Cruising With John Mayer At The VH1 Save the Music Foundation

"You're a very well-dressed crowd," joked singer Gavin Rossdale as he took the stage onboard the Carnival Splendor cruise ship docked at the port of San Pedro in Los Angeles, as one of the headliners for the VH1 Save the Music Foundation's "One Splendid Evening" charity concert held on Thursday, March 26. He left his fashion designer-rocker wife Gwen Stefani at home with their kids, since he was simply singing two songs and heading off the ship, unlike headliner John Mayer, who used the event as the launch of his second annual "Mayercraft Carrier 2."
That's a four-day cruise to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and most of the adoring audience was along for the full ride, not just the evening's benefit concert. Mayer gave the people what they wanted, singing four songs, then bringing out "American Idol" star Jordin Sparks, who sang a couple more.
Earlier, as rapper Eve and "Grey's Anatomy" star Kevin McKidd looked on, Sarah Bareilles offered up a beautiful version of her hit "Love Song," the bands Guster and O.A.R. did two tunes each, and singer-songwriter Erin McCarley giggled that she felt "a lot of love in this room."
Mayer, who sang a new song called "Half of My Heart" that seemed to pointedly refer to his now-defunct relationship with Jennifer Aniston, has clearly moved on, as he welcomed the cruising audience to join him whenever they spot him onboard during the cruise.
"I'm working hard on a new album," he revealed. "So if you see me in the halls at 3 a.m., don't be surprised. I'm psyched. And I am here for you. I want to be your bartender, your life coach, your stereo."
