role. Its played so subtley the performance can easily be over or underlooked - particularly when a few others absolutely SHINE in their Grey's roles. (To the point where they suck the life out of any nearby stars.) Pompeo does very well, and I think her performance will be more appreciated in years to come. The years after GA is off the air.
Supporting Actress Throw everyone at the wall as see what sticks. But isn't that the case when every show nominates *EVERYONE*. TPTB just want to use a nom or win for publicity. Thats why I gave kudos to Heigl last year when she took herself out. Not saying I agreed or disagreed with her body of work and whether it was good or not good enough to submit, but props to her for taking a stand! I wish more people had that kind of guts. I don't think she was mean about it, just matter of fact. The press and paparrazi blew it waaaaaaay out of proportion. (But what DON'T they blow anymore?!?)
And if I was a ex prod. I would not fault an actor for speaking his/her truth. (Of course that may make me want to push myself, or my writers more, so that the actor thinks that material was worthy .. but I digress.)
The only deserving Supp. Actress noms are Sandra and Chandra. Chandra is consistent and always on her game. She brought what could have been a thankless role, and hated character, to life. She makes you LOVE Bailey and wanting more. She steals scenes and is hard to say NO to, as Hunt found out.
I've always thought Sandra was the rock of GA. She is the beacon (sorry Ellen, no offense intended.) She is never below top-notch and this year she blew it out of the park. If she doesn't WIN voters didn't watch television this year. It was brilliant the first time around. When you rewatch it, or watch and compare to her character's past years it only gets BETTER and BETTER. Trust me on this.
Supporting Actor KMK all the way. His ONLY competition GA wise is Chambers, who I think deserves a nod. His work the last 2 years has grown and deepened. But KMK wins easily for ELL. A no-brainer IMO. Add in shower scene and season premiere as second eps to submit. KMK and Hunt saved GA this year. That trumps Chambers. KMK made GA watchable again. Not only watchable, but must-see TV.
O'Quinn from Lost has won. Emerson from Lost deserves an Emmy but had stronger previous years (as did O'Quinn). Neither matches what Kevin did this year. And no single other actor so single handedly saved a show.
Guest Actress: Won't be nom for McDonnell and no way for Walsh. Not surprised they are putting up Tyne or Dunaway for consideration. Dunaway won't get nom though. Tyne might. She did more with a small role than most people. Usually does.
Really surprised Kathy Baker, Mariette Hartely and Bernadette Peters from season premiere are not here. Particulalry Peters and Baker. Baker has won for Picket Fences (in Lead). Strong as far as guest perf go. Peters too but I'd vote Baker.
Guest Actor Nice to see Dan Travanti resurrected from Hill Street Blues but he won't get nominated. Denny storyline failed to deliver with fans and crtics so Morgan is out. Stoltz stands a good shot at nomination. I believe he is also well liked. Not sure how guest spots get nominated though. First, who submits (the show or actor?) Second, is it for one ep, or can multiples be submitted when there is a story arc like with GA/Stoltz. That could make a difference in nominations.
Show GA *might* get a nom but it won't win. Too many underused regular characters (hello TR?!) and poor exposition of other stories (bury dead Denny, I don't care that it was all explained, you are b-e-a-t-i-n-g a dead man/story - GA is better than that).
LOST was great last year and this. Thought it deserved it last year but obviously no one listened to me. Last year was probably stronger than this year but only because this year jumped so much at times (particularly at the end of the season) and that may have made it hard for some to follow or forgive. Still, LOST is consistenly breaking TV boundaries (even though some cannot see it) and needs and deserves to be rewarded. As an overall whole, LOST usually works on all levels, even becoming more than the sum of its individual characters. I cannot say the same for GA. (Maybe Hunt and Yang can get Lost?)

LOST is the only show I think you could totally understand if you were drunk or on a 1960s acid trip. Then again, imbiding may just raise as many questions as one might be able to successfully answer .... ---------
The above statement is not an endorsement of excess ...

Kind of sucks for Patrick Dempsey to be considered a supporting actor when he's a lead actor. Must have to do with material. Oh well. Well PD may have been a lead in the past but I think all the guys on GA are working as an ensemble at this point. I don't like that Kevin has to compete with PD but in terms of acting I think his real challenge on GA comes from Justin Chambers. I didn't like the whole Izzy thing but Justin had a lot of meat to play with Alex.
As for which eps Kevin might submit. While I do think 5x14 "Beat Your Heart OUt" had a lot of range for Kevin from the flirting in the on-call room to the panic attack scene I agree with the choices of others on this thread. 5x12 "Sympathy for the Devil" Not just the shower scene but all the other subtle things Kevin did, like in his scenes with Tym Daly. And of course 5x19 "Elevator Love Letter" for pretty much every moment Kevin was on the screen. I know I was blown away.
ETA. While I've nothing personal against Ellen Pompeo I see NO reason for her to be nominated as lead actress. Like the guys, the ladies are more of an ensemble. Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh are the stand outs for me. No question.

Sandra Oh definitely for Supporting Actress this year. I'm not sure which second episode I'd choose for her, besides Elevator Love Letter. Rise Up and Beat Your Heart Out are two that featured several different aspects of Cristina.
I love Chandra Wilson to bits, but Bailey annoyed me many times this season, so I can't recommend her whole-heartedly this year.

---------------- Well, the Emmys are fast approaching. In fact, they’re on Sunday. And as I mentioned before, Grey’s Anatomy is nominated all over the place so it should be a fun watch for us fans. Here’s who’s nominated: •Sandra Oh - Best Supporting Actress •Katherine Heigl - Best Supporting Actress •Chandra Wilson - Best Supporting Actress •T.R. Knight - Best Supporting Actor •Kate Burton - Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series •Elizabeth Reaser - Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series The show is also nominated for: •Outstanding Casting •Outstanding Drama Series •Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup •Outstanding Special Visual Effects It’s clear Grey’s is dominating the Best Supporting Actress category. Hell, I have no idea who to cheer for. I guess we’ll find out on Sunday who will take home the Emmy. USA Today has an interesting article depicting the shoulds and woulds of upcoming winners. If you’re curious to see if their opinions match yours, check it out. It’s a fun read. They name Sandra Oh as the “should and will win” actress. T.R. Knight doesn’t get their vote, though. They also think The Sopranos will take home the best drama series award. I wouldn’t be surprised if that were true. Guess we’ll see. Who do you want to win? Who do you think will win? www.greysanatomynews.com/2007/09/14/greys-anatomy-emmy-nominations/

If Ryan Kwanten from True Blood gets nominated I will go crazy, and not in a good way. He is seriously the worst actor around and I know this, because I remember him from his APPALLING days on Home and Away.

Ha I agree Kaz and I love True Blood, I want the guy that plays Lafayette to be nominated. Its kind of funny if you look at all the comments people are up in arms that he picked heigl over Sandra and a lot of props for Kevin!

The thing with dropping PD down to supporting actor, I believe, has more to do with his chances of actually getting nominated...everyone is right that he didn't have any "Emmy" worthy material, but the Leading Actor category this year is going to be dominated once again by "Breaking Bad's" Bryan Cranston (well deserved), "Mad Men", and other stronger shows. I'm worrying that KMK and Sandra Oh are not getting any buzz about their chances of taking a Supporting Actor/Actress nomination (at the very least). I was looking through the LA Times' Envelope section today filled with studio campaign ads...so far Disney's ad is referring Emmy voters to go online to see the shows they are for their consideration. Sorry if this is all disjointed and rambly (my word).....
