we cannot disagree with these lovely reasons... what else do you guys love about him?? his accent is so hot.. ------------------------- Judging by how hot Dr. Owen Hunt is on our Hottest Grey's Guy poll, we thought it was due time that we gave Kevin McKidd some serious love. Here are the top 5 reasons we can't get enough of this ginger doc. 5. His family-man status Sorry, ladies, Kevin is married and has two McKiddies, whom he seems incredibly devoted to by the way he talks about them in interviews. But admit it: doesn't that make him even more crush-worthy? 4. His diversity of roles Did you spot him in Trainspotting? Are you hearing his voice when your boyfriend plays Call of Duty? Do you remember him stealing the woman away from Patrick Dempsey in Made of Honor? It seems like Kevin takes some projects for credibility and some for enjoyment, and you can hardly fault him for that. 3. His ever-changing look Sometimes he's blond, sometimes he's redheaded, sometimes he's somewhere in between. Apparently, his natural hair color is strawberry blond, but he seems to look good no matter what shade his mop is. 2. His real accent Have you heard him in his natural Scottish brogue? If not, you're doing yourself a disservice, because the difference is like night and day. Our question is this, though: how is it so easy for him to imitate 1. His leading-man quality He was the star of HBO's Rome, he was the star of NBC's Journeyman, he had a big role in the movie Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, and now he's a series regular on Grey's. Not everyone can take limelight that bright, but Kevin handles it with ease. www.wetpaint.com/greys-anatomy/articles/5-reasons-why-we-love-kevin-mckiddEdited to paste text of article in, so it's easy to refer back to - Kaz

Thanks Greysobsessed, that's a fun little list.
Okay, another reason:
- he's so generous when it comes to doing things for fans (Q&A's, chat etc)
What else?

Ok, here goes: I love his smile. I love his sense of humor. I love how very kind is (always taking time to talk to fans etc.) I love how tough he comes across in many of the characters he plays, but he always turns out to be a sensitive, caring guy (well, almost always ). I love those amazing blue eyes. For the record: I am married and I love my husband too ;D LOL

I love that he's left handed ;D .... which leads me on to the following. Ever since I was a small girl, I’ve always wanted to learn to play guitar and having recently been given one, my interest has been piqued again. Unfortunately, as with so many other things over the years, I’m struggling to master this skill. Why you ask? Well, you see I, like Kevin, am left-handed... or ‘ cack-handed’ as us lefties are often called in the UK, or ‘ corrie fistit‘ to use the Scottish term. I now realise that the guitar that I was so generously given, just won’t work for me ... because, as with many every day items.. it feels awkward and I want to hold it upside down and the wrong way round! Bearing this in mind, it will come as no surprise that the UK and Scottish terms are also used to convey ‘clumsiness’!!! Although this ‘clumsiness’ is usually down to trying to use products designed for right handed people. So, when I first saw Kevin play guitar, it caught my attention for 2 reasons. My 1st thought was .. “oh wow he’s really great!!” .. and my 2nd thought was .. “oh, another leftie who’s adapted to right handed guitar playing”. Knowing how much my left-handedness affects normal everyday things, this got me thinking about whether Kevin’s ever found his left-handedness to be a problem with his acting. I kicked myself hard that I missed the chance to ask him during his visit to our ‘chat’. (I was so dumbfounded, I couldn’t get myself together enough to gather my thoughts *duh*!!!) I am TOTALLY left-handed at everything, so to put it into context, here’s an taster of some things that I do that seem weird and are confusing to others : - Shaking hands –everyone always offers their right hand, even those who are lefties!!! It’s taken me years to get the ‘squeeze’ just right and not crack knuckles in the coming together of hands!
- Dancing & exercise classes – my feeble attempts at Salsa are legendary for bringing the class into chaos as I go the wrong way and my step aerobics technique is bordering on physical assault for the poor people near me!
- Slicing bread/cakes – I always have to turn the item around to cut it otherwise I leave a sloping edge for the next person to deal with!
- My tick are backwards– not good when completing anonymous surveys/votes.. as everyone knows it’s me!
- Playing cricket/baseball/rounders – great for confusing the fielders as you change direction to hit the ball at the last second
- Using a videocamera – having to use my right hand and controls on the wrong side means shaky, out of focus footage .. and that’s assuming that I actually capture the subject in the first place!
- Pouring drinks– I spill it everywhere if I use my right hand as I have no control, but using your left hand is supposed to bring bad luck.. so I can’t win really!
- Knitting – backwards/mirror image results when I follow a pattern
- Fencing with a foil – when I’ve tried, it’s a disaster... I have no aim and we clash foils constantly!
- Leaving the kettle handle facing the wrong way.. and remember us Brits love our tea .. so I do that alot!
And here are some cools things I own that make life so much easier: - Left handed scissors – now I can hold them comfortably and cut a straight line as I can see where I’m going.
- Left Handed meat carving knife- I no longer rip the meat off the bone .. the thinly sliced Christmas turkey looks perfect
- My left handed cheque book – no more smudging the ink and tearing cheques in half
- Left handed computer mouse & reversed click buttons – my hands/wrist love this .. the IT guys at work hate this!
- left handed fountain ink pen - no more scratching the paper as I write.. the ink flows beautifully
Anyway, no doubt you get the jist, and I hope that this has given you righties a glimpse of life from another perspective. So getting back to Kevin... it got me thinking about some of the challenges that he may face being a leftie actor .. here are a few of my quick thoughts to kick off with : - wielding a sharp scalpel, cutting and handling medical equipment – one slip as the nurses hand him the tools could be nasty & getting the camera angle/lighting correct when he makes his cuts must take extra consideration (GA)
- Numerous fight scenes & martial arts scenes – co-ordinating the choreography & timing must be extra complicated! (Bunraku, The Purifiers, etc)
- Knife wielding & sword fighting with a partner (if my attempts at fencing are anything to go by this must be horrendous to get right!) (Bunraku, Rome, Kingdom of Heaven)
- Gun toting .. most firearms (e.g gun sights) are designed for right handed people (Dog Soldiers)
- Scenes in which his character is holding something/writing .... the need for the camera crew to adjust the camera angle/position
- Directing /filming.. if Kevin is behind the camera will he have to perfect his camera technique to use his right hand?
- Training for his sporting pursuits ... e.g Curling (One Last Chance); Basketball & tossing the caber (Made of Honour); Tennis (The Virgin Queen).
I assume that the props people also have their work cut out sometimes finding the right props for him (e.g guns, medical equipment?) and the camera/lighting crews have to work just that bit harder to co-ordinate & capture that perfect shot. In English, the expression "To have two left feet" also refers to clumsiness, e.g in football or dancing. So I wonder, does Kevin have 2 left feet like me and how hard did he find it to learn the routines for his role of the dancing killer in Bunraku? Could this be why we’ve yet to see him waltzing or salsa'ing his way around the big screen. There was one role where I didn’t think Kevin’s dexterity would be an issue .. Soap McTavish.... or so I thought! Turns out that apparently the debate is still raging between MW2 fans as to whether or not Soap is left/right-handed or ambidextrous (i.e uses both hands). Fans are divided.. images are deceptive.. there are photos of him holding a gun with his left hand and with a scar over his right eye), but others shots show the scar is over his left eye .. so pictures are misleading and inconclusive. Fans comment that members of special operations forces are trained to shoot with their non-dominant side in the event that they are injured during an operation or if the situation requires it, which could explain why Soap shoots with both hands... but whether he’s a leftie or rightie.. the debate continues! So now I’ve set myself a task for the long dark British winter months. I am going to revisit his works and watch out for any leftie nuances. I'll let you know what I find. Anyway for those interested in knowing more... here are some interesting points/links: - Studies suggest that 8–15% of the global population are left-handed.
- Lefties often perform better at fast or difficult tasks that involve lots of information or stimuli. Lefties may be better at playing fast computer games, talking while driving in heavy traffic and flying a jet fighter - activities that need both hemispheres of the brain to process information quickly.
- Lefties have a tactical advantage in one-on-one competition.
- Studies suggests that because lefties are in the minority, right-handed opponents are not use to the way they fight, and the element of surprise gives lefties an advantage.
- According to the AA Driving School, lefties are more successful at learning to drive. As many as 57% of lefties pass their driving test first time compared with only 47% of right handers.
- In the 17th century it was thought that the Devil baptised his followers with his left-hand and there are many references in superstitions to the “left-hand side” being associated with evil and witchcraft.
- Officials in Mensa, the high IQ society, believe as many as 20% of their members are left-handed.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-handedness#Social_stigma_and_repressionFor those of you looking for a Christmas present for a leftie : www.anythinglefthanded.co.uk/index.htmland for me www.lefthandedguitars.co.uk/Here are some Famous Lefties : British PM, David Cameron; Tennis player Rafael Nadal; Paul McCartney (plays guitar left handed) ; Albert Einstein; Bill Gates; Oprah Winfrey; Prince Charles; Prince William. Of the 7 most recent US Presidents, 4 have been left-handed, including Barak Obama. In conclusion... according to a well known phrase “ Everyone is born right handed but only the greatest overcome it” and I (& Kevin I assume) certainly won’t argue with that

Hey IveOCD - now I know that among the many other reasons I think you are wonderful is that you are left-handed. I'm a righty myself, but both my mother was and my brother is left-handed so I fully understand the challenges you are describing. And, because of them, I've always had a secret soft spot for lefties, as we call them in the states.
So yes, the fact that Kevin is left-handed goes on my list as one of the reasons I love him! And I hope SOMEONE gets you that left-handed guitar - you deserve it!

Oh wow Ive awesome post ;D I'm actually ambidextrous I can use both Right and Left hands... (awesome gift if you ever had to write out lines at school LOL) my Aunt is also Ambidextrous seems to run as a family trait I have actually never noticed in Grey's if Kevin holds his scalpel in his left or right but I did notice it in Rome...when wielding an Axe. It is in my experience that most Leftys are quite creative people...So I think it fits for Kevin and Ive well you certainly are creative with your posts so i'm guessing its the same for you thanks once again

Ive, as Hope here I have a soft spot for left-handed people because my father is a leftie. He only writes with his right hand but for the rest he is a leftie.
And for who is interested Kevin/Owen used all medical instruments with his right hand: scalpel, bone saw (the thing with which is cut the sternum), syringe, staple gun. I re-watched just to be sure. ;D
The explanation of why lefties are better at some things that us the righty are not is that while we use more the left side of our brain, they use more the right side of their brain. It's about the dominant hemisphere of the brain.
I do love the fact that Kevin is left-handed.

OK, so .. mission 1 accomplished... Dog Soldiers ... and I confirm that Kev shoots werewolves right-handed which I assume must've felt a little awkward for him!... but then again Kev seems to rock at everything he does.. so maybe not such a surprise !! Guess he had to learn to adapt if the gun sights for lefties weren't available Wow... just imagine what damage Private Cooper could've done to them werewolves if he could've used his more skillful left hand

I'm like your father but backwards: I write with my left hand and I do everything else with my right hand (catch a ball with one hand: the right one will jump at it, the left one stays there, totally useless)... The trouble I had in school...When my classmates sang those right/left songs where you're supposed to hold your hands up one after the other... So, Ive, I do feel your pain: clumsy is my middle name, because neither my right nor my left hand can do one thing properly. My handwriting is awful, and even with my right hand I mess stuff up. BUT we're unique!!!!! and that's a blast.
