I would toss onto the list:
- The scene in the oncall room where Cristina wakes up Owen.
- The scene where Beth first discovers Owen works at Seattle Grace.
- The scene where Owen tells Beth about her father's cancer.
- The scene in the CT room where Owen tries to talk to Cristina about her reaction to Dr. Campbell.
- The scene between Owen and Campbell in the scrub room.
As for which are my favorites of those you and I have listed... Gods, so hard to choose really. I love several of them for very different reasons.
The Shower Scene: Watching Kevin tell Owen's story was mesmerizing. The look in his eyes was completely blank. Like he really was somewhere else. The tone and words delivered perfectly to pull the nurturing part of Cristina-and the viewer-out as the horror of those moments truly sank in.
The Panic Attack: Simply wrenching. I still get a clench in my chest when I watch that scene. It is so visceral, strikes a cord with anyone who has ever loved someone that much and wanted to help so badly but not known how/where to start.
The chat on the steps of Cristina's apartment: So much said with so few words. Her level of understanding vs his need to be honest and not quite able to apologize for the monster that lives inside of him. "I think you're beautiful." says so much.
The kiss outside of Joe's Bar: Desperation and pain surging up and out of control. Amazing how it evolves into a passionate kiss that takes both characters by surprise. Sandra gets as much credit as Kevin for walking the fine line between fear and understanding.
The See Me scene: Again, wrenching because of the way Kevin delivers his lines. Tears are so close to the surface, in his eyes and in his voice. He holds that level of pain in check and channels into a heartfelt plea to be understood.
The scene where Beth first discovers Owen works at Seattle Grace: Because this is the true clash of Before and After. Owen runs away from this confrontation and has a panic attack in the previous epsode. Maybe because the attack has happened and Cristina is watching he is able to stand his ground. The look of utter anguish on his face when Beth grabs Owen says so much about who he was in contrast to who he has become. He hates himself for what he cannot change. For hurting her so badly and not being able to explain.
The scene in the CT room where Owen tries to talk to Cristina about her reaction to Dr. Campbell: Owen is a teacher. That is part of who he was Before and is in the After. He is finally able to be that person again in this scene. There is a great deal of patience and understanding when dealing with Cristina. The desire to make her see what is obvious to Owen because of his experiences.
The scene in the oncall room where Cristina wakes up Owen: Because this is such a clear indication of how attracted the two of them are to one another. It's fun and sexy without being smaltzy. Owen is succinct in his statements. He knows what he likes and he knows what affect it will have if he says as much. The chemistry between Sandra and Kevin just lights up the screen.
The 40 years scene: Three things stand out here. The fact that Owen is brave enough to sit in the open and talk to Cristina. The fact that he can actually talk about something personal without stuttering to a stop or having to fight to control his emotions. And the idea that he is looking towards the future. The implication of the line "You're missing the point, I want to be around in 40 years." is that he wants to be around Cristina. I think it's more than that. For the first time since he returned from Iraq Owen is thinking about the future. Maybe he will be able to stand on his own and move forward even if things don't work out between them.
Sorry if that was more than you were looking for Leanne.

I'm now beginning to wait with bated breath for the last seconds of C/O in each episode, because it's either gut-wrenching (shower/see me) or sweetly emotional (you're beautiful/40 years), and always superbly acted and thought-provoking.
As for my favorite, if I go by my natural reaction of a vocalized "AWWWWWW", it has to be Owen fast asleep across Cristina's body in the on-call room, and her response to Meredith of "Shhh", gesturing to Owen as if he were a fractious child now calmly at rest. Kevin didn't do much "acting" in the scene, but the way he looked so completely relaxed into perhaps his first good sleep in a long time, and how he clutched Cristina like a security blanket, melted my heart.

Good points about those last few moments of O/C. A major AWWWW from me as well regarding Owen sleeping on Cristina.

It's so hard to pick. Well said Leanne, Rural, and Rose. I second each comment listed above. I too am either gut-wrenched, teary, maternal, elated, shocked, or *ahem* during every performance. Whether dramatic or subtle his performances are stunning and so incredibly captivating. I'm drained after each hour I ride along with Owen on his emotional roller coaster.

Well, I'd like to add
the first "So"
and one that is very close to my heart: the Vulture scene. I found that scene extremely moving.
I don't know if you guys noticed the first time we see him at Joe's just before he starts working at SGH, but I thought that he looked totally different from the SP already. He looked lost. And I thought "Ok. He got screwed up over there. Let's see how they're going to play that out."
To me the Vulture scene showed exactly how people who have lived traumatizing events try very hard to contend their anger around "normal" people who get bothered by or fight over insignificant things, or can treat others like garbage without showing any value to human life. I loved that scene. I've been watching a hundred times. The end, when he finally lowers his voice and tell them to get out...God. Wow.
But yeah, it's definitely hard to choose a best Owen scene. The thing is, some of them move me the same way each time I watch them, such as the Vulture scene the panic attack (actually, only from the part where his look changes when he sees Beth to when Cris tries to hold him) and his first conversation with Beth. The "I think you're beautiful scene" was great... I love the shower scene, but I don't feel the same way about it compared to the first times I watched it.
And for happy scenes, the vent, his smile when Cristina hits on him while putting her hair up and the 40 years scene.
I think that I'm going to watch all the O/C recaps in a row during the summer. Or all the eps for that matter, just to have the anticipation for the O/C scenes.
And rural you described the scenes perfectly, so I won't go into that, but I realize that the details you focused on are totally different from mine: for the panic attack scene, I didn't really pay attention to Cristina's feeling. I was more identifying to him.
And when he finally meets Beth, the part that wrenched me was when she mentioned his mum and he shot that look at cristina, and finally when she started saying "you're back", I felt like his eyes were telling her "no I'm not" (all I know is that I HEAR that each time I watch it)
And I had an AWWW for the 40 years scene, but not for the sleeping on Cris scene, and you know why? BECAUSE I RESISTED THE SPOILERS FOR THAT EP! I didn't go online to read the comments while everyone was watching while I was waiting for a website to make it available.

Ah the beauty of personal interpretation agneskenya. Everyone brings their personal baggage to the viewing experience so we never see the same things. Love that.
You make some great points about the "Vulture" scene. I did love that bit. It was the first really obvious indication to someone besides Cristina that Owen isn't really in control. Normal isn't normal for him. Agreed about the scene with Beth too.

It's really hard to choose. I mean, each scene has its own moment that other scenes lack.
And does it has to be an O/C scene, because if I really needs to choose a scene that I like most, it will be the scene when Owen talks to the homeless guy, since you can see how Owen realizes that this guy in front of him might be his future. This always strucks me to imagine your future is sitting/lying right in front of you.
And look at Kevin's eyes, his expression of fear, with the complexity of uneasiness, anxiety, uncertainty, and doubt. It's brilliant acting!

The Timothy Miller character is a big part of why he later snaps in the alley with Cristina. He knows where he's going if he doesn't let someone in. "I don't need you!" could not be more opposite of the truth.

I have gone mostly unspoiled for the last couple of episodes, other than the general stuff that's everywhere--avoiding the O/C sneak peaks and all the boards until I have watched the episode (I have to DVR and watch after work). After the on-call room/sleep ending caught me totally by surprise, I realized that those final O/C moments are so special that I want to enjoy the buildup during the episode and BE surprised at where it ends up.
The "I want to be around in 40 years" had a lot of impact because I realized he was talking about the future AND his future with Cristina.
When I rewatch episodes, I find myself focusing on Owen's actions and facial expressions, because even when he's not the center of the scene, he's so completely in character and doing something worth watching.

I used to be rigid about avoiding spoilers. I've gotten pretty pathetic in regards to GA. i'm glad there wasn't much around for this last episode. That last scene in the bar was a lovely surprise, as was the 'teaching' scene in the CT scan room. I do the same in regards to my rewatches. I love the over the shoulder shots that let us see what Kevin is doing when he reacts to Sandra's dialogue and the same for her.

I think my favorite in terms of acting style is in the slow-mo scene with Cristina in 5x14 when he is walking towards her and see's Beth get out of the elevator. You see such a dramatic switch in emotion in Owen's face in a split second. He goes from total bliss, to fear and panic in such a short amount of time. If it was at regular pace it would not have the same impact, but the way that Kevin delivers that moment is just so heartbreaking and memorable it will live in my heart for a long time.
I also love the date/shower scenes, Owen's desperation and combination of him trying so hard to still be that guy for Cristina was so tragic. It really makes you realize how messed up Owen is, if you hadn't before that point. And how Cristina reacts to him in the shower scene is just powerful.

I love all the comments!
And I, for one, simply cannot choose. Anytime he's on screen or they are on screen together I am just blown away--even if there's nothing but a glance exchanged. I do have a fondness for the sleeping on Cristina scene, and the one episode I bought from iTunes this season was the two hour season premier, so I guess all of those interactions in those first two episodes are among my top favorites.

It's difficult to choose and Rural, I agree with everything you said about the scenes.
But if I had to pick a favourite Owen scene, then it's the shower scene just because it was so powerful and Kevin really did play it so well. It broke my heart like nothing else on television ever has (that I can think of). It just felt so real.
In terms of Owen and Cristina scenes, I have alot of favourites (including all the kiss scenes) but I think my absolute favourite is probably the "see me" scene because it was so true and both actors sold it so well in very few words and just a few glances. There was an emotional intimacy there without anything physical and that's what really hit me.

Alison Kraus: "You say it best when you say nothing at all."
Owen and Cristina connect emotionally like very few couples on television ever have. I love what can be done with just a glance. These two rarely touch one another so each instance means so much more than a simple sex scene could possible convey.

I totally agree with you, on the shower scene its one of the more powerful scenes ever on grey's, i'd even go so far and say it will be iconic. Sandra and Kevin are brilliant in even the most minmal of screentime they have but when they get good drama, they both really deliver.

Did anyone mention the scene in "These Ties That Bind" when Owen comes up behind Christina and ties her apron for her? Love it! Also in "In the Midnight Hour" at the beginning of the episode when she walks in and he's waiting for the ambulance and he asks her, "Are you here for me?" OMG the eagerness in his face and his slightly shy behavior is so cute! Kevin conveys so well the fact that Owen is already falling for her. I also love ALL the moments that everyone else has mentioned!
