Poor, clueless first year med students. “Too dumb to find the toilet,” as Cristina puts it. They’re peering into body cavities for the first time, trying to impress their residents…or at least stay conscious. All while surrounded by renowned surgical geniuses. No pressure, right? They’re star struck, over-eager, and intimidated. And somehow they always seem to be in the way. Just ask Jackson. It’s tough being at the bottom of the surgical food chain! And I have to empathize with these “interns and residents of tomorrow.” I’m the writers’ assistant here at Grey’s. I spend five days a week in a room filled with, well, television genius. It was more than a little intimidating at first. Luckily, I’ve yet to pass out on the job, and no one writes on me with permanent marker. Although, it’s entirely possible I’ll end up bedazzled one day – our writers’ room is like a kindergarten stocked with glitter, glue and paints. But I probably shouldn’t give them any ideas… Bedazzling aside, my job is kind of awesome. Ok, the bedazzling is kind of awesome, too. I get to sit in the room and take notes while the writers simultaneously goof off and unspool their genius. I also used to be the writers’ PA here, so I had the pleasure of posting (and posting, and posting…you fans have a lot to say!) all of your blog comments. And I know you guys aren’t reading this to hear what I ate for breakfast this morning. You want the inside scoop on this episode. One tiny thing first. I’d like to do our writers’ PA, Fran, the favor our researcher, Meg, once did for me. Fran moderates all the comments on this blog, and there’s one rule that you should keep in mind when posting: be nice to Fran. Also, WHEN YOU YELL IN ALL CAPS AT FRAN, it’s a little bit scary. Don’t scare Fran. And don’t curse at Fran! Fran keeps the writers fed, and caffeinated. And writers that are well fed and well caffeinated write the best episodes. So please be nice to Fran. You wouldn’t want to get on her bad side… Speaking of bad sides, remind me never to piss off Callie Torres! She’s certainly not that girl who forgives and forgets at the first glimmer of an apology. “I. Don’t. Want. You. In my life.” Could she be any clearer? It’s heartbreaking. But I was so, so proud of Callie for standing her ground. Girl’s got principles. All Arizona wants is a second chance with the woman she loves. Is that really so much to ask? Turns out it is. Because not only is Callie deeply hurt, she’s also pregnant. With Mark’s baby. Wow. That lands on Arizona like a slap across the face. Do you remember when she iced Alex after finding out he slept with Callie? And that happened before Callie and Arizona were even dating. Mark Sloan might want to invest in a new deadbolt for his door. And a guard dog. In a way, this is everything Callie wanted (she was the girl with the aching womb!). It’s just not wrapped in the pretty package she probably envisioned. But that’s life. And Callie knows it. And it’s not quite the fresh start Arizona was looking for either, though it is the beginning of something… Bailey’s wading into unchartered territory, too. Talk of steamy on-call room rendezvous and dirty notes left in charts? Dr. Bailey? This is something the room struggled with. How can she still be Bailey while doing such un-Bailey-like things? What we figured out is that Miranda Bailey is still the same person, with a slightly new attitude. There are people, like Eli, who enter our lives and instantly change them, even if only a little. “Why the hell not?” Our doctors are dynamic. They grow, change, roll with the punches. Look at Meredith, peeing on ten stolen pregnancy tests hoping for just one to be positive. She thinks she’s gone soft core. At least in the race for Chief Resident. But as the Chief points out, the residents have been getting evaluated since their first day at the hospital. It’s a marathon, not a sprint…kind of like trying to make a baby. Not a bad deal for Derek, who’s happily “practicing” with his wife. But Mer’s fearing the worst, agonizing all day over the failed pregnancy tests. She’s an overachiever! And this failing thing? It’s not cool. Baby-making isn’t a surgery Mer can study up for and then rock. Practice does make perfect. So she’ll have to be patient. One last thing. It’s so great to have Cristina back in the hospital! And just in time to haze the med students and caution Mer about poo-covered babies. Is there really such a thing as a clean slate? It doesn’t seem like it. Cristina’s back in the game, but she’s not starting over, just continuing to build the career she’s worked so hard for. She’s up against some fierce competition. But that’s how all our doctors thrive – under pressure. And I can’t wait to see how they step it up in the final leg of the race. www.greyswriters.com

‘Grey’s’ pregnancy shocker If you didn’t watch last night’s “Grey’s Anatomy” and you still want to be surprised, click away now. Because I’m about to spill what happened last night. Mostly because it was so stupid. The residents “welcomed” (and I use the word loosely) a group of medical students - kids who couldn’t even find their way to the toilet, we were reminded. Webber (James Pickens Jr.) announced he was looking for a new chief resident. Teddy (Kim Raver) realized the consequences of marrying a stranger (Scott Foley). Eli (Daniel Sunjata) put some smooth moves on Bailey (Chandra Wilson) in a big way, and we saw a side of her we’ve never seen before: flirty, teased and pleased. (Memo to Shonda Rhimes: Just make Sunjata a regular all ready.) There was a short but welcome scene at home between Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Cristina (Sandra Oh) - supper right out of a cereal box. That’s how we roll in my home. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) struggled to get pregnant and that would ultimately dovetail in a way with the big drama of the night, Arizona’s (Jessica Capshaw) persistent attempts to reconnect with Callie (Sara Ramirez). Callie revealed that she was pregnant by Mark (Eric Dane). And suddenly “Grey’s” is back to being a daytime soap. This story seems like nonsense. Mark is the biggest man-whore in the hospital. Using protection should be like saying “hello” to a guy like him. But the story will divide not only Callie and Arizona but Mark and Lexie (Chyler Leigh) as Mark will no doubt want to be a father to this baby. Given his past screw-ups, he’s not going to be able to stay away from that kid. What did you think of last night’s “Grey’s”? Are you looking forward to seeing this baby drama play out? www.bostonherald.com/blogs/entertainment/love_that_tv/?p=435&srvc=blogs&position=recent_bullet

'Grey's Anatomy' Pushes Marriage for Health Insurance Scheme Finally! It's been three episodes since Grey's Anatomy started teasing us with a "getting married for the health insurance" story line, and it finally came to a head last night. It's hard not to notice Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) has been floundering in the love pit that is Seattle Grace/Mercy West. She can never get the guy, or at least get a guy to stick. So it was about time the writers threw her a bone, and what a tasty bone she got. Scott Foley! Yum. Er, rather Henry, a patient who's plagued with constantly growing tumors that prompt a constant call for surgery. His condition continues to max him out on health insurance, and he takes so many sick days he can't really build up any savings. Before the holiday break, he was trying to propose to his girlfriend to get on her insurance. She flaked, and Altman offered to take his case to the hospital to get him pro bono care. Naturally, the hospital said no. Which left the cardio doc with a big heart with no choice. Last week we got a quickie wedding between the two. Yay, Henry got his health insurance! But then nothing happened. Altman ran off into surgery, Henry sat at a bar waiting for his bride. We all felt gypped. But last night's episode didn't disappoint with its nuance. The Chief accused Altman of insurance fraud -- although Little Grey is happy to point out it's not fraud per se, just frowned upon by the medical community (stick that in your hats for future romance), and he doesn't let up on her all night. Unfortunately in the teeming sin pit that is Seattle Grace/Mercy West, Chief Webber makes the grand mistake of telling Altman that her relationship with a patient (who, it should be noted, was never actually her patient -- this is not a repeat of the Denny Duquette situation) is "inappropriate." Did you just snort too? Altman is ready with the snappy comeback -- a la, Chief, get a grip, every relationship here is inappropriate. That isn't to say the episode left the moral repercussions of the marrying for health insurance alone. In a country where 43.6 million people live without health insurance (the latest statistics from the CDC), so-called "insurance card marriages" really happen. Back in 2008, a survey found 7 percent of Americans admitted they or someone in their household had married for the insurance. In light of the recession, job losses, and the resulting loss of benefits, it's not hard to imagine there are more Americans at the very least debating the process. Having once lived without health insurance and been forced to fight with insurance companies over getting coverage when I had a lump in my breast (non-cancerous, but I didn't know that at the time), I can't say I blame them. We tend to take it for granted when we're healthy and when we have it, but life without health insurance is scary. If all it takes is a piece of paper -- and you see how lightly so many people take that paper -- it's hard to fault people for caring. But if you're considering it, you need to call up last night's episode as a warning. Because when Henry gets wheeled into surgery, and the docs find more problems than they expected, they need to talk to his next of kin. Any guesses on who that is? Teddy obviously has no idea what Henry's home life is like, whether he can handle it if the doctors cut out half his pancreas -- potentially making him an insulin-dependent diabetic -- prompting the Chief to rant, "You signed a marriage license and you didn't ask him the most basic questions on how he wanted to live or die?" If you're marrying for health insurance, there's a lot more to it than the paper. There's becoming, officially, that person's next of kin. There's being faced with making decisions for them in the case that they end up on an operating table (even if they're healthy now, think about it -- ever heard of car accidents?). That's just what was touched on last night -- consider too the financial implications if their medical bills climb too high (remember, you're now married, your finances are linked) or the risk of taking on their other bills simply by being married to them. None of that is going to play out onscreen -- already there's a lovey dovey relationship blossoming for Henry and Teddy (come on, it's Grey's, what else did you expect) -- but if you walked into the show last night thinking marriage for health insurance didn't sound like a bad deal, here's hoping it got the wheels spinning on the implications. Do you think it's OK to do? thestir.cafemom.com/healthy_living/114990/greys_anatomy_pushes_marriage_for

It was a return to old school form in this weeks’s Grey’s Anatomy. No major explosions, shootings or traumas to deal with. Just a couple of interesting medical cases involving a girl born without cheek bones and a man ran over by a horse drawn carriage and of course, lots of talk about the love and relationships of the staff of Seattle Grace. This week's episode also brought some familiar faces from previously aired awesome shows, most notably, Wilson Cruz (My So Called Life), Adam Busch (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Amber Stevens (Greek). Although the focus of this week’s episode was on Arizona trying to win her beloved Callie back, the writers did a nice job of spreading the wealth around and touching upon all the characters. Bailey and her nurse boy toy Eli were adorable. The Chief’s sly mention of the race for chief resident was perfect. Meredith taking a pregnancy test every 5 minutes was quite comical and the new interns were pretty spot on in their evaluations of the residents. In a supporting storyline, Henry (guest star Scott Foley) finally got his surgery and the rest of Seattle Grace learned Teddy married him so that he could do so. The scene with Henry and Teddy where they discussed emergency contacts tore at my heart a bit and I think, well I hope, we saw some inklings of a new relationship for Teddy. The woman deserves some love even if it's with a cancer ridden patient. I'd like Henry to stick around for a while. The actors have some good chemistry and he's really easy on the eyes so he fits the Grey's mold pretty well. Wilson Cruz's storyline was also a win this week. I like how through him the writers showed their stance on gay marriage but were not preachy about it. It was heartbreaking to watch when he told Callie that all he wanted was for his day to be special just like everyone else's is and for his partner to know that he was the best thing that ever happened to him. Although it didn't go as planned, I think his partner did realize this. I also think it may have opened Callie's eyes a bit. Watching Callie hold her ground against Arizona was great throughout the episode but it wasn't until the last moment when I thought she was going to crack and take her back that I was really enthralled. This was when she dropped the bomb that she was pregnant with Mark's baby.....and since that's the case, would Arizona even want to get back together? I'm thinking 'YES' since one of the themes of tonight's episode seemed to be Arizona figuring out her flaws, specifically, the fact that she runs away when things get hard. It'll be interesting to see how this affects the dynamic between Callie, her best friend, and her ex-girlfriend. Furthermore, how will this affect things between Mark and Lexie? tvovermind.zap2it.com/tv-news/greys-anatomy-712-start-review/44438

Based on last night’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy, I’d say the show has officially moved on from the shooting. I’m really happy with both last night’s episode and how this season has gone in general. The shooting that concluded the sixth season is no longer the overriding theme of each episode, but I feel as though each character has been changed permanently. They’re still themselves, yes, but older and wiser. Grey’s grew up, but not so much that we’ve lost the drama. Because there was plenty of drama. This week the docs had to deal with visiting first year med students. At first I rolled my eyes at how young and naive these people were, but then I remembered – these people would be, like, anywhere from 22 to 25 years old, depending on what they did after their undergrads. They’ve probably only been in med school for a few months. And then I cut them some slack. Plus finding out that they all wrote evaluations of their experiences at the end was really funny. Harsh EvaluationsMeredith was too distracted by her multiple negative pregnancy tests to pay much attention to her student. Sure, the girl asked some weird, probing questions about Meredith and her super-hot husband. But that was because Meredith was totally wrapped up in her own personal issues all day and the little brown-noser thought that meant personal conversations were the fast track to Mer’s good side. She was, of course, wildly wrong. But Meredith wasn’t being much of a teacher. Cristina tried to be nice to her med student because Chief and Bailey kept not-so-subtly reminding her of the qualities required of a chief resident, but it was a case of too little too late. She barked at her student when he blabbed some bad news to a patient and let him see a body up close and he passed out. I don’t think he should have blamed that one on her, but he called her “heartless” in his review. She was nice to him later, but the Chief already had his hands on the harsh evaluation. Things weren’t going so well for the other docs either. April was told she didn’t know how to delegate, and Avery kept shoving his student out of ORs – which was revealed to be a big mistake when the brainiac student noticed something that saved a patient’s life. In the end, Alex was the only one who got a good evaluation…because even though he was hitting on his super hot med student all day, he was also actually teaching her stuff. And then he slept with her. Inappropriate RelationsI can’t believe it took seven years for someone to point out that Seattle Grace is teaming with inappropriate relationships. Sure, Mer and Der are married now, as are Owen and Cristina. But it’s still a little inappropriate. Then, of course, you have Alex sleeping with his student. Sloan sleeping with…everyone. And Teddy. Teddy’s decision to marry a patient so he could have health insurance and, you know, not die really came back to bite her. The Chief was furious, and when he called Teddy (apparently the emergency contact for…OK I still just think of him as Scott Foley) to make a life-changing decision during surgery and she had no idea what to do. Would her husband be OK with having diabetes, or not? (My question was, what was the alternative to having diabetes? Death? Choose diabetes, whether you know the guy or not!) Turns out Scott Foley doesn’t have any family in the area, or any friends at all, so he had no choice but to put Teddy as his emergency contact. As cheesy as it sounds for Teddy to fall in love with this guy after marrying him to save his life, I want it to happen. And I want Scott Foley to be on my TV every week. Here’s two other things I want: 1. For Bailey’s relationship with Hot Nurse Eli to become the real deal 2. For said relationship to get more screen time I like how flustered she gets about him, and I like how he can really go toe to toe with her in conversations. Bailey’s so hard to ruffle, and I like that she’s with someone who ruffles her. Plus, he’s pretty. Belated ApologiesHere’s something weird. Last week, I thought “Hmm. I bet Callie is pregnant with Mark’s baby.” I can’t remember what led me to believe this and it’s bugging me so much that I think I’m going to have to go back and watch the episode to look for the clue. But I thought it and I didn’t mention it because a) If I was wrong I’d be annoyed because I hate being wrong and b) If I was right I’d be annoyed because I hate spoilers. So I kept my mouth shut until the beginning of this week’s episode, when Callie was looking all sad in the bathroom, and then I Tweeted it. I wasn’t the only person with this prediction, so congratulations to the other Tweeps who shared my prophetic feelings. Now let’s dissect this situation. Arizona spent the entire episode begging Callie to take her back (even going so far as to list all her unlikable attributes) and Callie spent the episode shutting her down. Finally, at the very end, Callie told her. She’s pregnant with Mark Sloan’s baby. Does Arizona still want a second chance? There’s no doubt in my mind that Callie will keep this baby. And there’s no doubt in my mind that Sloan will be supportive. In fact, I feel like all that crap with his long lost daughter was really just a set up for this. The question is, how will it influence their relationships? First of all, I really hope Sloan and Callie don’t try to actually have a relationship. That would feel weird. I’m curious to see how Lexie will react. Will she and Sloan stay together? She didn’t seem to be super into the idea of playing stepmom the first time around. And what about Arizona? This would be a good chance for her to show Calllie that she’s not going to bail in a tough situation any more, but that’s an awful lot to take in. I want Arizona and Callie back together, but it might be too optimistic for me to hope they’ll just raise the baby together and live happily ever after. Patient Patients On the side, Callie learned a lesson in forgiveness when she treated a man who’d been trampled by horses on the way to his own commitment ceremony. His groom-to-be had ordered a horse-drawn carriage and bagpipes (because his boyfriend is Scottish and really likes being Scottish) to take them to the courthouse, but the bagpipes spooked the horses and chaos/devastation ensued. He gave a really nice speech on the importance of human rights and gay marriage, and it was sweet that his partner forgave him, but the storyline felt slightly disjointed from the rest of the episode. The other major medical storyline, about a girl who was born without cheekbones, felt a little more in line with the doc’s own drama. Arizona wanted to go ahead with a tried-and-true conservative surgery, but Alex and Sloan wanted to do a more experimental surgery that would allow the girl to lead a more active life. It highlighted Arizona’s weakness – she runs away from obstacles. Although the teen they were to be operated on was slightly too precocious for me, what with her speech about how if she got the conservative surgery she’d be more prone to depression and drug use. It sounded like she’d Googled some stats and written them down on cue cards. What did you think of the episode? Do we have enough operatic storylines to get us through the rest of the season? Will Teddy fall for her patient husband? Will he die? Will Mer and Der conceive or adopt? Will Cristina be crowned chief resident, or will Alex dark horse his way into the position? And what about this baby – good twist, or bad? insidepulse.com/2011/01/14/greys-anatomy-episode-7-12-review/

"Start Me Up" is a great Rolling Stones song and it’s also the name of this Grey’s Anatomy episode. Meredith and Derek are at home moping because they are still not pregnant yet. Maybe angry sex doesn’t produce happy sperm? Callie is at home in her bathroom crying. (I hate it when Callie cries.) But then her crying turns into a weird smile. Oh my God, is Callie pregnant with Mark’s baby? I’m crossing my fingers that I’m way off base here. Callie wipes her mascara, heads out the door with Mark and sees Arizona moving in box across the hall. Jeez, Arizona, take a hint — Callie needs some space. Arizona is now subletting from the subletters who are subletting from Callie. Does that make sense? Callie yells at Arizona, “I don’t want to see you. This isn’t a ploy. Get your crap out of my apartment.” Callie storms off. Oh great, now it’s going to be awkward at the hospital. Arizona, being sunny and adorable, turns to Mark and says that Callie’s anger is a good sign because it means that she cares. Arizona is turning into a stalker. At Seattle Grace Hospital, Cristina is back in the groove of things as she and Meredith (let’s call her "Mer” from now on — it’s been seven seasons so I feel close enough to Meredith to give her a nickname) are gossiping about Mer’s lack of pregnancy. Mer decides to spend the entire workday peeing on pregnancy sticks. Now I’m no doctor, but I don’t believe that this aids in conception. As everyone gathers, the Chief introduces the new first-year medicals students. The first-years are each paired up with a cast member — I mean doctor. Alex and Avery both want to be assigned to the “hot chick.” Alex the scoundrel gets the girl, and Avery gets stuck with the goofy chubby guy. Sorry Avery, I guess you’ll have to actually practice medicine today. The Chief pulls Cristina aside and says he wants to oversee her for the day since she’s been out of the hospital for a while. Then the Chief announces that the race for chief resident is on. Here we go again! The Chief, Bailey, Cristina and Cristina’s first-year are working with Henry (Teddy’s “husband”) although Teddy hasn’t told anyone that she got married — but as soon as Teddy walks into the room with the insurance paperwork in hand Henry announces the happy news to the stunned staff. Surprise! I love surprises. Callie is in a bad mood as she waits with Owen for an ambulance to arrive. She violently snaps on her blue latex gloves. Nobody mess with Callie today, she’s peeved! I have a confession to make. I've never actually seen Grey's Anatomy. Well, not a complete episode, at least. I've seen bit and pieces, usually involving a hot doctor wearing just a towel, but like Lost, it was just one of those pop culture touchstones that passed me by. So I went in to last night's episode pretty much ignorant of what was going on, but I had to see Wilson Cruz guest starring, and I definitely wanted to check out that cutie pie T.R. Knight. Wilson played Kyle, a man who decided to surprise his boyfriend Brady on the way to city hall to sign domestic partnership papers with a ride on a horse-drawn carriage. Unfortunately, he also decided to pay tribute to Brady's Scottish heritage by hiring bagpipers to play. Needless to say, horses and bagpipers don't mix. "They all ran over me, Kyle!" cried Brady. "Bagpipes?" Jeez, what a drama queen. I love how Brady can remain bitchy and sarcastic while facing death. Which is exactly how I would be. I hope. Later, a guilt-ridden Kyle insists on remaining with Brady when Dr. McCrankyLesbian has to crack his neck back into place. She tells him to hold Kyle's hand, knowing full well what's going to happen. I think Dr. McCrankyLesbian is my favorite character on the show. In the best scene of the entire episode, Wilson knocks it out of the park with his monologue on why he wanted this day to be special, and not just a trip to city hall. For this scene alone, he should be a contender for a Guest Star Emmy. Kyle and Brady's storyline concludes with forgiveness and more sarcasm. In other words, they truly are in love. Even though Wilson only had about five minutes of screen time, he was still the best thing about the episode. Oh, and we find out why Dr. McCrankyLesbian is so cranky. She found out that she's pregnant, by Dr. McSteamy! Wait a minute! What? I never did see T.R. Knight, but hopefully I can catch him next time. Oh, and I heard rumors that George Clooney may be leaving. That should be a good episode, too. www.afterelton.com/tv/2011/01/wilson-cruz-greys-anatomy?page=0%2C0

It’s the circle of life. Once upon a time Meredith and company were wide-eyed interns, jockeying for position amongst each other. Now they are residents with their own interns. Chief Webber is choosing his chief resident, and all of them have a shot, even Cristina. She has returned to her winning ways and looks like she hasn’t missed a beat. Her intern is bumbling, anxious, and sweaty. She tries to make nice with him to impress the Chief, but one of the few things Cristina isn’t good at is playing nice. Alex has the hot intern, and Avery has the not-so-hot intern. They are all tasked with teaching their interns even though they are still learning themselves. This should be interesting. There’s never a lack of romance on Grey’s Anatomy. Unrequited love, confused love, forbidden love – all kinds of love. Arizona is displaying that stalker love. Undaunted by Callie’s rejection, she is back at Seattle Grace and determined to win her affections once again. Callie is playing hardball, and she will not forgive Arizona; she is also being pretty mean. Mark stands in support of his best buddy, but also tries to help Arizona win her back by encouraging her to assess her flaws. Throughout the episode he catalogues her faults, including the fact that she’s not a good listener and she bails when things get tough. I find Arizona rather annoying, but I will admit that she seems to truly care about Callie. Callie has dissed her pretty badly, but Arizona is relentless. She even tries to move back in to the place Callie has been subletting. As the episode concludes, she makes a final pitch to Callie, who drops the following bombshell: she’s pregnant with Mark’s baby. Despite this shocking news, I actually think the pair of them could still work out. It’s not like Mark and Callie are romantically interested in one another. Both Callie and Mark wanted to be parents (remember Mark has a daughter but didn’t raise her). I envision a kooky scenario where they are all one big happy blended family. Speaking of family, Meredith and Derek are trying unsuccessfully to start their own. Meredith neglects her intern because she’s preoccupied with checking pregnancy tests all day. But that’s the only way the writers addressed Meredith and Derek in last night’s episode. They spread the action around, highlighting the new relationships of the typically single Teddy Altman and Miranda Bailey. Both have found companionship in the unlikeliest of places. Teddy, with a terminally ill patient, and Bailey with a nurse. They are good characters and so I enjoy seeing them display a gentler side, especially Bailey. Usually the over-sexed characters like Alex and Mark get most of the action, so it’s nice to see Bailey cut loose for a change. However, I anticipate her new beau may want more of a commitment than she is willing to give. She is already downplaying their “thing,” saying that he would never meet her son or anything like that. Why not? Maybe if she took him more seriously they could get to the next level one day. Overall I enjoyed the episode because it was well-written and entertaining, but I hope it doesn’t get to be too much like a soap opera. Everyone has slept with everyone else, and now Callie is pregnant by Mark. I’m curious to see if Arizona will stick with Callie for the long haul. She was never really keen on being a parent, but if she truly loves Callie it’s something she will consider. And how will this baby affect Mark and Lexie’s rekindled romance? The plot thickens. "Start Me Up" introduced some new first year characters to the halls of Seattle Grace, and the race for chief resident is on. The surgeouns are their usual snarky competitive selves and don't offer much guidance or help to their counterparts for the day. Too bad too as the new docs had to evaluate their residents and those evaluations went directly to Chief Weber (James Pickens Jr.). Callizona - Arizona spends the day trying to cheerfully win Callie's love back and ask Mark for some advice. He very plainly tells her one of her biggest problems is that she doesn't listen very well. She certainly has to listen at the end of the show Callie shocks her with the news that she's pregnant, and it's Mark's baby. Yes that's right, Dr. Mark Sloan (McSteamy Eric Dane) and Callie (Sara Ramirez) are going to have a baby. We know there is no chance that Callie is going to abort or give the baby McSteamy up for adoption since she's been wanting to have a baby for quite some time now. How will Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) respond to the shocking admission? Will she run from the hard stuff as Mark accused her of earlier in the episode? Will Callie be able to forgive Arizona for breaking her heart a few months ago when she left her at the airport? The love she saw between the two gay guys that were in the hospital after one had been trampled by horses showed her what true love and devotion were. If a man who was almost killed by his fiances good intentions forgive him, maybe Callie can find it in her heart to forgive Arizona and make the Callizona fans happy again. MerDer: In other baby news, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) still haven't been able to conceive, but Derek is not concerned and just tells her that practice makes perfect, wink wink, nudge nudge. Mere is annoyed when her junior doctor for the day comments on how hunky McDreamy her husband is. Hello, the girl would have to be dead not to notice that. Teddy - Henry: Has there been a nickname coined for them yet? It will depend on how long this poor guy lives. Their marraige is legal, the insuranc eis in place so Dr. Webber can now operate on him. Webber is not happy about this marraige of insurance convenience but Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) lets her know how impressed she is with Dr. Altmans sacrifice. After Henry is under the knife, there are complications and Teddy gets called in to make the decisions as Henry has named her his emergency contact. In recovery Teddy lets Henry know she's not happy that she had to make that kind of life changing decision since she doesn't really know him. He explains that she really is the closest thing he has to a friend in the world. She gazes into his eyes and clasps his hand. Stay tuned for how this relationship progresses. Miranda - Eli: Saving the best for last, Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) is having more fun in this episode than in the entire run of Grey's Anatomy. Eli (Daniel Sunjata) is unrelenting in his flirtatious pursuit of Miranda and she has reverted to a giggling mess whenever he is in the same room with her making embarrasing slightlly suggestive banter when other's are in the same room with them. When she's trying to shoo him away he grabs and plants a sexy long kiss and you can tell that she'll be craving many more of those from this hunky addition to the staff at Seattle Grace. Bailey has needed some lovin' for quite some time now. www.examiner.com/grey-s-anatomy-in-national/greys-anatomy-start-me-up-relationship-recap-mark-callie-arizona

New medical students arrive at Seattle Grace. They are to follow and learn from the resident doctors. Christina, Karev, Meredith and the other doctors are being evaluated by Dr. Weber who is looking to fill a Chief Resident job. Weber gives them advice on how to treat these new students and to remember how they felt as new students. The new students were allowed to evaluate their superiors and Karev is the only one that got a good review, it pays to flirt I suppose. The patient Dr. Aultman married to get him insurance, had to have a kidney removed, but during surgery they found that his pancreas also needed removal, which Dr. Aultman had to give the ok for. Now, with no pancreas, he will become a diabetic. He's ok with it. Arizona won't take no for an answer, trying to get back together with Callie. Callie is abrupt with her telling her to stay out of her life for good. Arizona persists all through the episode until Callie finally tells her something that shut her up, Callie is pregnant with Mark's baby! Yep, that will do it! Meredith makes 10 trips to the ladies room, not because she has a bladder problem, but because she is taking pregnancy test strip tests. All negative so far. My guess is the actresses that play Callie and Meredith might be pregnant in real life because both of them have gain some weight, especially in the face. ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-540802?hpt=Sbin

When last we left what was once television’s most adorable ‘couple’ of hot docs, Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) on Grey’s Anatomy, Arizona had kinda / sorta camped out on Callie’s doorstep to beg forgiveness for heartlessly abandoning Callie. Then the duo saved a child’s leg together and it seemed just a matter of time before they became the poster children for pseudo-normalized representation of lesbians on television. And then this week’s episode happened! For those of you who haven’t run to Hulu to catch up with the docs since the episode aired Thursday, big – although not wholly unpredictable, as someone on the SheWired Facebook page called this – SPOILERS ahead… Here’s my Gay-Cap for the week, but before I boil it down to the gay storyline, kudos are in order for eat-her-with-a-spoon she’s so cute Amber Stevens (Greek’s Ashleigh), who guest starred as a sassy young intern who kept Justin Chambers’ Dr. Karev severely distracted from medicine for the bulk of the episode. But back to the story at hand --the Callie / Arizona tale for this week opens with Callie crying and shaking her head in the mirror, ostensibly because of Arizona’s sudden reprise at Seattle Grace. One would assume Callie had begun to heal and that Arizona just ripped open the wounds with her return -- to indulge in some medical metaphors… But even from the get-go this crying jag seems more pointed, as if there were more to it than heartbreak. Despite the heaving and the tears, Callie cleans up well. She and Mark are leaving the apartment when they discover a chipper Arizona, surrounded by boxes, in the hallway of Callie’s apt. It turns out that Arizona has bought out the subletters, who actually happened to be Callie’s subletters, but why let a little thing like paperwork get in the way of winning your girl back right? But Callie is not impressed as she heaps an insult-laden go the f*** away sort of speech on Arizona. And well, Callie’s a better woman than I because Arizona would have had me at ‘hello I'm moving in whether you like it or not’ with those thoughtful baby blues. “My lack of interest in seeing you is not a strategy. I’m not playing hard to get,” Callie spouts. “I don’t want to see you. I turned my life upside / down for you and you walked away because, for a week, I was cranky.” And if that weren’t enough, she adds that Arizona is “untrustworthy” and “self-centered.” “I am 100-percent certain that if I let you back into my life that you will hurt me again… Get your crap out of my apartment,” she says. And maybe Arizona is a tad self-centered. Whereas most folks might engage in a moment of reflection at that point, she says to Mark, “It’s good that she’s mad. It means she cares right?” READ MORE: www.shewired.com/Article.cfm?ID=26469

Smell that, kids? That’s the fresh scent of January, that peaceful little time in between the holidays and February sweeps. For GREY’S ANATOMY, this means it’s a time of relatively few major developments (with one BIG exception, which we’ll get to later). But these episodes are important as well – every story has to have a middle, and while there wasn’t an overload of excitement this week, we are now nicely set up for the craziness that will inevitably happen when GREY’S returns next month. The driving force of this Thursday’s hour: attack of the med students! Seattle Grace is invaded by first-year med students, who are there to follow the residents around for a day and observe everything they do. Unbeknownst to said residents, the med students are secretly evaluating them as well, which is significant since Chief Webber has announced he’ll soon be picking a chief resident. Cristina is gunning for the job, of course, but she’s got her work cut out for her: Webber uses every chance he gets to point out that patience and empathy are two excellent qualities in a chief resident. Not really the first two qualities that come to mind when one thinks of Cristina, whose interactions with her med student mostly involve her pushing him out of the way. She gets a pretty crappy evaluation in the end, but she’s not alone – the results for everyone are pretty dismal. The only resident who manages to get a good review is Alex, who’s been paying lots of attention to his little protege… because he’s trying to nail her. Honestly Alex, you didn’t even have to try. The girl had eyes for you from the start, and it’s no surprise that she winds up walking through the kitchen in your T-shirt by the end of the episode. Hey, look everyone, Alex managed to go after a girl without being a complete ass at some point! I may faint from surprise. Our attendings have a little more on their plates. Bailey is experiencing her very first fling with a hot nurse. I guess he’s supposed to be hot, anyway. He’s not really my type, but to each her own. He’s definitely Bailey’s type, that’s for sure, because she is giddy with excitement about it. Didn’t think Bailey could be giddy? Neither did I, up until now. Good for her – she knows it’s not going anywhere serious so she’s just having fun and enjoying the moment. Given the drama of her last two relationships, I’d say she’s more than earned it. Meanwhile, Teddy starts to realize the full weight of her decision to marry Henry (Scott Foley). Not only is she his wife, but he’s also listed her as his emergency contact, meaning that she’s the one who has to decide whether or not to remove most of his pancreas while he’s in the middle of surgery. Needless to say, she’s a little concerned that these types of decisions are falling to her, until Henry explains that there’s literally no one else who can make them. The only family he has is a sister who lives halfway around the world, and it’s pretty hard to keep friends when your life is a never-ending battle to stay alive. Like it or not, Teddy is the closest thing he has to a loved one. The revelation hits her pretty deeply, and all she can do is hold his hand in sympathy. His adorable, sweet, chronically ill little hand. (Sidenote: what exactly does this guy have? Did they ever say? We know he’s got tumors but what’s the “chronic illness” that’s causing them? Did the GREY’S writers run out of actual diseases and now they have to invent unspecified ones that have whatever symptoms make for the best drama? Or did I miss something? Could I possibly ask any more questions in a row?) Teddy’s issues pale in comparison to what Callie and Arizona are going through. Arizona’s still having no luck with Callie, despite trying every tactic she can think of to win her back. She moves across the hall from Callie and Mark (i.e. back into the apartment she and Callie used to share). She bugs Mark all episode long to help her identify her flaws so she can become a better person. And finally, in an elevator scene like only GREY’S can do, she gives Callie an impassioned and heartfelt speech about how she made a huge mistake, but she’s learned her lesson and will never ever bail again when things get tough. Which brings us to Callie’s HUGE reveal at the end of the episode: Callie is pregnant. With Mark’s baby. Holy. Frak. Suddenly, with that one piece of information, the future of two separate relationships is in question. Hold on though – I may have thought of the perfect solution. Give the baby to Meredith! It’s brilliant! Poor Meredith with her fibroid-infested uterus has been moaning all episode about how she can’t get pregnant, and along comes Callie with a baby she doesn’t want! The universe is screaming for your attention here, guys. Don’t give me any of that crap about your feelings. This is too good an opportunity to pass up! Well, whether or not the characters listen to me, I think this episode set us up pretty well for the show’s return next month. Until then, GREY’S lovers! Don’t forget to write your comments below! Can Arizona still keep her promise not to bail again? And how will Callie’s pregnancy affect Mark and Lexie’s relationship? Let us know what you’re thinking! www.givememyremote.com/remote/2011/01/14/grey%E2%80%99s-anatomy-start-me-up/

I wasn't quite sure what to expect following last week's epic conclusion to the 13-episode story arc that began way back in May 2010. It was certainly a tough act to follow, and I admit I was disappointed. "Average!" proclaimed my friend, Judy, and she's absolutely correct. Neither wonderful nor horrible "Start Me Up" was very much ... average. Having said that, a lot actually happened in this episode, so let's get to it. Callie and ArizonaWell, the gloves are off and the pretty pink bubble has officially burst. Calzona is in ruins and it's getting nasty. Pushed to choose, I'd be on Team Callie, but, in fairness, outright mistakes and questionable choices have been made by both women, and they are now facing their greatest hurdle to date: Callie is pregnant with Mark's child. Despite having predicted this development, part of me is still surprised that Shonda went there. It seems more than a little "soap opera," yet manages to muck up both Calzona and Mexie in a major way. Depending on how it's told, however, it could be intriguing. It's also a development liable to incense the MerDer shippers. Not only is Callie getting a baby first and accidentally, but Meredith and Derek are (post-miscarriage) having difficulty conceiving and are likely headed down a storyline of infertility struggles. I'm wondering if that will lead to an adoption down the road, but that's a topic for another column. Two New CouplesFirst, the good news. Eli is all kinds of adorable, and I really like him with Bailey. I like that he's leaving her scandalous notes in charts and proposing on-call room trysts. I like that he's bringing out a lighter side of Miranda, a woman who is finally saying ... why not? And I really like that for all Miranda's plans to compartmentalize her life and keep Eli a fling, that's not likely to be the case for long in Shondaland. Now the bad news. Henry is also pretty darn adorable, but his story with Teddy is boring. It's not awful, at least not yet (I still fear Denny Duquette 2.0), but it's boring. Don't get me wrong. I am grateful for small favors. Teddy is now firmly and clearly Cristina's mentor and Owen's friend (emphasis on friend), and the Triangle of Doom is not only over but seemingly never existed. That works for me. What doesn't work for me is that poor Kim Raver seems to be struggling yet again to overcome a poorly written storyline. It's also a problem that in a cast of this size, where screen time is a precious commodity, lots of minutes are being siphoned off to tell this story. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ... The Race for Chief ResidentContests are always fun on GA and I'm sure this one will be no exception. It's a good thing that this thing is a marathon and not a sprint, however, because most of the residents did not fare well with their First Year Med Students. Interestingly, Karev received the Chief's praise, even though he basically spent the day striving for (and ultimately achieving) a goal totally unrelated to medicine. That's ok by me, though, as I actually think Alex could be an terrific Chief Resident. Again, that's for another time. Ironically, Cristina Yang ultimately was the best teacher to her student but not until after his poor evaluation of her had been submitted. It was a slow burn all day for Cristina, back in the hospital at last and fighting her inherent distaste for this sort of thing, aka first year med students. Yet, to my relief, she wasn't the same old Cristina. Neither was she so vastly improved in her interpersonal skills that we no longer recognized her. Instead, to my mind, she was a realistic combination of before and after, an emerging portrait of a woman who is still a brilliant driven surgeon but whose life experiences have rendered her a better person, a better doctor and, yes, even a better teacher. And most interesting of all, despite the bad review and difficult day, Cristina didn't seem to mind much. As she snuggled into Owen's embrace as they ate dry cereal for dinner, it was clear that she would simply move on to fight another day while not being overly affected by this one, content in her career and her marriage. Awesome. An all-new episode of Grey's Anatomy will air on Thursday, Febr. 3, 2011 on ABC. www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anatomy/greys-anatomy-fan-columnist-st-39080.aspx

With a highly emotional crisis behind them, the doctors of Seattle Grace attempted to move on to the next chapter of their lives on Thursday's episode of Grey's Anatomy. Too bad life rarely cooperates. Meredith and Derek hoped their fresh start would include a baby but the numerous pregnancy tests she took at work yielded the same disappointing result as the one she'd first taken at home. "A baby doesn't wanna set up shop in a hostile uterus," she said. When Derek reassured her that it takes time to get pregnant, Mer was quick to point out that wasn't the case for everyone. Put Callie's name at the top of that list! In the closing moments of the show, after Arizona had pleaded once again for her ex's forgiveness, Callie dropped the bombshell that, thanks to a drunken hook-up, she's expecting Mark's child. Naturally, the timing couldn't have been worse. In an effort to win Callie back, Arizona had bought out the subletters of the apartment the two women once shared so she could move back in and be closer to Callie, who's living across the hall ... with Mark. Callie had seemingly started to warm to the idea of a reconciliation after witnessing the forgiveness between her patient, who'd been trampled by horses on his wedding day, and his same-sex partner, who'd inadvertently caused the trampling. Arizona had done some soul-searching of her own and, with Mark's help, realized that the greatest impediment to another shot with Callie (at least before the baby revelation) was her tendency to run when the going gets tough. Will Arizona stand by the woman she loves, even though she's pregnant by another, or bail again? And what does this latest wrinkle mean for the recently reunited Mark and Lexie? The last time Little Grey found out her man was a dad, their relationship quickly fizzled. Other attempts at a clean slate also proved easier said than done. Last week, Teddy married patient Henry in order to provide him with medical insurance. This week, the disapproving Chief called her into the OR to make a life-altering surgical decision on Henry's behalf, which demonstrated that, like it or not, Teddy's fake wedding means a very real commitment. Especially because, as poor Henry confessed after surgery, he has zilch in the way of a support system outside of his stranger of a wife. Meanwhile, the residents contended with a new crop of interns in the hopes of proving themselves worthy of the up-for-grabs chief resident gig – though most failed miserably, despite varying degrees of effort. Ironically, it was Alex who scored highest on his evaluation, even as he scored between the sheets with his thong-flashing intern. At least Bailey is enjoying a strings-free fling with very fine nurse Eli. For now anyway. www.people.com/people/article/0,,20457807,00.html

Tonight’s theme? Inappropriate relationships. Kind-of amazing that it took them seven seasons to address that, isn’t it? In any case, let’s look at the major developments in the vast number of inappropriate relationships among our favorite lusty TV docs: Derek & MeredithRemember, they used to be so totally inappropriate! So inappropriate she lost her black panties on the floor when they had sex in one of the hospital rooms and then it was this whole big deal! Ah, how far we’ve come. Now she’s appropriately desperate to appropriately have his in-wedlock baby, and she’s freaking out that it’s not happening immediately. (Sweetheart, you’re in your, ahem, late 30s. What did you expect? You’re a doctor. You should know these things.) As she whined that her pregnancy test came back negative that morning, Cristina’s advice was succinct: “Pee on a bunch of sticks. Don’t let the one stick win.” Clearly no one here is in obstetrics, that’s for sure. The exchange that made me look forward to the concept of Meredith as a mom? Cristina: “You think peeing is exhausting? Wait until you have a mewling, poo-covered baby hanging off your boobs 24/7.” Meredith: “Why is my baby gonna be poo-covered?” Alex & Ashleigh from GreekToday, in addition to discussing the inappropriateness of relationships, we will also be referring to a lot of guest stars by the characters they have played in the past that we love so dearly we cannot let go of them. First up is Ashleigh from Greek, played by the stunning Amber Stevens (an EW office crush who we’d cast in anything if we ruled the pop culture world) — seen here as one of the naïve med students visiting the hospital on a bit of a field trip for the day. She got paired off with Karev, who crushed on her as much as EW does. She clearly reciprocated. “You were that guy on Seattle Med, right?” she asked. (Love the throwback to the documentary episode.) “The one who made a trachea from scratch? … Badass. I’m really interested in regenerative medicine.” He, of course, was more than happy to teach her everything he could. And as it turned out, this was auspicious for the lately-suffering Alex on two levels: Not only did it give him an edge in the race for chief resident — the rest of the residents were snotty to their med-student charges, and the Chief was watching them closely — but Ashleigh from Greek also ended up pantsless in his apartment later. That, friends, is the definition of a win-win. NEXT: It's Noel from Felicity: He needed insurance. And had pretty eyes. READ MORE: tvrecaps.ew.com/recap/greys-anatomy-season-7-episode-12/

Last night’s Grey's Anatomy, "Start Me Up," was terrific, creating a bunch of new loose ends and concluding with one of the all-time cliffhangers. Seeing how the different relationships develop the rest of the season should be interesting to say the least. Callie is still so angry with Arizona, but Kyle’s speech about his undying love for Brady (Callie’s patient) seemed to hit home with her. It was great to see “Ricky” from My-So Called Life playing Kyle in such a poignant, albeit minor, role. When Brady forgives Kyle for getting him hurt, Callie grows quiet and seems to wish she could do the same with Arizona, who spends the entire episode trying to make up with both Callie and Sloan - and clearly looking for an ally in Mark. Little does she know ... Arizona might want to look for a new sublet option. At the end, Arizona apologizes yet again to Callie, only to have her admit (as the Grey's Anatomy spoilers have hinted for weeks on end) that she is pregnant with Sloan’s baby. Do you think this will keep Arizona from pursuing a relationship with Callie? How would the dynamic between Arizona, Callie, and Sloan work if they did get back together? It’s kind of difficult to picture the three of them and a baby living together happily ever after. Also, Callie hasn’t even told Sloan about the baby yet. He has expressed his desire to have a child in the past, but now he is finally back together with Lexie. How do you think Sloan and Lexie will react to the news? Meredith is concerned about getting pregnant, and it seems like this is going to be a recurring issue going forward. She and Derek look like they are doing well again, and he is being very supportive. It is ironic that Callie got pregnant, while Meredith can’t. Think that will cause tension between them in upcoming episodes as well? When Henry’s medical problems get more and more serious throughout the episode, Teddy begins to second guess her decision to marry him so spontaneously. She is upset when the Chief chastises her and tells her that she must make Henry’s medical decisions because she is listed as his emergency contact. When Henry confides in Teddy, however, that he has no one else left because of his recurring medical problems, a wall is broken down and they bond. When Teddy sits on Henry’s bed holding his hand, it's clear there is something between them. Do you think Henry will ultimately be a love interest or a close friend? It seems like Henry is filling the void that Owen left in Teddy’s life when he married Cristina. Cristina showed at the end of the episode that she is capable of being nurturing and could be a good chief resident. Who do you think will eventually get that honor? Alex won the little contest according to the Chief, but he was only successful because he was trying to win over his attractive student. Alex is back to his old tricks. Totally inappropriate relationship? Maybe, but an awesome one too. Dr. Bailey and Eli are adorable together, but Dr. Bailey made a little speech to Teddy about how she could never have a serious relationship with Eli or bring him home to meet her son. Do you think they will continue to date? If so, will it ever become more serious despite Bailey’s reluctance? So many unanswered questions remain after this outstanding hour. After this week’s cliffhanger, next week’s episode and beyond should make for great TV. Until then, we leave you with some Grey's Anatomy quotes from last night ... Callie: You want a second chance? Arizona: Yes. I'll do anything. Callie: Today I found out that I'm pregnant. With Mark's baby. How about now. Meredith: It's all anybody wants, right? Clean slate. A new beginning. Like that's gonna be any easier. Ask the guy pushing the boulder up the hill. Nothing's easy about starting over. Nothing at all. Arizona: What the hell do I have to cop to to make her give me another chance? Sloan: You bail. When things get hard, you bail. Teddy: Life and death decisions wasn't part of our deal. Sloan: I'd choose her over you in the divorce. You know that, right? Dr. Bailey: I think you're dirty. That's what I think. Eli: You want to be dirty with me? Chief: You've signed a marriage license, and you haven't asked him the most basic questions on how he wants to live or die. Chief: Also it's funny when they fall down. Callie: Things don't go the way you want them to. Ever. Arizona: Ok, I know I'm not perfect, and I know sometimes I don't listen, and I'm sorry about that, so here I am ready to listen. Callie: Um, ready to listen. Arizona: Like a priest at confession. Meredith: Well, the thong is unprofessional. Chief: This is a totally inappropriate relationship. Totally inappropriate. Sloan: You're a crappy listener. Add that to the list. Cristina: Ok, you think peeing is exhausting. Wait 'til you have a muling, poo-covered infant hanging off of your boobs 24-7. Chief: We are doctors. We save people's lives every day without marrying them. You marry someone you love. Meredith: People are really romantic about the beginnings of things. Fresh start. Clean slate. A world of possibility. But no matter what adventure you're embarking on, you're still you. You bring you into every new beginning in your life, so how different can it possibly be. Meredith: The baby doesn't want to set up shop in a hostile uterus. Arizona: Well, now I'm your subletter. Hooray? Callie: My lack of interest in seeing you is not a strategy. I'm not playing hard to get. I don't want to see you because I turned my life upside down for you and you walked away because for a week I was cranky. You're untrustworthy, so I don't want to see you. You're self-centered, so I don't want to see you. I am a hundred percent certain that if I let you back in my life again you will hurt me again, so I don't want to see you. This isn't a ploy. I'm not pouting. I don't want you in my life. Get your crap out of my apartment. Teddy: That's disgusting. Henry: Yeah, I wouldn't eat it if I were dying. www.tvfanatic.com/2011/01/greys-anatomy-review-start-me-up/

The episode opens with Derek and Meredith waiting for the results of a pregnancy test. It is negative and Meredith worries that she will never get pregnant, but Derek reassures her that they will keep trying. Meanwhile, Callie is crying in her bathroom but Mark calls for her and they leave the apartment. In the corridor they see boxes and discover that Arizona is moving back in across the hall. Callie is furious and yells at her that she's not playing hard to get - she doesn't want to see her because she doesn't trust her and knows she will hurt her again. She shouts at Arizona to get her stuff out of her apartment and storms off. Arizona looks at Mark and points out that Callie wouldn't be mad if she didn't care. At the hospital, Cristina advises Meredith to keep taking more pregnancy tests. The doctors discover first year medical students waiting for them. They are all assigned a student - Meredith is given Keira, Cristina is handed Fred and April gets Hudson. Jackson is disappointed when Alex is handed an attractive girl, Laurel, while he is stuck with Edward. Webber explains that he would like Cristina to stay with him so that he can monitor her progress. He advises her that she is still a prime candidate for chief resident and the other doctors are shocked that the race is on for the role. Later, Cristina complains that Fred keeps chatting. They accompany Webber and Bailey to meet Henry ahead of his surgery. Webber notices that Cristina seems dismissive of Fred and asks if she has given him Henry's background. He explains that Henry was initially refused the treatment because he had no insurance. Henry reveals that he is married now and corrects Webber when he assumes his former girlfriend wed him. Webber asks who he is married to and, at that moment, Teddy appears. Henry hands her some paperwork and, when she has gone, explains that she is his new wife. Webber confronts Teddy and tells her that marrying Henry could be insurance fraud and was highly unethical and inappropriate. Lexie offers Teddy support and when Webber has gone, describes what Teddy did as "awesome". Later, Webber, Bailey, Cristina and Fred examine Henry's scans. Fred is confused by the pictures and Cristina is scornful, but helps him out when Webber reminds her that empathy is a good quality for chief resident. The doctors realise that Henry's tumour is eating into the kidney and they will have to take the kidney out. Cristina and Fred go to see Henry and he asks them to give him a hint about his scans. Cristina refuses and tells Henry not to say anything. Henry can see that Fred looks uncomfortable and urges him to say what the scans showed. Fred reassures him that everything will be OK and blurts out that his uncle had his kidney removed. Cristina is furious and Henry is shocked that they have to take out his kidney. Later, Webber briefs Henry about the surgery but he asks for a second opinion from Teddy. Cristina points out that this is not in Teddy's speciality but he insists. Webber angrily asks Teddy for her recommendation and, when she gives her consent to the procedure, tells her that her relationship with Henry is inappropriate. Teddy points out that a lot of the doctors have relationships with each other and Eli announces that Bailey is having a relationship with a nurse. Bailey is shocked and, flustered, tells them all to ignore him. Later, the doctors begin Henry's surgery and Cristina asks Fred if he would like to see the tumour. However, he faints. Cristina apologises and Webber tells her that seeing med students teaches him humility because it reminds him where he started. He adds that it is a good quality for a chief resident. Suddenly, Cristina discovers a cyst on Henry's pancreas. Webber calls in Teddy and explains that as Henry's wife and emergency contact she needs to give her consent for them to remove his pancreas, which would make him diabetic. Teddy is flustered and admits that she doesn't know the details of Henry's next of kin. Eventually she agrees that Webber can act as he sees fit and he tells her to leave. After the surgery, Bailey flirts with Eli, who has left her a dirty note in one of her charts. Later, Teddy approaches her and tells her to give her the speech about her inappropriate relationship with Henry. Instead, Bailey confesses that she is "having fun" with a nurse and explains that although he is inappropriate, her new attitude is "why the hell not?" Teddy goes to see Henry, who is recovering. She admits that she gave her permission for the doctors to remove his pancreas. Henry realises that she is angry that he put her down as an emergency contact and Teddy replies that their arrangement was supposed to be about paperwork, not life or death decisions. Henry admits that his parents are dead, his sister lives far away and he has no work friends because he moves around jobs so quickly. He explains that Teddy is the closest thing he has to a friend and she takes his hand. Elsewhere in the episode, Brady Sullivan is brought to the hospital after being trampled by a horse on his wedding day. His fiancé Kyle is with him, shocked. He keeps apologising for arranging the horses as a surprise and refuses to leave him while he is treated. Callie and Derek examine him as Keira tells Meredith that she is impressed she is married to Derek. Meredith is annoyed and goes back to see how Derek is getting on. Callie realises that she will have to snap Brady's neck back in before his surgery. Jackson advises Kyle to leave, but he refuses. Callie, who is in a bad mood, tells him to hold his hand. When she snaps Brady's neck back, he screams and crushes Kyle's hand. The doctors take Brady into surgery and Meredith asks Keira if she wants to see the sutures. However, she is angry when she realises that Keira is using her phone and wants to send a photo to her boyfriend. As the operation continues, complications arise. Edward remembers something from his class on Friday and correctly solves the problem. Derek and Owen praise him but Jackson is visibly annoyed. After the surgery, Callie finds Kyle and explains that Brady will be fine, although his recovery will be painful. Kyle admits that he just wanted the day to be special. He explains that he campaigned for gay marriage but they got fed up of waiting and decided to have a domestic partnership. He reveals that he just wanted to have a big day like everyone else. Callie reassures him that things never go the way you plan and takes him to see Brady. When Brady wakes up, Kyle apologises again but Brady tells him to stop. He announces that he forgives him and jokes that he doesn't want Kyle to make it up to him because he'll kill him this time. Kyle holds Brady's hand and tells him that he loves him. Elsewhere in the episode, Arizona admits that she has flaws but speaks about things like smoking when she is stressed. Mark tells her that Callie needs to hear about her real faults. The pair go in with Alex, Laurel, April and Hudson to see a 15-year-old girl called Sara with a genetic disorder which means she has no cheekbones. Arizona wants to carry out a skull transplant, but Mark suggests an experimental cadaver bone transplant. Arizona explains that it is best to be conservative. Later, the other doctors stage a presentation to convince Arizona that they should carry out a cadaver transplant but she refuses. She announces that as she is lead doctor, the surgery will be carried out as planned. Mark tells her that she can add "crappy listener" to her list of flaws and advises her that there is more wrong with her than the fact that she smokes when she's stressed. Arizona goes to see Callie and apologises for not listening more, adding that she's ready to listen. However, Callie just tells her to get her stuff out of her apartment. Arizona finds Mark again and agrees to carry out the cadaver bone transplant. Sara's parents are reluctant but she convinces them with an emotional speech. In surgery, Alex offers Laurel the chance to drill the cadaver bones and explains that he is teaching. Mark reminds him that their students are only allowed to observe. Meanwhile, Arizona reels off more than her faults, but Mark tells her he will always side with Callie. Arizona accepts that but explains that she thinks of him as family. Mark tells her to add "patronising" to her list. At the end of the day, Cristina finds Fred sitting outside and approaches him. He explains that he has a PhD and is top of his class, even though she thinks he's an idiot. Cristina advises him to always back up his resident and gives him tips for when he feels faint. Fred admits that he feels bad now and tells her to disregard his evaluation. Cristina is shocked that the students had to fill in evaluations and rushes off. Meanwhile, Meredith yells at Keira for only caring about Derek and looking at her phone. Keira points out that she knows Meredith kept sneaking off to take pregnancy tests and adds that she was just trying to get on her good side when she talked about Derek. In the locker room, Meredith points out that no-one will care about the evaluations but at that moment Webber walks in and criticises all of them except Alex, who received a glowing recommendation from Laurel. Meanwhile, Arizona finds Mark and admits that she doesn't know what her worst faults are and asks him what she needs to admit to so that Callie will give her another chance. Mark tells her that she always bails when things get difficult. Arizona runs and slips into the same lift as Callie. She confesses that she walks away when things get hard but is here now and will fight to make sure Callie knows that she is committed. She adds that Callie's fault is that she isn't forgiving her. "I am in love with you and you are in love with me," she says. "All I'm asking for is one more chance." Callie stares at her and says: "Today I found out that I'm pregnant with Mark's baby. How about now?" As the lift doors close, the episode ends. www.digitalspy.co.uk/ustv/s46/greys-anatomy/news/a297921/recap-greys-anatomy-start-me-up.html
