To me it just says that they have nowhere interesting to put teddy except in the middle of OC problems. I hope Cristina gets a great teacher after this, she needs one that can keep up with her. I think the main problem is Teddy may be good in the OR but she is not an academic therefore she does not keep up with innovative procedures and they are not in her comfort zone. She's basically turned into the dinosaur like Dr. Campbell. She's jealous of Cristina because Cristina has it all at this point the amazing future in medicine, and a loving husband. The thing Teddy has control over is cristina's future in medicine and that's where she has chosen to focus her fury. With Burke, Cristina had professional competition, but he used their personal relationship to save his career. Last season Teddy and Cristina had personal competition for Owen, this year I guess its more of a professional one. Not that interesting to me, but its too bad Owen is gonig to be caught in the middle again. I think he'll be faced with the challenge of having to choose his wife and her career over keeping a friend. I think your probably right, it annoys me that after so many failed attempts in making this character a hit, they are going back to putting her once again in the middle of the couple that started this in the first place. I am confident its all career based and nothing triangle related - however it does not dispute the fact that they are downgrading their storyline to service her. To me its like the writers have Teddy as the focus here, and then CO are the instruments in her storyline. They should be doing bigger and better things with their own problems/issues. I mean its the same scenario Owen caught in the middle of the two of them, I mean they can't keep doing this - at some point they have to do something new with them. They need to stop promoting the three of them as a function for a storyline and explore new territory beyond Teddy. The thing I love most about CO is that they have a massive storyline potential, the writers have hundreds of options as to what to with them and they would all be interesting, unlike MD per say who are backed into a corner and have no other SL forward except children. But they have not tapped into much of what they could do with CO, Season 5 was really just scratching the surface , its all about how it fits in with what all the other characters are doing and how it suits them, and I wish they would set them apart and consider what can be done with just the two of them

'Grey's Anatomy' Spoilers : Name of Callie's Baby Revealed and More
Grey's Anatomy has definitely made a strong and powerful comeback in season seven. Even with the musical episode throwing in something a bit different into the mix. Sara Ramirez has become the star of the show in season seven, but every character has had their moment to shine this season. It should be interesting to see what happens next. entertainment.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474979208042 Sara Ramirez has become the star? Nice to know, i guess they won't call it Grey's anymore, but it does go to show that Grey's is nothing like it used to be. I'm hoping for more of the originals in the last eps and their counter parts, but can't say I'll be interested enough if that doesn't pick up.

I am glad that they finally gave Callie a central story, I am simply not to attracted to the C/A/M dynamics. Callie and Arizona are completely different characters now. It seems to me too much change to try to accommodate to whatever idea the writers try to push now. Or my concept of "growing" is different from the writers LOL It seems we will see also some Mer/Der and Alex in the next episodes. I only hope they don't go the route of Mer stealing files from the trial or anything like this, cause I am a little tired of anybody doing whatever they want without consequences. Can't wait to see Alex in full pediatrics doctor mode. Love him! And we still have several arcs to solve with Owen , so crossing my fingers for interesting scenes with Kevin

I find CAM really boring, I mean I like Callie and I like Mark, but the whole thing is way too contrived for me to buy it.

Since the SF is supposed to focus on Meredith, Cristina and Alex, I hope this turns out to be true because I am also wearing thin of the CAM story. Is it wrong that I am only looking forward to seeing what Cristina and Owen are wearing at the C/A wedding (they always look so lovely in the outside scenes) and hoping they are not fighting so they can look lovingly at each other remembering their special day. OR If they are fighting a bit, they can't resist each other and have a passionate love scene which might result in the explosive cliffhanger for C/O. Anyhoo... Some possibilities on what happens to the FAB THREE: Meredith- M/D try to foster or adopt a baby. Some are still thinking she might become pregnant too or instead. Thinking she is probably out of the race for CR. Alex- Still would love for him to be CR. I read that RT/Lucy will be back. I wonder how their love story will wrap up or if that will be left uncertain based on if RT's show gets picked up for the fall. Cristina-If Owen does not choose Cristina for CR, she could get pretty upset depending on how he makes the decision. I hope that it comes across as fair and not some OOC nonsense where Owen becomes the bad guy again. Do not see Cristina breaking up with Owen over this though if it is someone else. I guess she might want to take a break to focus on her career which I hope doesn't happen either. I kinda would like to see Owen choose Cristina as CR and see how it plays out from there. Not because Cristina would necessarily be the best at it but she is as deserving as the others. Shonda keeps saying how amazing Cristina is now as a well rounded surgeon after her trauma. Whichever way it goes for Cristina and Owen, I just want some good C/O scenes the last 4 episodes where SO and KMK can act their hearts out.

I am mostly hopeful about Owen and Cristina. So, therefore I will concentrate on what I hope to see for them.
I think we're seeing Owen as a healed man these days, someone whose past is a part of him but has been integrated into who he is in the After/Present/building a Future phase of his life. He is no longer defined by his PTSD nor as simply Cristina's boyfriend/husband. He is stepping into his own as a leader at the hospital, being relied upon by Webber, and becoming friends with Derek and Mark. All positive trends which I think will be continued.
Asking him to select chief resident is an intentional roadblock in his relationship with Cristina so, as a plot device I could have done without it. Yet seeing it as recognition of his innate teaching style and, perhaps, seeing it as a precursor to him being asked to step in as acting chief when Webber steps back to care for Adele is something I could see.
Additionally, personally he is able to show a new side of himself with Cristina. He can be both her husband who loves her and wants to unhesitatingly build a life with her and state his own needs. And as Cristina's growth arc continues alongside his own, he can be there to both open himself up to her and request the same in return from Cristina.
Cristina, meanwhile, is moving forward in ways we thought we'd never see. In a season in which she both stepped determinedly into her marriage with Owen and stepped away from her overarching career drive she has shown an unexpected depth of emotion. She has shown she is a more compassionate friend and lover with Owen and become a more compassionate doctor and emerging teacher as well. She has faced roadblocks, i.e. yet another fork in the road of her friendship with Meredith, and been stymied by them but also approached that friendship with emerging sensitivity regarding Meredith's fertility struggles.
Yet she is on a path similar to Owen's after he stopped therapy in S.6. She's largely healed from her experience in last season's SF yet is still not quite sure how to step into this future she's begun creating for herself. Being a wife is something she wants but it is challenging for her to broaden her singular vision after having spent so much of her life taking care of herself. And this is especially true as she now faces having regained her professional footing and having the option to see what comes next in this well-known arena alongside the lesser known arena of trusting her own heart in her relationship with Owen.
So - since work and life balance has been an issue on Cristina's plate since S.1 I'm sure she will focus intently on not being on cardio and the race for chief resident. I find it unlikely Owen will select her for the job and Cristina will be frustrated but will eventually understand Owen's decision as she knows he is the least biased person at SGH. It will be that same lack of bias which will lead Owen to staying out of the dispute between Cristina and Teddy except for telling Cristina to make her own decisions and to be sure she wants to stand behind those decisions while also, perhaps, asking Teddy what's up with her decision-making process.
Owen will be able to draw clear lines around his relationship with Cristina, to shore up all the times he has already done so, and will be the person who knows Teddy enough to nudge her about Henry because Arizona will be too busy with wedding plans and becoming a mom.
I also think this plot is how Teddy makes peace with Cristina's emerging skills and becomes more a colleague/teacher and uses this peace-making as her excuse to stay in Seattle when Dr. McTree asks her to leave town with him. It will also be how Cristina makes peace with what she knows and what she still needs to learn to become an amazing surgeon and how chief resident really wasn't what she wanted in her hunger to learn, thereby neutralizing both supposed career obstacles and any remaining triangular detritus into S.8.
And the SF will be the time the subject of babies intermingles with surprising positions for Cristina as she finds out she's pregnant just as she and Owen are coming back onto more solid ground after the workplace drama. We'll likely be left wondering how they will deal with this idea until next season.

"The finale is going to shock a lot of people," she says. "There's a lot of emotional stuff that happens between the characters that you love and the relationships that you love, that's going to turn things on its head. And something happens to my character that will change her future, for the next several seasons. It's very emotionally centered and emotionally grounded. It's not a big external thing that makes everybody freak out, but a lot of different characters are affected in this moment." I don't usually post in this thread, but reading the recent spoilers and everyone else's posts has got me thinking. So . . .
I think we'll get more nuanced insight into C/O and their relationship from our own speculations then we're likely to get from the GA writers. Just look (based on past episodes and recent spoilers) at what they have to deal with in the next 4 episodes (which total all of 168 minutes once you subtract the commercials):
1. Callie's baby is still critically ill, and Callie has to recover herself from life threatening injuries (a process which, I concede, never takes very long on Grey's but should still require substantial attention for at least one episode);
2. Callie and Arizona are getting married and, since TPTB have gone to the trouble of actually hiring two full sets of parents to come to the wedding, you know that will take up alot of time;
3. Teddy's shrink boyfriend is coming back, and Henry will be around as well, so that's going to have to get some attention;
4. Poor Adele has Alzheimer's;
5. We know that Alex's ob/gyn squeeze will be back for the last few episodes, so that will have to be given some screen time;
6. Derek is still doing his Alzheimer's trial;
7. The Chief is busy curing diabetes;
8. Oh yes, wasn't there a couple trying to get pregnant? Derek and Meredith, wasn't it? If they, as has been speculated, start heading in the direction of adoption, that's a whole other area to be explored.
9. Lexie and Jackson are still an item - - presumably, given the heavy anvils dropped in the last episode about how she is not over Mark, there will be some triangular aspects of that being explored.
10. We just found out from Sarah Drew that there will be some April/Stark stuff in the last few episodes as well.
11. Bailey still has her Eli thing going - - that may get at least a nod or two between now and the end of the season.
12. Someone is supposedly going to be picked for Chief Resident (more about that later) and the tension it creates between the residents will have to be addressed.
Note please that we're up to TWELVE plot lines, and we haven't even mentioned Cristina and Owen (except indirectly, in connection with the Chief Resident decision). On that front, we have:
1. Teddy's "I can't teach you" tantrum, and the fall out from that, given Owen's marriage to Cristina and his friendship with Teddy.
2. The Chief Resident race, but this time from the perspective of how it might effect Owen and Cristina because he is making the choice (a very silly piece of manufactured angst, IMO, since in any other world his marriage to Cristina would have disqualified him completely).
3. The baby discussion, so dramatically brought up out of nowhere in 7.16, and just as suggestively dropped entirely afterward.
Have I forgotten anything? And, finally, let's keep in mind even when a story line involves Cristina, we don't necessarily see a lot of Owen or of Owen and Cristina together. Cristina's PTSD story line was a major part of the first 11 episodes, but it was Derek, not Owen, who we saw (on screen at least) helping her through it. At least they didn't trash Owen again (as they did in Season 6) by making him oblivious to her issues, but they also didn't use the story line as a way to reinforce the connection between C and O. It became an opportunity for Derek rather than Owen to be the hero.
So, my expectations for the next 168 minutes is that very, very few of them will be devoted to the couple who are my primary reason for watching this show. In this spoiler speculation thread, I will say, however, that I'm still leaning toward the idea that the "explosive" moment for Cristina at the end of the SF will be a positive pregnancy test, which she will greet with absolute horror and a threat to get an abortion. It's hard to believe that Shonda would have Cristina go through with terminating this pregnancy - - it would do too much damage both to the relationship and to Cristina as a character. And Shonda has enjoyed contrasting Cristina's relationship with Owen with her relationship with Burke - putting the two couples in similar situations and showing how differently they deal with those situations. Cristina WAS going to terminate the Burke pregnancy; she was showing no signs of doubt when fate/the writers intervened and caused the miscarriage. If the pattern holds, she would ultimately make a different decision about a child she conceived with Owen.
But Shonda may leave us speculating about that for the summer. If she wants us to think that Cristina and Owen's marriage is at risk, about the only thing I can think of that might actually rip it apart is if Cristina aborted Owen's child. JHMO.

ooh nice post Hopew looking at your point 12 Im wondering could this be April ... would that be what happens to her that sets all off on an emotional ride and a shock at that certainly would upset the apple cart enough for us to chew on over the Hiatus Im also wondering that we might get a parting hint of an O/C pregnancy BUT the findings are only revealed in S8 Premiere (that might just be way to cruel ;D)

Oh goodness knows how I love a Hope rant! Yay! Oh, and get out of my brain again lady. I was trying to do a mental tally this morning on my way to work of what storylines are all coming to a head in these next few episodes. You've delineated it quite nicely. I'm kind of the mindset that we'll see Cristina with a pregnancy test in the last few moments of the SF. If we're lucky we'll see Owen walk in and see her looking at it. I don't imagine we'll get far enough for Cristina to voice an opinion about whether she feels ready to go forward with the pregnancy until next season. Though I do believe you're absolutely right that this will be in contrast to her previous pregnancy in terms of her making a different decision this time around. I think this will be where Cristina's tremendous growth will come in and it will be explosive, that's for sure. After a few episodes of watching Owen and Cristina tense and fighting we'll be left interpreting what Cristina might do just as we spent last summer interpreting the passionate look between Owen and Cristina in that OR.

Okay - who didn't see this coming? I imagine we see Cristina becoming 'defiant' about workplace opportunities shriveling up at precisely the time she feels ready to step into them. And how ridiculous, and drama for the sake of drama, would it be to watch Owen 'interview' his wife for the job of chief resident? Amended to add I wonder if Cristina will withdraw from consideration for the job - harkening back to when Owen first told her he was choosing CR and she said he can't give it to her because everyone will think she got it because she's his wife. She wouldn't be able to stand that after working so hard all her professional life, and the most recent months to be back at work, if that's what her efforts are reduced to by others. So if she can't work in her specialty area and she maybe withdraws from CR contention, what else will be in the wings for her story and her story with Owen? Though I must admit, I hope someone puts around larger versions of some of those photos of Owen and Cristina at the bar soon. Even if they force us to see Cristina warmly and sexily greeting her husband at Joe's and the way he leans into her to return the kiss as the precursor to her finding out about the CR interviews, the photos are still lovely. I still think this is overall about how Cristina and Owen hang together during these sorts of challenges but one can see how very complicated and snarled up it will become. Oy.

I've really enjoyed reading everyone's posts here and the speculation for the rest of the season. Here is my question, and maybe one of you who are smarter than I am can answer...why would Cristina all of a sudden be so concerned about what people thought if she got Chief Resident by Owen picking her? After the whole Tremorgate thing and Colin Marlowe showing up at the hospital, she has already been put in a position where people could think that she got something because of who was with at the time (surgeries from Burke, mentoring or or maybe something with her classes from Colin) and it was even addressed when Erica Hahn first came to the cast full time. I think Cristina at the time was offended but she didn't put much stock in it and told Hahn in no uncertain terms how she earned her right to be there. So...I guess I'm confused why it would be such a huge deal if Owen picked her now.
Also, was there any indication on the show that Cristina ever really wanted Chief Resident all that badly? I understand it's a contest...but the writers blog from a few weeks back said that nothing would get in the way of her dream or something along those lines. It seemed to not be a big a priority to her as being in the OR, but maybe I missed something.
I am concerned about Cristina being 'defiant'...I hope it's at work and not towards Owen as his wife. Those pictures make me think that something either went badly between them at work or is going to go bad for them at work. I hope that we get a few moments of sweetness and happy-married-couple scenes between Owen and Cristina before the season ends. :/

The pics look like make up kisses to me though, so who knows. I think maybe he tries to make her feel better and tries to get her to at least apply and she refuses because she knows she won't have a chance.

I think maybe he tries to make her feel better and tries to get her to at least apply and she refuses because she knows she won't have a chance. I like that interpretation, nicely done you! I was trying to figure out the sequence - between the photos of Cristina sitting with Alex and he's got two empty shot glasses in front of him and one half empty in his hand. In some of them he looks glum, and in one of them April is sitting on the other side of him. In all of the photos Cristina is sitting around the other corner of the bar from Alex, in a couple of them, prior to Owen's appearance perhaps?, she looks contemplative. In this episode we have both Owen conducting CR interviews and a seeming test for Alex' relationship with Lucy. We know she's off filming a pilot for another show so...they could be commiserating with him about either situation. And then Owen shows up and he's talking animatedly with Alex and in one of the photos Owen has papers in his hand and in front of him on the bar...like CR evaluation forms? Oh, and the in some of the photos Owen's curled around Cristina while she's curled around him, a hand in her hair and the other around her back while Cristina's hands go from his chest and the back of his neck up to his face for their big, sloppy kiss. Squee. So...it could be they've had a day in which the stresses everyone describes are getting to the residents so some of them have gone to Joe's to drink to their sorrow. And Cristina's lovely husband, and yes the decider of CR, goes to the bar to meet his lovely bride and delivers a pep talk...to which Cristina, increasingly defiant Cristina (more on that later,) responds...getting the 'what will you have' aspect of the story as we head into the SF. Oh, and yes I'm fully aware this is simply idle exploration of story and it will turn out to be a lot unlike this, but that's what the speculation thread is for during hiatus, isn't it? Oh, and the 'increasingly defiant' Cristina is going to occur mostly around her workplace conflict, I'm going to guess. I think her thirsting after CR has been more about the post-merger striving for surgery, any surgery, as a counterpoint to that situation in which Cristina figured out that grasping for work that wasn't meaningful to her was wasted action. And as she makes peace with that process, guessing in the SF, she will make peace with the cardio situation too, showing her tremendous and surprising growth. (A girl can dream.) Which will lead to a 'life changing' situation for Owen and Cristina in that episode - and it would likely be too subtle a 'life changing' experience for her to simply put on her wedding ring again...though I would like that too...so another guess is still a positive pregnancy test stick in her hand. Not sure if that's the best thing but if they're again paralleling the personal and work stress levels of Meredith and Cristina and there's all that Meredith adoption talk out there, well ET and Elliot might just have that major joy and conflict ahead of them too as Owen and Cristina step into what a pregnancy might mean for their relationship.

I could see Owen doing all the interviews, realizing that Cristina is right for the position and then bowing out so she can compete because it wouldnt' be fair.

I could see Owen doing all the interviews, realizing that Cristina is right for the position and then bowing out so she can compete because it wouldnt' be fair. And I could see Webber respecting that too given what he's facing with Adele. (Plus, I think Webber was sort of rooting for Cristina for CR when he announced the job was open again. Plus, she's worked with Webber an awful lot since then, just sayin'.) From the sounds of it, stress is heating up for all the residents and for Cristina it might be making her feel washed up...no cardio and CR interviews happening up the hall while Meredith and Derek are falling in love with a baby to adopt. (And what's up with the furor over that, btw. That baby is freakin' adorable.)

You guys have me thinking that maybe Owen does decide Cristina should be CR/lead contender in that hot bar kissing scene. Why else would they kiss like that there? Then in the SF, Cristina finds out she's pregnant thus creating the cliffhanger for the summer. I guess she takes it out on Owen initially for getting her pregnant. Maybe this is when Owen is trying to convince her that there is more to life than work. Still trying to figure out what KMK meant by his comment on who is right? him? her? no one? Is this about her focusing only on her career and giving up her marriage(don't think it would really happen though just the threat of it) or to have or not have a baby? abbyfactor~I felt the same confusion when I read that in the writer's blog. It never seemed to me that Cristina's biggest wish was to be CR. Guess we are to assume she would want this because she strives to be the best and to win all the contests. Don't know why the writers go for contrived plot devices(Owen having to choose CR) when there was a way to tell their story so much better. Oh well... I am thrilled that we finally had C/O mentioned in the same epi description and all the lovely promo pics this week. Thought TPTB had forgotten about C/O. Not to be mean but it was a nice break not to have promo pics of Callie and Arizona for 7.21. ITA, that baby that M/D are holding...so adorable. Can't believe that season 7 is almost over and that Owen has been in Cristina's life for 3 seasons now.

As long as they're kissing like that in the bar I almost don't care why since those photographs are so lovely! Squee. But I'm sure there are several possible scenarios. It could simply be Alex pouring out his story about Lucy leaving and Cristina realizes how lucky she is to have her husband walk into the bar to pick her up in a 'what will you have' kind of moment. And in terms of who's right or wrong...I think it's that both of them have a point - just like in 7.16 in which the surface of the argument was about babies and whether or not to have them and underneath it was about communication and singular vision alongside shared vision. These sorts of ideas will apply to both the workplace challenges we already know they're facing and the likely parallel personal application of these same issues to them finally being able to step into their marriage in different ways now that they're both mentally healthy. It's human nature to want to pick sides and to stand up for oneself, but in this instance they're both right and wrong. For example - whether or not to have children is a black and white issue, likewise maybe whether or not Cristina's advocated for procedure was the more risky course of action as Callie's surgeries were being planned. But once you wade into it, shouldn't Cristina consider Owen's feelings on such a big topic and include them in the conversation alongside her own? And shouldn't Cristina get points for her procedure making more sense once they were in the OR with Callie? There will be debate, as Kevin talked about, and it will ultimately be hard to pick sides because we'll see parts of each character's side of the story.
