'Grey's Anatomy' Recap: Twisting the Knife, Stabbed in the Back Thursday, November 15, 2012 Greetings, Grey's Anatomy fans! Like Cristina I, too, am back where I belong this week, so let's talk "Second Opinion". Despite being ably directed by Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey), I found this episode to be lacking somehow. I wouldn't quite go so far as to call it boring, but I kept waiting for something ... anything ... to liven things up. Let's review. She's Back! Is it just me or does it seem like Cristina was in Minnesota forever? Thankfully The Clinic and the reptilian, chatty Dr. Parker (ewww) are history and Dr. Yang is back at Seattle Grace Mercy West. Professionally, things are going great. Not only is the new cardio attending basically letting Cristina run the department, but she is turning out to be a terrific teacher as well. Who else loved her scenes with Happy/Dopey and Mousey? It warmed my heart to see her channeling her late mentor, Dr. Thomas, and I am cautiously optimistic that Yang has turned a corner as a surgeon. On the home front, though, this aren't nearly so rosy. Owen is treating Cristina in a completely professional way. She seems surprised by this, but I can't say that I blame him. He's just trying to protect himself after getting his heart broken again when Cristina not only left but cut off all contact with him. What does Cristina expect after all that's happened? And, yet, Chief Hunt can't remain stoic when it comes to Dr. Yang. When he fears she's gone off the rails on her first day (don't worry, it's all good) it turns out that Owen was the one who fought to get Cristina back on staff at the hospital. Busted! Plus he's living in Derek's trailer and she's renting a room in Alex's house (!) because neither can stand to be in the firehouse without the other. Aw. There's hope for those two crazy kids yet. Feelings Speaking of crazy kids in love, what about Jackson and April? Turns out it's not just sex, at least not for Jackson. As for April, well, I'm not quite sure that even she knows how she feels since she's in such a state, but I still think they are as cute as bugs in a rug. And in semi-related news, I couldn't decide if it was funny or horrifying that Jackson kept accidentally receiving the steamy text messages that Catherine and Richard were exchanging. Who's shuddering with me? But Richard (as is often the case) had the last and best word. Jackson's not quite as bothered by their romance as he'd like them to think. Just keep it out of his inbox. Potluck The rest of the storylines were a bit of a mish mash. Intern Jo (still too much of her) discovered Santa's mystery illness was Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome (a real disease which affects many people, including Chandra Wilson's daughter). Alex and Meredith sparred over him buying her house. Derek and Callie dealt with his hand and whether or not he'd ever operate again. Miranda tricked Arizona into coming to the hospital to treat a patient. Twist Remember when I said that I waited the whole episode for something to happen and shake things up? Well, be careful what you wish for because in the closing scenes we discovered that the lawyers for the plane crash would not be pursuing Jerry the Pilot but rather Owen (!) and the hospital. No, not Boise Memorial, but Seattle Grace Mercy West. Now perhaps this ridiculous storyline is just a means of getting Cristina and Owen back together again (she could stand up for him for once) but I certainly hope it's short-lived. I mean, REALLY? How on earth are Owen and/or SGMW remotely responsible for this accident? Because they sent a team on a medical flight to save someone's life? Ludicrous! I hope the crash survivors refuse to be a party to this nonsense. If they didn't want to sue Jerry, surely they won't sue their boss/colleague/friend/husband Owen. Right? RIGHT? Grey's Anatomy won't be new next week due to the Thanksgiving holiday, but will return in two weeks on November 29 with "I Was Made For Lovin' You" on ABC. www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anatomy/greys-anatomy-recap-twisting-t-48452.aspx

'Grey's Anatomy' Recap: Homecomings and Heartbreak7:28 PM Cristina returns to Seattle Grace as Arizona and Alex both take big steps in their respective lives. During the episode, which was directed by co-star Chandra Wilson, Seattle Grace welcomed back not one but two of its best and brightest, while a huge storm cloud began to surface on the hospital's horizon relating to the plane crash survivors' pending lawsuit. Cristina Cristina (Sandra Oh) returned to Seattle after Dr. Thomas' tragic death sent her packing from the Minnesota hospital where she had escaped to following the plane crash that claimed the lives of Mark and Lexie. Back at her old stomping grounds -- and living with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) at the McMansion -- Cris is making up for lost time and re-establishing herself as a force among the new class of interns at Seattle Grace. Assigned to Dr. Jeff Russell's (A Different World's Dominic Hoffman) service, he blows her off and essentially gives her carte blanche to take care of his patients -- based alone on her sterling reputation. Meanwhile, Owen (Kevin McKidd) isn't treating her like his wife -- whom he clearly still has feelings for -- but instead as a new doc, handing her an orientation packet. After Cristina saves the life of one of Russell's patients, Owen worries that her going rogue would cost the returning doc her new gig. Ultimately though, Dr. Russell thanks Cristina for her work and reveals that it was Owen who had pushed hard for him to take her on as his fellow. While it's a big step for the estranged couple, it's not all good news for the duo as Cristina isn't ready to return to the marriage, picking up bedding from the firehouse she shares with Owen and heading to Meredith's Alex's place as his new roommate. Alex Speaking of Alex (Justin Chambers), the reformed himbo begins to turn over a new leaf after a string of romps with the new batch of interns leads him to ponder if he's going to be "that guy" who drives a Camaro and hangs out at his old high school years after graduating to pick up girls. After clashing with Meredith on a string of repairs -- most of which represented valuable personal memories for both Meredith and Alex's growth as individuals and surgeons -- Alex reveals that it was Arizona's words to him, that he has nothing to show for his life, that prompts him to rethink his life and priorities. They agree to keep things as is (save for dry rot!) and Alex returns home to find his new roommate. Arizona For her part, Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) is still sulking at home despite being fitted for a prosthetic that she's slowly learning to walk with. Bailey takes it upon herself to entice Dr. Robbins to take a major step and head back to the hospital by baiting her with a case. Motivated to help, Arizona begins to take her first steps of progress since her amputation and ultimately arrives back where she belongs -- walking the hallways of Seattle Grace and coming in with a potential solution to Bailey's case, and bringing an epic grin to both Bailey and Callie's faces. The Lawsuit The survivors are meeting with attorneys and attempting to put a price tag on the group's physical and emotional losses after the plane crash. Noting that the award will be sizable, the docs struggle with placing blame on the pilot, who is now paralyzed after injuries he sustained during the deadly crash. After the attorney presses Callie (Sara Ramirez) to reveal that Derek will never operate again -- which she does so the group can collect a bigger payday -- she later recants the statement after going head to head with Derek. It turns out she'd rather have settled so they didn't have to relive the crash on a daily basis and would have rather not operated on Derek's hand. In the end, Callie says she thinks Derek can operate again -- his nerve may need more time and there are other things they can try to help him -- and reveals she thinks about it every night and feels as if she failed him. "You should have pushed me harder; we haven't tried everything and you shouldn't give up until we do," an emotional Callie tells him. Inspired, the group agrees to leave the pilot out of the lawsuit, with the attorneys -- who dismiss Owen from the talks since Cristina is now present -- revealing that they're going after bigger fish. " The best strategy will be to look for fault with the hospital -- the people who put you on that plane," they say, effectively putting Owen on the hook. April and Jackson The comic relief of the episode came via April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams), who are still going at it, with April comparing the nature of their inappropriate relationship to car crashes and delectable desserts. After April attempts to dump Jackson for God (yet again), he reveals that their relationship isn't just sex for him and he has real feelings for her. You can't help but wait to see this happen. What did you think of the Wilson-directed episode? Do you think Seattle Grace is at fault for the crash? Are you bummed to see Cristina staying with Alex? Hit the comments with your thoughts. Grey's Anatomy airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on ABC. www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/greys-anatomy-recap-arizona-walks-390815

'Grey's Anatomy' 'Second Opinion' Recap: The Risk of Pushing Too Far Grey's Anatomy season 9 continues with episode 6, "Second Opinion." The doctors meet with lawyers regarding their lawsuit, Bailey finds a way to get Arizona back at it, and Cristina settles back in to Seattle. When Bailey finds out Arizona won't leave the house, she calls her to consult on a patient and says she'll have an intern bring over the chart. However, though she tells Arizona the chart's outside her door, it's not. Arizona's angry, and Bailey blames her intern. But she never sent anyone with it. Arizona leaves Bailey a message and says she has thoughts on her case, but she needs the chart. As Callie's leaving, Bailey tells her she may have pushed things too far. And then they see Arizona in the hospital, and Bailey sends Callie away. It worked. Bailey apologizes and shows her the chart. Arizona knows exactly what's wrong, and she's back where she belongs. Jo is dealing with a patient, "Santa," who keeps throwing up on her, and though everyone thinks he's just a drunk, he insists he hasn't had any alcohol and his labs come back clean. So Jo orders an abdominal CT and cleans him up so he'll get better care. Owen lets her have the scan, but tells her she has to discharge him if nothing shows up. When his scan comes back clean, Santa admits he came in looking for drugs. He gets migraines and wanted aspirin. He throws up on her again, and Alex keeps yelling at her to change her shirt. Jo finally yells back. However, Alex figures out what he has (Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome), and they can treat the migraines to lessen his symptoms. Alex and Meredith are fighting about repairs he wants done to her house, but she argues they already have a deal. Their patient, Brian, is in pain and jaundice, and they soon discover there's a mass on his liver. He's been doing steroids, and they have to operate. They find out it's cancer, but they do get it all. It could come back if he continues to use steroids. As for the house, Meredith explains that what he wants to fix are memories. The house is fine the way it is, and Arizona may have told him he had nothing to show for his life, but he's fine the way he is too. She's not changing anything, and they have a deal. And though Alex didn't want to have any roommates, Cristina doesn't give him much of a choice. She's moving in. Meanwhile, Cristina's back at the hospital, and Owen says the new cardio chief, Jeff, pushed to get her there and expects her to essentially run his service since he's busy. Though the interns don't like her at first, that changes when they go into a surgery. But Cristina performing the surgery doesn't go over well with Owen, who says Jeff could fire her. However, Jeff thanks her and says he knows why Owen pushed so hard for her. April and Jackson are still having sex, and though they're having some problems—she spends a little too much time ranting about being weak, crashes, dessert, and disappointment God—to the point that he just keeps leaving, it's nothing on the awkward situation he's going through with Richard and his mother. Richard accidentally sent him an email meant for Catherine, and since Jackson forwarded it, he gets the reply. Richard suggests that he's not as upset as he pretends he is and he just doesn't want to admit he's happy his mother found someone who makes him happy. Speaking of relationships, Jackson tells April he has feelings for her. It's not just sex. The doctors have to meet with the lawyers, who need to assess damages to monetize their injuries. When the doctors want to know where the money's coming from, they protest when the pilot is one of the sources. When the lawyers talk to Derek about his hand, they push Callie to say he won't operate again because it would raise the award. She does, and Derek takes a break. When he finds her, she blames him for pushing them not to take the settlement with his speech. He pushed them then and he pushed her to operate on his hand. He believed she could do it, and that's on him. It's not her fault. She goes back in to talk to the lawyers and says she lied. She believes Derek will operate again, and she hasn't stopped thinking of things they could try. She felt like she failed him, but he shouldn't give up yet. However, the doctors soon learn that the lawyers haven't exactly been honest with them. After they have Owen step out of the room, they explain they're looking for fault with the hospital—with Seattle Grace, specifically, the people who put them on the plane: Owen. NEWS/Grey's Anatomy Recap: Cristina Returns to Seattle Grace Tonight's Grey's Anatomy was a special one because it was directed by star Chandra Wilson! So what twists did she have in store? Cristina (Sandra Oh) returns to Seattle Grace, but isn't exactly welcomed with open arms. Plus the settlement from the plane crash takes a very interesting twist. It's time to recap "Second Opinion" right now: To Feel or Not to Feel: April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams) are still going strong, but it's same old, same old. April is still feeling guilty about cheating on Jesus and it's getting repetitive…for us and Jackson too. He seems to be getting fed up with her roller-coaster emotions (or maybe he's upset because of all the email sexting his mom and Richard are doing). Finally at the end of the episode they both acknowledge it's not just sex and there are feelings involved. Hopefully now they will progress with this relationship! Triumphant Return: Cristina's back, and she's back with more nicknames for the interns. The ironic thing is they actually love her, and she is actually a good teacher. But her return wasn't exactly as smooth as she hoped. Cristina waltzed in like she owned the place (and the patients), and Owen (Kevin McKidd) warned her it was going to rub a lot of the staff the wrong way. Don't hate on Owen, though, because it turns out he was the one who fought hard to get Cristina rehired and it was worth it. As for Cristina's living situation, Alex (Justin Chambers) bought Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) old house and agrees to let Cristina rent there as long as he gets the master bedroom. A More Triumphant Return: Bailey calls Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) for a "consult" on her patient. Yes, we put consult in quotes because Bailey knows what's wrong with the patient, she just wants Arizona back at work. Bailey fakes that the patient's chart is at Arizona's door so she is forced to get up and use her prosthetic leg. Bailey's experiment works because when it's not there, Arizona shows up at the hospital to look at the chart herself. Finally we see her personality slowly come back while she helps Bailey. Who's to Blame? Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Callie (Sara Ramirez) are preparing to go to court and they are at odds at first. Callie tells Derek they all wanted to take the settlement but didn't since Derek wasn't on board. Eventually, they come together and at the end of the episode, the lawyers meet with all the surviving victims. It's revealed that their lawyers plan to go after Seattle Grace and "the people" that put them on the plane…people like Owen Hunt. So what will Cristina do? That remains to be seen. www.eonline.com/news/363742/grey-s-anatomy-recap-cristina-returns-to-seattle-grace
