Question: Please tell me Cristina's new love interest on Grey's Anatomy (a.k.a. Kevin McKidd) is here to stay! -- Virginia Ausiello: His first episode hasn't even aired yet -- how do you know the two of them are any good together? Have you seen a rough cut of the premiere or something? If so, how 'bout you burn me a copy on the DL? In return, I'll share with you some good news: Although McKidd's status is technically still recurring, I'll be shocked if he isn't made a full-time regular by the end of the season. Shonda Rhimes is apparently doing cartwheels over his work thus far. Literally doing cartwheels. My Grey's mole saw her doing one in the parking lot last Thursday.

Good for Kevin. I do find this a bit ironic however considering some of the early interviews posted on the main site. Kevin didn't sound too impressed with the idea of television in his younger days. I can't say I'm not thrilled to bits however. Grey's is going strong. I really hope he's hooked into a winner that will result in even bigger and better projects in the future.

More suggestions along the same line about Kevin's part being expanded even further: "Grey's will likely upgrade Kevin McKidd to a full-time series regular before the season is out. As I mentioned in this week's Ask Ausiello, the ex-Journeyman, who debuts in the Sept. 25 season premiere as a former Iraq doc with eyes for Cristina, is winning everyone over on the Grey's set. Question: Do you have any inside info on what season 5 of Grey's Anatomy holds for Izzie and Alex? Their chemistry is great. -- Traci Ausiello: Let's just say you'll have a really good idea where these two are headed by the end of the two-hour opener on Sept. 25 -- which, BTW, I just watched and really enjoyed. Turns out Kevin McKidd is all that and a bag of chips.

Kevin McKidd, "Owen Hunt" On being asked to join the show "I love the idea of this army surgeon coming in... I'd be honored to be a part of this show." www.abcmedianet.com/web/showpage/showpage.aspx?type=asset&global_id=sb17885&typecode=sb&scope=E&css=default_display_gray.css&leftcol=radiocredit : abc soundbite 6 Modified to add transcript I love the idea of this army surgeon coming on to the show and kind of doing things in an unorthodox way you know he has his own methods and,... he's picked up in the field .... on the battle front .... in a warzone essentially and it just seemed like a complexed interesting character to add into show .... and then I sat down and started watching the show and then became addicted I became like a fan watching the show from season one I was like wow this show is really great you know, I never caught the show before because I had been working or out of the country and ....so yeah then they called me back and said look they want you to do it if you're still into it I was like of course absolutely I would be honored to be apart of the show

According to the radio soundbite from Sandra Oh, Kevin is going to be a trauma surgeon. She also says that he will be on the show for an indefinite amount of time. www.abcmedianet.com/web/showpage/showpage.aspx?type=asset&global_id=sb17885&typecode=sb&scope=E&css=default_display_gray.css&leftcol=radioSoundbite 3 Modified to add the transcript. Sandra says: Kevin Mckidd is joining the cast for an indefinite amount of time. And he comes on as sergeant Owen Hunt who is a trauma surgeon in the army. And he has quite a wonderful entrance. Very dramatic entrance. And it's lovely because we have a couple of scenes that might spark something larger. But it's a kind of a meeting of minds. What I really like about Kevin's character, at least at this point is, he has this whole sense of responsibility and Cristina doesn't necessarily. Like really being responsible about all your actions and not being only...maybe so self-centered or specifically...narrowminded about stuff. He's wonderful to be working with. He scoops me up. Strong guy. He scoops me up and it's very very romantic.

Grey's Anatomy' adds McHunky to start fifth season Wednesday, September 24, 2008 McDreamy and McSteamy, make way for McHunky. That's right. There's a new doctor operating on "Grey's Anatomy," the ABC hospital drama that begins its fifth season with a two-hour episode at 9 p.m. Thursday on WEWS Channel 5. And the new cast member actually has a last name that Mc-fits the "Grey's" Mc-nickname pattern for its so-called "studs in scrubs" characters. Scottish actor Kevin McKidd, best known for his star turns on HBO's "Rome" and NBC's short-lived "Journeyman," makes his first appearance Thursday night as U.S. Army surgeon Owen Hunter. This will be at least an 11-episode tour of duty for Hunter, but if the drama-and-trauma character catches fire with the fans, look for McKidd to become a regular with stars Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl, Chandra Wilson, Patrick Dempsey and Cleveland native James Pickens Jr. What won't change, promises executive producer Shonda Rhimes, is her hit show's blend of life-and-death drama, soap-opera romance and quirky humor. "I feel like the humor that came out of Grey's' came because we were dealing with such serious situations, and people do use gallows humor a lot of the time," said Rhimes, also the series' creator and head writer. "Creating that funny underbelly to what was going on in the serious situations is what made the show feel more like real life than just a drama where everything was serious." While McKidd will be injecting intriguing new elements into the Seattle Grace mix, Heigl, who plays Isobel "Izzie" Stevens, provided one of last season's most dramatic moments for "Grey's Anatomy." Unfortunately for Rhimes, this happened away from the set. Heigl, an Emmy winner for "Grey's Anatomy" in September 2007, made headlines by griping about not being given any material last season worthy of submission for Sunday's prime-time Emmy awards. This is not the kind of drama a top-10 drama show needs, and the man in charge wasn't happy. "I think it's unfortunate when there's any kind of turmoil on a show," said Stephen McPherson, ABC's entertainment president. "There are so many people who work so unbelievably hard to make that show . . . and I never like to see when any of them are in any way taken lightly." With Heigl's film "Knocked Up" a box-office hit, some saw her comments as a ploy to push through a resignation from the hospital staff. "She's absolutely staying with the show," McPherson said. "There's an unbelievable story line for her this year, which is really central to everything that's going to go on this season. We're really excited about that." Rhimes, busy running both "Grey's Anatomy" and the spinoff series "Private Practice," is just eager to put the Heigl headlines in the rearview mirror. "I have to say that my reaction was that I found it surprising," Rhimes said. "I actually have a really wonderful working relationship with Katherine, and I love and respect her as an actress, and, as everyone knows, Izzie is one of my favorite characters." She was not insulted, Rhimes said. She hardly has time to be insulted. "At the end of every day, I sort of sit down and think, OK, I got through that one, now let's get to the next one,'" Rhimes said. "I mean, I really wish for a clone. A clone would be awesome." www.cleveland.com/entertainment/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/entertainment-0/1222245099280750.xml&coll=2

'GREY' EXPECTATIONS MEDICAL DRAMA HAS FOUND ITS MOJO AGAIN IS it real or is it a metaphor? That's what you'll be asking yourself tonight when "Grey's Anatomy" returns. If you remember (and maybe it's best if you don't), the show last year took a turn for the worse. It went from being one of the best dramas on TV to plots as low rent as a bad daytime soap. Tonight, through the miracle of modern medicine, the show comes roaring back with a plot that includes the, er, trauma of Seattle Grace Hospital being downgraded from the number two facility in the state to the number 12. And while "Grey's" itself never lost its lofty position in the Nielsen top 10, it did lose its position as TV's top-ranked show. Like the docs at Seattle Grace, the "Grey's" cast needs to work its butt off to win back its fans. Tonight's two-hour episode is chock-a-block with drama, trauma, guest stars who give Emmy-worthy one-shot performances and one of the sexiest non-sex scenes on TV in years. Not to give anything away but Sandra Oh is the luckiest woman on TV. The show begins with the news of the lower rating. Chief Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) is not, repeat, not a happy man. As a big ice storm rages outside, the ER is exceptionally quiet - because the community has lost confidence in them. The near-dead traumas are heading to the competition. The docs find themselves praying for just one tragedy to come their way. God (or perhaps Satan) answers their prayers and three women in ball gowns (Bernadette Peters, Mariette Hartley and Kathy Baker) come careening up in a limo with Peters at the wheel. The limo driver is near dead. The husbands, who took another limo so they could smoke their cigars in peace, are nowhere to be found. Over the police radio comes word that three men have also been injured in a separate limo crash. Dr. Bailey actually finds a way to hijack the men and the trauma drama begins. One of them has a ballpoint pen stuck in as a tracheotomy. Enter Major Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), a military field surgeon who, we find out, stopped at the accident scene and inserted the pen. I mean, who doesn't love a man in uniform who also happens to have an extra ball point pen? The only shortcoming to an otherwise terrific show is Grey (Ellen Pompeo) herself. This character has become so single-minded (no pun intended) that all she thinks about/ talks about/ cares about is her relationship with McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey). People are bleeding, dropping dead and losing the use of their limbs and she keeps talking about her relationship. Here's an Rx for Dr. Grey, no insurance needed: Shut up! Grey's Anatomy: Toss out the romance novels, girls. We've got a visual. And it isn't MerDer. Now that Burke the jerk has taken a flyer, it's the right moment for Cristina Yang to have a little sizzle-time. And it's enough to blow the H right out of the HDTV. Kevin McKidd (Journeyman) pops up in his cammies as Owen Hunt, a soldier right off the front in Iraq, ready to make a full assault on Yang. There's still plenty of more Meredith babbling about should she or shouldn't she stick with Derek. Time to pass the D, and on with the Hunt. credit : www.film.com
