Squeeeeee! I loved this episode!
Now... I don't agree it was the Best Ep Ever, like Shonda was waxing it would be. I thought it made for a good, solid winter finale, though. And I seriously didn't expect Bailey to likely have stood up Ben at the alter! I SO did not expect that! I was expecting a big fairy-tale wedding ceremony ala Izzy's wedding, what with Bailey being Shonda's surrogate and all...
Meredith's being told off by Lizzie for her being a crappy sister-in-law? Loved it! And the face Cristina makes when told by Meredith that she was being cruel to April? Priceless!
And I have no complaints over the C/O scenes in this one. I really did not expect to see them reunited in this episode! I was totally expecting to see the divorce go through and then see them begin to find their way back together over a string of future episodes, so I'm a very happy viewer tonight! (I'm just going to be waiting eagerly for COForever's regular Youtube clips, so I sip some hot toddies and re-appreciate the new hot C/O kissyface time... Thank you, Santa Shonda, thank for that long-awaited smooch!)

I found Bailey intolerable in this episode and I usually love her. All I can say about the OC stuff is FINALLY! Kevin and Sandra knocked it out of the park. I actually saw glimmers of the old OC from season 5. In the scrub room scene when Cristina confronts him about the divorce it reminded me of when she confronted him about not remembering her name when he came back from Iraq and he told her about the ambush. I loved seeing that he was actually talking about how he felt and that she was listening to him and finally she is realizing how important it is to be an active participant in a marriage and not just one person giving all the time. The way cristina reacted when Owen took the blame for the crash and told him it wasn't his fault, I did finally see some growth I was hoping to see the last two seasons. We shall see if it sticks around. But Kevin did such a great job in his delivery in that scene, they both did. I tend to prefer when they do the simple scenes that say a lot with few words and more of expression or actions, but on the rare occasion I do enjoy when they have a lot to say because the strong silent type thing gets old sometimes and I think that scene shows how much both of them have changed when you think about the content and their reactions. It's great seeing Cristina being concerned about Owen for once and what he wants, so much of them has been about her the past few years and it almost seemed like Owen was in shock when she asked him about what he thought/wanted. I think the scrub room scene was one of the best OC scenes in a while as well as the conference room loved that they both ran into each other's arms in that scene as if a metaphor that they are really stepping back into it 50-50 and stronger than they have been in years. Hope we get more of them this season now that they seem to be back on track and at full speed ahead.

This was the first episode I watched in real time for a long time, and I'm glad I did. I also saw glimpses of season 5, especially in the scene outside the OR. For the first time in a very, very long time Cristina was displaying empathy for Owen. And in the reconciliation scene, she asked how HE felt and was able to say what SHE felt. This was, finally, real growth.
On other matters, I also was kind of annoyed by Bailey in this episode. I usually like the character but this time I felt she was really over-the-top. Some of the other parts of the episode, like the attendings taking the interns to the wedding as their "dates" were really predictable and kind of silly. And I thought that some of the parts involving Meredith and Derek were more about pandering to the shippers than about real story development. But, overall, I am feeling pretty good about all this right now. This is the first episode in a long time that I will actually rewatch.

Finally the dam has been broken!! No more tortured lookis and misunderstandings. There's a lot to work out, and who knows if it can be, but boy was I happy last night!
I really loved the scenes between Mer and Lizzie. Despite all of the negative noise generated by the sneaks, which I usually avoid, we got some great scenes about chipping away at Mer's walls and getting her to try to be a part of a family. How heartbreaking it was to see Mer so fearful of hope that she couldn't even look at the ultrasound screen.
The Bailey angst is getting old for me. They need to give her something else to do after they have this wedding.
Interns, yuck, just go away. Tired of it. Pretty much April Jackson too.
Loved loeved loved the progression in Callie and Arizona scenes. So much was going on there and I thought the layers of each one's experience were really well done.
And my lovely Cristina and Owen. I don't really get why some people were peeved off that Mer clued Cristina in. She's being supportive of her friend's relationship, she is finally in her corner and accepting what Cristina wants for herself. I would think that would make people cheer. So that confused me, but anyway. That scrub room scene was so awesome. Her face reminded me of the shower scene, where she just takes in the enormity of what he has been holding in for so long.
I felt so bad for Owen in that last scene, where it took her so long to get to the point and open up to what she was feeling, he looked so trapped, like please don't keep asking me to go first! He looked terrified that she would just stomp on him all over again, and then the surprise and relief on his face when he realized what she was saying! So we got an awesome wordy scene with a whole gamut of expository feeling, and then a lovely trademark CO scene that was mostly understated and non-verbal. I wonder which one Kev was referring to when he said someone called it their best work ever? Both were awesome. But I hated the editing of that climactic moment where he comes to kiss her. They first connect off camera . bummer, a tiny bummer, but still...
Now lots of juicy to look forward to!

ITA. I usually find Mer's involvement in Cristina's relationship with Owen annoying and officious, but this time it didn't bother me at all. I think that's because (i) for once, it was well-intended and, as you said, showed her accepting what Cristina wanted for herself instead of telling Cristina to want what Mer wants for her; and (ii) in a back-handed way, I think it showed that Mer and Cris are finally beginning to separate from each other and move toward a more adult relationship, since Mer instantly believed that Cristina was making this divorce decision without sharing the real reasons for it with Mer. Aside from serving the plot purpose of making Cristina understand that Owen didn't really want the divorce, it also IMO showed some baby steps away from the Mer/Cris "person" nonsense that is one of the things I like least on the show.

As most of you said Bailey was annoying. There was too much Jackson and April. And interns. Apart Gaius Charles, I like him!
Now what I've enjoyed…
All CO scenes and especially the one in the scrub room, Cristina speech on Owen's taking a unilateral decision in their marriage made me smile, she used to be the queen of unilateral decisions, it shows how much she has changed. And Owen's speech: "It takes a lot of small mistakes to destroy something and it's really easy for everybody involved just to say "ah, I just did this one small thing."" It was just a summary of their relationship.

It was just a summary of their relationship. Oh! Excellent point! I hadn't thought of it that way, but you are so right! Yeah, Cristina's taking him to task for the unilateral decision... kettle to pot, red alert! I'm hoping we see her realize how hypocritical that was, and how that's the way she's behaved for their entire marriage! I mean... it's not just the abortion and the fleeing to Minnesota, but it's also her buying the house (without consulting him) and her buying their furniture (without consulting him) and opening up their home to a house-warming party (without consulting him)... it leaves you wondering in what domestic matters did she ever turn to Owen and ask for his opinion or preference? (Maybe that's an unfair question on my part, since it's not like a soap opera has TIME to show us those sorts of mundane little things... but still! If my husband just bought a couch (much less an entire house) without asking me for my opinion, I'd be pretty cheesed -- even if I really liked the couch!)

It has to be the scrub room scene. By all accounts it had better writing, directing and, as you pointed out, better editing - I haaaate how they edited the whole conference room scene. It was a poorly done job, from the shot of Cristina closing the door and looking to Owen to the kiss. In fact, it was probably the worst editing in the entire episode.
I adore the scrub room scene, and it is probably one of my favorite Cristina/Owen scenes ever. I love how he doesn’t just let her get away with being rude in the OR and how she is peeved that he didn’t tell her he was divorcing her, among other reasons, because of the lawsuit. I adore how Owen says “People are dead. I thought you were dead” and how he just can’t bring himself to say Lexie and Mark’s names after listing the others. I also love how Cristina just assures him he was not responsible while allowing him to let all that guilty out. That was some of the KmK’s best acting in the show, ever, and the whole scene just showed how great SO and KmK are together – less talented people – or actors with a not so great acting partnership - would just make a face or something and, unintentionally or not, try to steal the scene, while Sandra did her part and let the second part of the scene be Kevin/Owen’s – as it should be and, indeed, it was.
Oh, Cristina angrily throwing that towel, and doing those “menacing” gestures and being “aggressive” only a palm apart from Owen’s face, that is abusive behavior, right? Enquiring minds need to know.

Oh, raachel - I'm SHOCKED that you don't seem to understand that Owen MANIPULATED Cristina into behaving that way. Just like he MANIPULATED her into coming out of a catatonic state days after the plane crash by using the oldest tricks in the book - - kindness, consideration, patience, unconditional love, and a willingness to sacrifice his own interests for hers. I'm surprised you can't see that! All sarcasm aside, it's remarkable how the haters have come back out of their hiding places and attacked Owen again. But really, who cares? Their reactions say more about their issues than about the characters or the actors. I've never been one of those people who really, really, really wanted to see Cristina as a mother, but I'd enjoy it if Shonda makes Cristina change her mind about that because it would be so much fun to hear the screams of anger that would produce from certain viewers. Because people never, ever, ever have different life experiences that make them change their minds about anything, right? That's why we're all wearing the same clothes and listening to the same music we did when we were 12. Right? Sorry - I'll shut up now. TCN!

I didn't see that because I closed my eyes when Owen started face eating Cristina, who was disgusted and forced to kiss him back.

What a gift -- the OC reunited scene. Hand to mouth, I cried tears of joy and relief. I love this couple! +++ I'm so glad to be able to share this emotional breakdown with all of you who also adore KmK. ;D HE'S the dreamy one. Derek who?

Loved the epi. The scrub room scene – one of the best or the best in 4 seasons. I liked it when Cristina’s voice became tender as soon as she realized what he felt about the plane crash. The conference room scene reminded me somehow of the vent scene in 5x24 – it’s about Cristina bringing herself to make a step towards Owen. The way she said „I wanted to try again” the first time (and “I love you, I said I love you, me – Cristina Yang” in 5x24) seemed to me like she was struggling with herself, like she was afraid to say it aloud as it might be too late now and Owen did want a divorce (or it was a strange feeling for her to admit love and an advanced step in a relationship she had never done before).

I may have missed something, do we know why Derek didn't use his own leg to find a nerve?

That's an excellent question. I don't think they addressed it. They talked about impact on lizzie, severe pain for a long time, I think. Guess it would impact his ability to stand and operate?

Sent from my ADR6350 using proboards This storyline has as much sense to me from a medical point of view as Mark's death: meaning None. I would like that some of Shonda's medical experts to give me a logical, medical explanation of why/what exactly Mark died of? Other than dramatical reasons. The first choice in repairing damaged nerve as is in Derek's case are nerve grafts - meaning using part of a nerve from another part of the body which is not as important - to restore the function of the damaged area. In the case they seem to be referring here Derek would only have some numbness to the outside of the foot for a period of time. That is the least of the problem. Recovery and restoring the function to 100% as Derek needs to so that he can operate again, takes a long time.. Till he is able to operate again the other "problem" would have been restored by itself. Nerve transplants - taking part of a nerve from a cadaver or family member are rarely used, unless no other choice. They wanted to bring another member of Derek's family to give a SL for Mer/Der and they used this excuse to bring her. Medically it doesn't make much sense. Just like the lawsuit.

Okay, so I've rewatched "the" scenes a few (or maybe more than a few) times. My excuse was that I was trying to hear Owen say "come here" at some point during the conference room scene, as I know some people have said he does. I still can't hear that, but I don't mind having spent the time trying to!
And I've decided these are my two very most favorite moments in those two all-too-brief scenes:
The scrub room scene: The camera is on Cristina's face when Owen says "It takes a lot of small mistakes to destroy something." (The preceding exchange was Cristina saying "You're not responsible" and Owen responding "Someone has to be.") One of Sandra's many gifts as an actress is how well she listens and reacts, and how much information she can communicate without words, something I particularly notice in her scenes with Kevin. As Owen said the words about lots of small mistakes leading to destruction, I watched Cristina both realize the depth of his pain and guilt AND (maybe I'm projecting here) realize that she made mistakes that contributed to the destruction of their marriage, that SHE needs to be responsible too. It felt like a real turning point. I hope it is, and that we actually get to see that more clearly on screen in more scenes between them.
The conference room scene: When Owen answers her question about his reason for wanting the divorce, he puts the response in terms of her feelings, saying "you were done, a long time ago." So sad. But the part I really really loved was when she says "I'm asking about you." He doesn't answer her in words, but his face says everything. It isn't that he doesn't know what he feels; he knows exactly what he feels for her but he just can't say it out loud, he just can't, yet again, be the one who goes out on a limb and says "of course I still love you, of course I still want you." He's been shot down too many times and he just can't go there again. He looks away then back at her, almost pleading without words "don't make me say it. I can't say it again." And this time she finally gets it, she FINALLY understands that it's not all about Owen's love for her (remember how she set him up for the news she was aborting their child in the S7 finale by saying "How much do you love me?"). If she wants to reach him, if she really wants to try, she needs to let him know how SHE feels. And she does.
Before Thursday night, I would have said (and probably did) that it wasn't possible to recapture the S5 C/O magic, that too much damage had been done. And it will take more than a combined 3 minutes of screen time to make up for all the carnage of the last season and a half. But at least it feels like we and they have made a start!
