The stars of tennis, TV and film are converging on Delray Beach next weekend, which must mean it’s time for the annual Chris Evert/Raymond James Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic at the Delray Tennis Club.
Newcomers this year include tennis and temper-tantrum legend John McEnroe and actor Christian Slater (Heathers, Pump Up The Volume).
Last year, the 2010 Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic raised $700,000.
Chris Evert retired from the sport in September 1989 and one month later she hosted the first Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic. Since 1989, Evert’s efforts have raised more than $19 million to combat drug abuse and child neglect in Florida.
Both McEnroe and Slater are scheduled to play in matches on Nov. 13. Among the other celebrities scheduled to appear at this year’s event are actors Jeffrey Donovan, the star of Burn Notice, which is filmed in Miami, and Scott Foley, currently appearing on the hospital drama Grey’s Anatomy. Also appearing from Grey’s is actor Kevin McKidd who plays Dr. Owen Hunt.
Hoda Kotb, the host of NBC’s Today show, will play, as will newsman Stone Phillips. Actors also appearing include Maeve Quinlan, Jill Zarin, Jon Lovitz and Alan Thicke.
And soul legends The Spinners will provide the music for the tourney’s gala.
