(RTTNews) - "Grey's Anatomy" crossed over with spinoff "Private Practice" in Thursday's episode Derek's estranged sister Amelia (a regular on "Private Practice") stopped in at Seattle Grace this week. Derek has been avoiding calls from "Amy" since the shootout that ended last season. After receiving a plane ticket from Derek's ex-wife Addison, Amelia hops on a plane and heads to Seattle. Amelia doesn't arrive alone, however. In addition to a patient with a brain tumor, sister Shepherd brings with her a whole lot of sibling baggage. Much is uncovered about Derek and Amy's tumultuous childhood. Turns out, Derek is the second Shepherd male to get shot. While they were children, Derek and Amelia's dad died at the hands of a gunman. While Amelia makes her way into Seattle Grace, Derek resists letting her near his OR or near his personal life. However, sibling bonding takes over before the end of the episode, and the two reconcile for the first time in years. Meanwhile, after Cristina's mid-surgery freak-out last week, the top docs worry that she can't handle the stress, and push to move her into a less stressful rotation. Former Chief Shepherd takes a stand, however, insisting that the traumatized resident be put on his service (for fear that she will quit medicine all together.) Derek even puts his own career on the line, threatening "If she goes, I go." After much agonizing and some inspirational albeit harsh words from Shepherd, Cristina put the scalpel back in her hands, making her first cut in weeks. With Yang making a comeback, it looks like Seattle Grace is slowly getting back to normal. www.rttnews.com/Content/EntertainmentNews.aspx?Section=2&Id=1440216&SM=1

Mark Wilding on "Superfreak"... I think one of the worst things you can tell a writer is write what you know. Or a close corollary of that – write about your life. If you put my life on a movie screen, the audience would demand their money back. They wouldn’t just walk out of the theatre, they’d stampede the ushers in their rush to the exits. Unless the ushers, bored to death themselves, had already quit their job and gone home. As much as I really enjoy my job – I feel EXTREMELY fortunate that I get to work with a lot of fun people every day – my life itself is relatively boring. It’s divided into spending forever driving on the freeways, going to some event at my kids’ schools where none of the other parents talk to me, playing the occasional frustrating round of golf (Why aren’t I better than this?? I’ve been playing this sport for 40 years for God’s sake!!), having the occasional run-in with a rude department store clerk or bank employee and going out to dinner with my wife. I like my wife so that part’s less boring. She’s also kind enough to back me up after I’ve had my run-in with the rude store and/or bank employee. Although, now that I think of it, she’s probably getting a little bored herself with my long-winded, self-justifying accounts of those run-ins. Little bits and pieces of my life do occasionally show up on Grey’s Anatomy. Derek’s taking up golf. I lobbied for that. I also suggested he and Mark hit golf balls off the hospital roof last season. I didn’t suggest the Derek storyline with his estranged sister – that was Shonda’s idea -- but it was an easy story for me to identify with. I have a little sister who’s ten years younger than me. We’re not estranged, far from it in fact, she’s great. But, like Derek and his sister Amy, our dad died when I was 15 and she was five. He wasn’t shot. He had a heart attack. And ever since then I’ve wanted to protect her from what’s out there in the world. After all, that’s what older brothers do. Protect their little sisters. Because the world doesn’t always make you feel good about yourself. In fact, more often than not, the world makes you feel like you don’t belong. Like you’ve missed out on the joke. Like you’re, yes… a freak. Yup, that was the theme of my episode. Freaks. Because basically we are all Treemen. Physically, we may not have the warts but metaphorically we sure as hell do. Especially when I go to these d**n school functions where nobody talks to me. Nobody! And, by the way, it’s not like I don’t make the effort – I DO! I ask the other parents about themselves and their wonderfully accomplished and oh so brilliant children (I’m never this sarcastic with them, I promise) but, even then, even with all the effort I’m putting into the conversation, they start looking around like they want to talk to someone, ANYONE, but me!! THEY CAN’T LOOK AT ME. Yes, suddenly I’M A TREEMAN!! At a PTA Meeting!!! By the way, most of you probably already know this -- the Treeman is based on a true story about a guy whose warts have grown so out of control he looks like, well, a tree. If our depiction of him wasn’t gross enough for you, you can go to YouTube and watch him in his home in the Philippines. You can also watch the operations to remove all his warts and disturbing-looking growths. In my episode though, the story is really about his long-suffering wife (played wonderfully by Jolene Kim; kudos also to the angry Treeman in my episode – Art Chudabala -- he was great. Also extremely patient, it took our make-up department FIVE HOURS every day to put on all those warts and growths). Emotionally, the story plays on Mark when Mrs. Treeman wonders if love is enough to keep a couple together. That even though you desperately love someone, you’re at such different points in your life, it just can’t work. Which is a very sad realization for Mark when it comes to Lexie. Meantime, Lexie’s doing her very best to empathize with the Treeman. After all, she’s been in his shoes. For the first couple of episodes she was the one everybody in the hospital was staring at. We never comment on Lexie’s state of mind until the end of the episode but, after being committed, Lexie thinks the world sees her as kind of a freak. Or as she puts it – “a psycho running naked down the hallway.” But even her empathy for freaks can’t prevent her from having a thing about warts. By the way, when we were coming up with the story in the room, one of the writers was so grossed out by even the mention of warts, we had to call them puppies. Which, yes, made this writer a little bit of a freak. And yes, this writer has given me permission to use her name. This writer was Krista Vernoff. You know how Bailey jumped ten feet back when she saw the spider? That was Krista every time we mentioned warts. Sorry. Puppies… The other love story we got to play in the episode was Teddy with the trauma shrink, Andrew Perkins. Teddy gets to have her freakishness explained to her near the end of the episode. What’s her problem? Simple. She chooses men who aren’t available! Bam. Wouldn’t it be great if somebody could do that for us in our every day lives? Maybe some helpful parent would tell me that the reason the other parents at school functions turn away from me is that I’m boring. Or that I’m such a brilliant conversationalist they feel they can’t keep up. Yeah, I like that one. I’m going with that one for now. The nice thing about having a big cast is that you get to mix and match the characters in a hundred different ways. You don’t often get to see Derek and Cristina together in a story line – they’re not tremendously fond of each other – but she did save his life. We hadn’t played any of the fallout from that yet this season. We got our chance to do so in this episode and it made me wonder why the heck we don’t have these two actors together more often. Patrick and Sandra were FANTASTIC together. Of course, the sad part of the story was that despite Derek’s best intentions, Cristina is nowhere near healed. At this point she might, in fact, be the biggest freak at Seattle Grace. Her PTSD is crippling. The question remains --will she ever come back from what happened? Finally, there’s the subject of April’s virginity and the fact it makes her feel like a freak. I’m happy with the way we handled the story. Callie once called Seattle Grace high school with scalpels. When the other residents find out about April, they react the way high schoolers might react – with some incredulity and a fair amount of cruelty. Which is what makes April’s speech at the end so affecting. Her virginity ISN’T drinks conversation. And she points out that, after this shooting, they’ve all become freaks in their own way. It’s how they cope. Which is why I think I play golf. It helps me escape, if only for a few hours, the things life throws at me – the long drives to work, the run-ins with store clerks, the indifferent reception by private school parents. And as frustrating as the sport can be, it’s also really really hard. Most people can’t play it well. Most people feel less good about themselves when they’re out on the course. And I guess that’s what I like about it so much. Because when that many people feel they can’t do something, you’ve joined the brotherhood of golfing freaks. And it doesn’t matter how good you are, at some point, anyone who’s every played the game has walked off the 18th hole feeling like a failure. There’s camaraderie in our ineptness. And for that, I am profoundly comforted and more than a little grateful… www.greyswriters.com/

Tonight’s episode was all about freaks. Some you can easily pick out in a crowd and some you can’t. It starts out with a man and wife who show up to the hospital because the husband has a rare form of HPV which causes him to have warts all over his body as well as tree like hands. The disease has covered his body and he can’t function in a normal society. By most he is considered a freak. I’ll tell you this, when they were performing surgery it was hard to watch. They were cutting of his horn like fingers and at one point a spider crawled out of his finger and Bailey freaked out. I would have too! It actually gives me shivers just writing about it. That set the tone for the show. Everyone is dealing with the repercussions from the shooting and they are all considered “freaks” in their own way. Karev is scared of the elevator since the shooting as that is wear he almost bled to death. Everyone still thinks Lexi is crazy. Christina still cannot perform a surgery. Bailey has arachnophobia. Teddy falls for a guy that’s leaving. In some way they all have their issues and things they don’t want to talk about, and that is just a part of life. Learning how to deal with the cards you’ve been dealt and moving on. Being ok with what and who you are. Pretty good episode this time around and now I’m going to try not to think about spiders crawling out of horn like fingers. www.current-movie-reviews.com/tv/2010/10/08/grey%E2%80%99s-anatomy-recap-we%E2%80%99re-all-freaks/

Grey’s Anatomy deals with a lot of issues, but none has ever had as much of a lasting impression on me as the wart man who looked like a scaly ocean monster! It’s been an hour since I watched Grey’s Anatomy, and I still feel sick to my stomach. The Oct. 7 episode, “Superfreak,” was inspired in many ways, but all of those positive story lines were overshadowed by the patient who was so infected with HPV, that his warts had taken over his entire skin. I can watch heart surgeries; blood and gore don’t affect me…but seeing someone have warts that are so big, green and alien-like that the person can no longer use their hands or function, is just too much. The doctors couldn’t even shave these things off the poor guy. “Each wart has its own blood supply so we need to cut…each one,” Dr. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) explained. Then, when they were in surgery sawing away and a spider crawled out of the patient’s limbs, I almost lost my wine. I looked up HPV warts on the Web, and sure enough, Grey’s Anatomy wasn’t pulling stuff from fantasy land: THIS CAN ACTUALLY HAPPEN TO YOU. That said, ladies, I urge you: take my word for it and go get your HPV vaccinations as soon as possible. If you’re out of the age range for said shots (26, I believe), practice safe sex and limit your number of partners. For more information on HPV prevention, click here. The rest of the episode was well-done. One of my favorite parts was watching April (Sarah Drew!) get tipsy and reveal to the gang she’s still a virgin. As Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) said, “Oh, April. I’m liking you more and more.” What did YOU think about Grey’s Anatomy Oct. 7? www.hollywoodlife.com/2010/10/08/watch-greys-anatomy-7x03-episode-wart-man-hpv-sarah-drew-april-meredith-grey-derek-shepherd-baby/

If there ever were an episode of Grey’s Anatomy that would make you realize that importance of practicing safe sex, “Superfreak” would be it, introducing viewers to a very rare condition that happens to some unfortunate people who catch HPV. This disease is known as Epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV) and pretty much causes your limbs to turn into tree like branches and tumors all over your body. I really sympathized with Lexie’s initial reaction to when she first saw the patient. What’s even more scary is the fact that HPV happens to be one of the most commonly sexually transmitted diseases these days and EV can happen to anyone from any race. Yikes! Okay, back to my review. I couldn’t agree with Meredith more when she told April that she’s growing on her at the end of the episode. There’s something endearing about the fact that she’s a 28-year-old virgin, especially in our Jersey Shore day and age. I really can’t wait to see April not only lose her virginity, but find a man! Maybe she and Alex can hit it off? How would you feel about that?! Poor Cristina. After a traumatic episode last week, she’s still not really ready to be back inside the OR. Since Andrew is leaving, I think that only way she’s going to get over her fear is to have another traumatic experience happen to her to jolt her back into the reason she fell in love with it in the first place. I did have warm, fuzzy feelings when Derek told Cristina that she’s family and her talent is too amazing to throw away. Since she was the one person who saved his life, maybe he will be the one person to save her life as a surgeon. For those of you that don’t follow her character on Private Practice, we were finally introduced to one of Derek’s sisters, Amelia, and by the looks of her steamy scene with Mark at the end, we definitely are in for some major drama! Sometimes, I wonder why Lexie can be so dense. Even April could see that Mark is totally in love with her and when she finally goes to see him, what else would she expect from the once playboy of his time? I still have hope for these two, do you? Callie and Arizona were pretty funny trying to figure out a way to get Cristina out of their love nest and as it turned out, the only thing they needed to do is show her that three really can be a crowd. This scene is very reminiscent of the time when Cristina was trying to get George out of her place with Burke. From the looks of it, Meredith is definitely ready to get back into surgery. She got the pass from the doc, so what’s the deal? Why wasn’t Meredith and her talents used this week? Another one of our favorite doctors, Karev, showed that, he too, is still dealing with PTSD. Finally, with the chief’s help, he was able to ride the elevator again. Think he's over it? Probably the most hilarious part from last night’s episode was watching Bailey freak out when a spider crawled out of the man’s hands during surgery. Everyone has a fear of something and Miranda's happens to be spiders. Who knew? Overall, I enjoyed last night’s episode, but I did feel a bit unsatisfied. Maybe it had something to do with the whole Lexie and Mark situation. Ugh! Can’t these two just get back together already?! Until next week, here are a few of my favorite Grey’s Anatomy quotes from last night: April: I'm a virgin. That doesn't make it drinks conversation. We all have stuff we don't talk about. Meredith: Oh April. I'm liking you more and more. April: Thank you. Meredith: Nobody chooses to be a freak. Most people don't realize they're a freak until it's way to late to change it. No matter how much of a freak you end up being, chances are there's still someone out there for you. Unless of course, they've already moved on. Because when it comes to love, even freaks can't wait forever. Bailey: Give me back my bottle. Callie: Teddy needs it she's pathetic. Derek: You're flaming out. And as someone who cares about you, it's not okay. I've seen a lot of residents come and go and very very few with your potential. It's not okay. Cristina: I can barely remember it. You're whole procedure. I took a bullet out of your chest and all I can remember is bits and pieces. Bits and pieces that come back at very inconvenient times, so end of story. Lexie: What? Mark: Nothing. Cristina: Would you love me if I wasn't a surgeon? Owen: I would love you if you were a plumber, but would you love you if you weren't a surgeon? Cristina: I don't know, maybe? | permalink Callie: Look away. Stop staring at her. Mark: I can't. | permalink Meredith: April, don't talk about Cristina. Just mind your own business. April: I'm sorry. I was just concerned. I'll try not to be. | permalink Teddy: I'm not GI Jane, I'm attachment Barbie. | permalink Meredith: I think they're talking about you. It's going to be okay. They can't kick you out of the program for being traumatized. Cristina: I don't care what they do. Derek: Dr. Yang you're with me. Meredith: What, no, I'm with you? Derek: You have someone else. We're walking Dr. Yang. Derek: (regarding Cristina) She goes I go. www.tvfanatic.com/2010/10/greys-anatomy-review-superfreak/

The theme of this week's Grey's Anatomy is freaks, and not just because one of Seattle Grace's newest patients resembles a tree. Lots of little secrets about the surgeons come out this week, which brings some of them under scrutiny around the hospital. Yang still can't bring herself to go back into an OR, Karev won't use the elevator, and April tries to hide the fact that she's a virgin. The episode is a bit lighter than the season's first two, but it's clear that the subject of the shooting spree is going to be a hot topic for quite some time. When you're ready to break it all down, just read more. Cristina's OR meltdown last week becomes a point of contention with the doctors. Is she ready to go back to work? Will she ever be? The surgeons take sides, with Derek firmly on Team Cristina. He even threatens to quit if she gets fired. Now that she's saved his life, he's willing to take a (proverbial) bullet for her. One person who doesn't believe in Cristina's abilities is Derek's sister Amy. The baby of his family shows up unannounced, frustrated that her big brother hasn't returned her calls. Derek is stone cold to her, even though she brings him a patient with a brain tumor as a "present." When Meredith calls him out on his behavior, he reveals that he's been angry with her for years since she's recovering from an addiction to pain medication. Derek thinks it's unfair that his sister put their mother through so much (especially after their father passed), but I think it's kind of unfair that Derek is seemingly abandoning his sister because she has a problem. Clearly the whole family has been through some serious trauma — shouldn't he do the brotherly thing and forgive her? Derek continues to be frosty before the operation and kicks Amy out of the OR when she says that Cristina is a dud. Maybe I don't know enough about what really goes on inside hospitals, but all the talk of Cristina never returning to work again seems to be jumping the gun a bit. All of the doctors are suffering from a bit of post traumatic stress disorder, and she only had one bad reaction to a surgery. Shouldn't someone be encouraging her to take a sabbatical instead of talking about firing her? Lucky for Cristina, Derek swoops in to help save her life like she saved his. He takes her back to square one, using a cadaver to help get her confidence back in the operating room. They share a very sweet moment when he admits that he probably wouldn't have chosen Cristina as a friend in ordinary circumstances — but now, they're a family. In turn, Derek also mans up and has a heart-to-heart with Amy about what happened to their father. After a long day of suspicion from her peers, April finally admits that she is, in fact, a 28-year-old virgin. When her fellow doctors erupt in laughter, she gives them their just deserts, going around the table and calling each one out on their own laughable secret. Karev is afraid of the elevator, Jackson still has nightmares, Meredith is afraid the "old" Cristina will never return, and the kicker — Lexie is oblivious to the fact that Mark is still in love with her. I cheered for April when she finally stands up for herself, and I'm with Meredith when she says that April is becoming more likable. "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!" moment of the episode: After April's speech, Lexie goes to Mark, seemingly ready to give him another chance. Unfortunately, Callie reminded him that Lexie had asked him to back off, and Lexie finds him all tangled up in Amelia. I just want to see these two back together, and though Mark technically didn't do anything wrong, is Lexie going to be mad at him all over again? Can we talk about Teddy for a second? Kim Raver was only recently made a series regular on the show, but boy are they wasting her screen time. Last season she played a pivotal role in Cristina's development as a surgeon and her relationship with Owen, but this season she seems to be an afterthought in every episode. I'm hoping they'll utilize her a little more now that her half-baked relationship is over — I want to see her make some waves. What did you think of this week's episode? Are you excited for the potential spark between Teddy and Jackson (they hinted it in the promo for next week)? Did you think the man with the warts was as nauseating as the doctors did? What do you get when you combine a 28-year-old virgin, a joke about Brett Favre and a Treeman? Last night’s traumatizing Grey’s Anatomy crossover episode. In case you haven’t seen that one unsettling episode of My Shocking Story on Discovery Health, Treemanism (not the scientific term) is an extremely rare skin disorder caused by an HPV infection that causes huge, unsightly warts to grow all over your body and your limbs to gnarl like tree limbs. One of these cases wandered into Seattle Grace last night and was greeted with the utmost professionalism abject horror like the unfortunate human being monster he was. So go ahead and grab your bottle of Extra Strength Tylenol and join Movieline as we relive each pang and crippling psychological trauma caused by Shonda Rhimes in last night’s episode, titled with absolute political correctness, “Superfreak.” Cristina Climbing Into Bed With Meredith and Derek Where It Falls On the Pain Scale: 1. Slight discomfort. Like I mentioned during last week’s pain scale, the least shopworn relationship in season seven is Cristina and Meredith’s. So seeing Cristina hitch her way over to Mer and Der’s at midnight because she is terrified of having another post traumatic stress flare-up was fine. After that initial mild discomfort, seeing the three of them in bed was oddly comforting. McDreamy’s Hot Younger Sister McFloozy Being Introduced For the First Time in Seven Seasons Where It Falls On the Pain Scale: 3. Mild headache. There is something annoying about Grey’s Anatomy writers cavalierly introducing a family member of McDreamy’s as late as season seven, just to fill the Grey’s Anatomy/Private Practice cross-over quota, especially for non-fans of Private Practice. If Derek had such a problem with his spitfire younger sister ten years ago when she raised hell for their mother, why doesn’t he just flat-out ban her from the hospital? Why isn’t Meredith bothered by McFloozy’s suspicious return to McDreamy’s life? So many questions. McFloozy Bringing McDreamy a Cancer Patient as a “Peace Offering” Where It Falls On the Pain Scale: 6. Chest pain. Shortness of breath. Come on Grey’s. McFloozy has not seen her brother in a decade and she is going to ease her way back into his heart by bringing him a surgery opportunity whom she met on the plane ride up to Seattle — when she had sex with him in the bathroom? The moment was briefly helped by McSteamy’s wry observation about the studly fellow trailing McFloozy, “You brought your brother Brett Favre.” OK, no it wasn’t. Jerry, the Hooded Treeman Making His First Appearance Where It Falls On the Pain Scale: 8. Chest pain. Nausea. Viewers knew something was up when Bailey and Lexie RECOILED IN SHEER HORROR after catching sight of a hooded figure slouched outside of Seattle Grace. After a well-timed commercial break (“What kind of monster was in that car? Wait through these ads for Dancing with the stars to see!”), Bailey managed to coax Jerry the Treeman, a warty guy with tree trunks for hands and feet into Seattle Grace’s safe space — where esteemed TV medical professionals would continue to gawk at him freely. Derek Telling Owen That They Have No Control Over Their Women Where It Falls on the Pain Scale: 2. Discomfort. “We’re trying to steer them in the right direction,” McDreamy wisely counseled Owen about their wives. “But in the end, we just don’t understand.” I don’t like Owen seeking marital advice from the doctor who as recently as last week, was the subject of at least three urine-related jokes following time in jail, but at least Derek knows his place. Realizing That Jerry the Hooded Treeman Had an Emotionally Abusive Wife Where It Falls On the Pain Scale: 5. Fever. Chills. Paranoia that limbs will also turn into gnarled claws and lead us into the un-gnarled arms of the first emotionally abusive person who can handle the sight of us. It was a nice touch, giving Jerry a wife at first. It showed viewers that, “Hey, you can have a crippling disfigurement that causes clinical depression, suicidal tendencies and well-coiffed medical professionals to stare at you like a circus sideshow, but someone will still love you. And that someone may have no patience for your condition, demand that you undergo dramatic surgery against your will and then be selfishly disappointed afterward when it is unsuccessful because the two of you can’t go to the Steak n’ Shake for date night without more stares.” Watching Lexie Nearly Lose Her Lunch in the O.R. While Operating on Treeman Where It Falls on the Pain Scale: 8. Relentless nausea. Stomach cramps. The only thing worse than watching a credible (TV) surgeon cut off each rough tree wart on Jerry the Treeman’s unconscious body was watching Lexie dry heave while doing so. Give Treeman a break already, Shonda! This Halloween HPV horror story is exhausted. There might as well have been plucky string music and looped in female screams every time the camera rested on Jerry. April Admitting That She is a Virgin Where It Falls on the Pain Scale: (Broken) The Grey’s Anatomy Pain Scale is so exhausted from measuring every single Treeman scene in last night’s episode. Listen, April admitting that she is a virgin was completely predictable. And in the future, 28-year-old virgins everywhere should probably have a realistic “first time” story ready that does not include the beach at sunset (that’s a dead give-away) for when your co-workers pressure you into talking about that moment against your will. www.movieline.com/2010/10/greys-anatomy-pain-scale-please-shonda-rhimes-no-more-treemen.php

We always loves each and every bit of the Greys Anatomy series but this time round and within the Grey’s Anatomy season 7 episode 3 it seemed that the writer was all in to disappoint us. Seemingly it appeared up as the fact that within the Grey’s Anatomy season 7 episode 3 there was not much for the producers, directors as well as for the writer of the series to pen down and to speak off. Even the patients that have been included within the Grey’s Anatomy season 7 episode 3 did not have anything noticeable to be talked about or to get a cure off. The relationships seemed pretty off balanced as well as the acting pretty damaging to the entire persona of the series. I guess, the relationship factor within the current Grey’s Anatomy season 7 episode 3 seemed pretty overmuch away from the track and further more way off balanced as it seems the love between the doctors is getting nowhere. That said, whatever has been shown within the Grey’s Anatomy season 7 episode 3 could as well be a continuity of the things to come. It could be something really interesting but as we do not know as to what will happen in the upcoming episode of the series then we are not sure about the proceedings and think the drama this time, was much bizarre and less interesting. But as always we have not given up on the Grey’s Anatomy and the next episode is expected to wash away our very worries. www.infocuts.com/story/article-007848

An impromptu family visit turned out to be the perfect prescription for drama on Thursday's Grey's Anatomy. When Derek's sister Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) blew into Seattle, eager to see how her big brother was doing after surviving a bullet to the chest, he was hardly thrilled to see her. Granted, he had his reasons: Amelia had once crashed his Mustang while high on pain pills. And she'd stolen his prescription pad in order to feed her habit – then nearly died from an overdose until he saved her. But the one-time wild child was now a responsible adult. Sort of. A whip-smart neurosurgeon like her big brother, Amelia showed up to the hospital with a patient in tow – a fellow passenger on her plane, whom she'd diagnosed as having a brain tumor during their hook-up in the airplane bathroom. She pestered Der to let her help fix Hook-Up Guy in the OR, and he finally relented, until she made the mistake of bad-mouthing Cristina when she once again panicked during surgery. If Der was in the mood to play protective big brother to anyone, it was his wife's best friend, who'd started the episode by climbing into bed with Meredith – and Derek – because she was unable to sleep at home without Owen there. Realizing how badly she was struggling – and grateful to her for saving his life – Der threatened to quit when the Chief suggested Cristina be temporarily reassigned to the snoozefest that is admin duty. But despite Der's help, Dr. Yang's troubles seem far from over. Near the end of the hour, she sadly informed her husband, "I think I could be happy being a plumber." PTSD was then momentarily replaced with PDA, as Callie and Arizona burst into the apartment, oblivious to everything except their own steamy makeout session. Owen's surprised, but hardly displeased, face upon witnessing that display? Priceless. Meanwhile, with most of the surgeons cleared to return to work, Teddy's trauma-counselor boyfriend prepared to depart the hospital, which had Teddy freaking out. McShrink so nailed it when he told her she had to stop falling for unavailable men. Alex got called out on his issues, too, when the Chief put the kibosh on his incessant use of the hospital stairs. Yes, Alex had nearly died in an elevator after the shooting rampage but it was time he got back in one – and by golly, he would ride it up and down, again and again, until he wasn't scared anymore but rather, as the Chief put it, "just bored." Likewise, April faced up to her fear of being harshly judged by her fellow docs when she admitted that she, like her about-to-be-married patient, was a late-20s virgin. But it was Derek, taking the difficult first step in patching things up with his estranged sister, who perhaps made the biggest breakthrough. As kids, he had shielded her from the armed robbers who'd killed their father; as adults, he still yearned to protect her from all the pain in the world. He wished she could remain "little and quiet and safe," he said. "But you're loud and fearless – and it scares the crap out of me." Wonder how he'll take it then when he learns his baby sis went off and slept with Sloan? Tell us: Were you a fan of Derek's pot-stirring sister? Did we see too little of the already-gone McShrink? And too much of the wart-covered HPV patient? www.people.com/people/article/0,,20432843,00.html

Sibling Rivalry By Lauren S | Season 7 | Episode 3 | Callie and Arizona still have a storyline that focuses on their moving in together -- this week it's that they want Owen and Cristina to move out and don't feel like they are taking steps towards this fast enough. Meredith is the one who has to point out to Callie that Cristina can't even sleep if Owen is gone (she goes to Meredith's and crawls into bed with her... and Derek... so that she can finally get some sleep) so Callie then thinks they are monsters for wishing the couple out. It turns out, however, that all she and Arizona needed to do all along was come home and start ripping each other's clothes off right in front of Owen and Cristina before moving into the bedroom for drunken sex, and that gets the newlyweds thinking about their own place right quick. Cristina is still doing terribly -- during a meeting the attendings all argue about what might be best for her, and most of them think she needs to be moved to administration or something similar for a while. Derek, though, stands up for her on account of her saving his life and puts her on his service, figuring administration is the last thing that would be good for her. It doesn't do a ton of good, though, because Cristina is flippant and sullen and can't bring herself to even answer questions about how they might treat a patient, much less actually help with anything in surgery. Derek finally talks to her and tells her that she's got the most potential of almost anyone he's ever seen, but she finally admits that she doesn't even remember his surgery, except for bits that sneak up on her like in the OR last week, and that she just wants to be left alone. He decides to take a step back, and instead helps her through reenacting his surgery on a corpse, but it obviously doesn't do what Derek wishes it would, as she admits to Owen later that she might be happy being a plumber instead. Derek has quite a day overall -- in addition to the difficult task of trying to help Cristina, his little sister Amy shows up at the hospital because he's been ignoring her calls ever since he was shot. She brings him a "gift" in the form of a guy with a brain tumor, and he figures out that she met the guy while having a mile-high tryst on the way to Seattle. Amy is also a neurosurgeon, but she seems like a loose cannon and Derek wants nothing to do with her, so he tries to keep her out of the OR and away from him, though fairly unsuccessfully. Mere doesn't get why he seems to hate her until he explains that Amy totaled his car while high on drugs that she obtained by stealing his prescription pad. It turns out that she's always acted out due to her own trauma of being there with Derek when their father was shot and killed, and that all she's really ever wanted to do is actually talk about it with him. When he finally opens up about it, they have a Moment and seem to get back on the right track with each other. Lexie, Bailey and Mark get a patient whose entire body is covered in warts -- to the extent that his hands look like grotesque gray-green claws and his face looks like he's wearing a fright mask. Lexie flips out when she first sees him and so Bailey makes her work closely on him all day as penance. Lexie feels a little bit better, though, when a spider crawls out of one of the growths during surgery and Bailey starts dancing around and screaming like a little girl, proving that everyone has something about which they can't always stay totally cool. Lexie also still thinks that Mark thinks she is a freak, but in a drunken moment April finally tells her that Mark clearly is still in love with her. Lexie looks rather pleased with this idea, but when she goes to find him, he's about to embark on a couple of quality hours in the on-call room with none other than Amy. And finally, everyone faces up to some hard truths that they'd all rather not talk about, for instance: April is a virgin, Alex is afraid of the elevator, and Teddy has a pattern of only picking unavailable men. While the Chief helps Alex by riding in the elevator with him until he is bored rather than scared, April and Teddy are still on their own for now. www.televisionwithoutpity.com/show/greys_anatomy/superfreak.php

'Grey's Anatomy' Season 7 Ep. 3 Recap: Confessions, Surgery & Siblings Lori May Starpulse Contributing Writer The third episode of Grey’s Anatomy Season 7 continued to illustrate the vulnerabilities of the surgeons and staff of Seattle Grace following the murder spee Season 6 finale. This week’s episode featured unwanted family members, a rare HPV condition, and Cristina’s continued struggle with surgery. The episode began with Cristina (Sandra Oh) slipping into Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) bedroom. Owen (Kevin McKidd) was on-call, and she couldn’t sleep, so Meredith invited her into their bed much to the surprise of Derek. “I can’t sleep when you’re not there,” Cristina explained to Owen later in the episode. Owen approached later in the episode Derek, asking him if he found his wife sharing their bed to be strange. “Did you see E.T.?” Derek asked him with a smirk. “Remember the kid, Elliot? He and E.T. had this weird and disturbing bond. If he got sick, E.T. got sick; if E.T. got drunk, Elliot got drunk. That’s kind of like Cristina and Meredith.” Owen seemed to accept this explanation, especially considering he and Derek likely have no say in the situation. The staff of Seattle Grace found themselves debating which of the surgeons were ready to return to surgery. The entire Grey’s Anatomy main cast has been cleared—except for Cristina. Everyone but Derek seemed to share the opinion that she should be put on research duty, but Derek protested. “If she goes, I go,” he demanded, and finally had Cristina assigned to his service. Meredith refused to discuss Cristina with the rest of the surgical staff, remaining one of her biggest advocate. Derek’s estranged sister was the main guest star of Season 7 episode 3, much to the frustration of Derek. He explained to Meredith that his little sister stole his prescription pad and overdosed, and that he saved her life; this happened after the death of their father, and he couldn’t forgive her for putting their mother through that. By the end of the episode, the wayward “Little Shepherd” and Derek had a heart-to-heart, and seemed to put the past behind them and take strides into the future. This was after she insulted Cristina, calling her a “dud” after she once-again bulked in the O.R. “Cristina Yang saved my life,” Derek said soberly. “I owe her everything." Derek, who seemed utterly determined to be instrumental in Cristina’s recovery, took her down to work on a cadaver. She claimed she couldn’t remember what happened in the Grey’s Anatomy Season 6 finale, when she saved his life by removing a bullet from his chest with a gun pointed to her head. He unbuttoned his shirt and showed her the incision (much to many viewer’s delight), and finally convinced her to retrace the steps she had taken while performing surgery on him. He told her she was family, and so he would continue to worry about her. This week’s Grey’s Anatomy featured three unique cases: the brain tumor patient whom Derek’s sister brought along, a virgin bride-to-be who aspirated a condom at her bachelorette party, and a man with a rare symptom of HPV which caused horrible warts all over his body. The young woman sparked discomfort for April (Sarah Drew), whom by the end of the episode revealed that she too is a virgin, much to the shock—and ridicule—of her fellow surgeons. While she, Meredith and several others were having drinks, April finally retaliated and exploded in frustration. “We all have things we don’t talk about!” she lectured, and went one-by-one down the list. Alex’s (Justin Chambers) paranoia about the elevator, in which he crawled and laid in a blood of blood during the Season 6 finale, was exposed; Chief Webber (James Pickens Jr.) had discovered the situation earlier in the episode, and forced Alex to ride with him in the elevator until he stopped being afraid and was just bored. After her outburst, Meredith told April that she was beginning to like her. “I’m not GI Jane—I’m attachment Barbie!” exclaimed Teddy (Kim Raver) to Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw). She was depressed over the conclusion of the staff evaluations, knowing that her new Beau would be leaving with the final assessments. Callie and Arizona on the other hand, continued to fret over their shared quarters. They asked Teddy to speak with Owen about moving out with Cristina, but she refused; Meredith refused the request earlier in the episode after shaming Callie for even asking. The two ladies took matters into their own hands, and at the end of the episode they came home and proceeded to strip each other of clothing in front of a shocked Owen and Cristina; the newlyweds immediately decided to find a new apartment. Mark (Eric Dane) continued to pine for Lexie (Chyler Leigh), and as usual sought the council of Callie. “Her last words were ‘leave me alone, leave me alone, leave me alone;’ only louder,” Callie explained to him patiently, and clung to her opinion that Mark should give her space. Lexie was surprised to hear April, during her outburst at the bar, tell her that Mark was still in love with her and that was why he stared at her. At the end of the episode she went looking for Mark, only to find him making out with “Little Shepherd” outside his apartment door, sweeping her inside. Obviously, the familiar faces of Grey's Anatomy have a long road ahead of them in way of recovery, not only personal fears and concerns but also their interpersonal relationships. www.starpulse.com/news/Lori_May/2010/10/09/greys_anatomy_season_7_ep_3_recap_conf

After abruptly canceling freshman drama My Generation, ABC filled the Thursday 8 p.m. hour this week with a repeat of Grey’s anatomy, which averaged 4.19 million viewers (#4) and a last-place 1.1/ 4 among adults 18-49. One week earlier, My Generation scored a similar 3.81 million viewers and a 1.1/ 3 in the demo on Sept. 30. Next was an original installment of Grey’s Anatomy (Viewers: #1, 12.49 million; A18-49: #1, 4.5/12 at 9 p.m.), which is now beating competing CSI in the both total viewers and the demo, followed by spin-off Private Practice at 8.04 million viewers (#2) and a 2.9/ 8 among adults 18-49 (#2) at 10 p.m. pifeedback.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/63310451/m/422107623

This recap is a little more tongue in cheek(?) so here is the Owen, Cristina, Derek and Meredith part. When I make my move to her room it’s the right time…Cristina and Meredith step up the ladybonding with hilarious results. Owen’s on call, and instead of making it a Blockbuster night (too soon?) Cristina decides she’ll go crash at Mer’s house – like the old days! Except, well now Mer’s Post-It married and Derek’s sleeping soundly next to her. No worries. Mer pats the space next to her and Cristina crawls into bed. Once artfully arranged, naturally Derek wakes up, palms around his marital bed for his wife and discovers an extra body! Proving himself to be the ultimate anti-Sloan, Derek sighs and goes back to sleep. Derek later evokes the little known “E.T. ladyfriendship clause” to explain away his resignation to Owen like this, “you and I are like the government guys in the white Hazmat suits. We try to steer them in the right direction, but in the end we just don’t understand.” Surprisingly, Owen has both seen E.T. and accepts Derek’s prognosis as accurate. The latest episode of Grey's Anatomy is yet another solid outing in what's shaping up to be a very strong season. Deftly balancing drama and comedy in GA's trademark style, "Superfreak" illustrates how we all have a bit of freak in us but also illuminates the progress we make in our lives, step by baby step. Derek and ... Cristina??? Derek Shepherd took center stage in this episode, and I really enjoyed getting to know more about his back story. There have been references to his father's death, but it was great to learn more about this complicated personal history, as Derek was paired with two women in this episode, neither of whom was Meredith. First, we met his sister, Amelia, from whom Derek has been estranged. Turns out they both witnessed the murder of their father, and that shared experience drove them apart rather than together. While I was glad to see they had made progress by the end of the episode, I was also happy that their tumultuous relationship wasn't tied up in some neat little bow either. Life is more complicated than that. Speaking of which, don't you just want to say to the writers: Why haven't you shown us Derek and Cristina together before now? They are incredible together. Cristina is still incapacitated by PTSD, and it's Derek who steps up to help her in a way that I certainly didn't foresee. In a series of beautifully written and acted scenes, he reveals that while he respects Cristina professionally, they have become "family" on a personal level. It's fascinating to watch him step in and care for her in a way that contrasts markedly for most of the episode with his interaction with his own sister. From the way he reached out to Cristina (and Owen, too) to the way he finally found a way to connect with Amelia, I absolutely loved Derek in this episode and both Patrick Dempsey and Sandra Oh rocked the material. Other Things I Loved Owen telling Cristina he will love her no matter what, while reinforcing that she also needs to love herself. Cristina telling Owen that she can't sleep without him there (heartbreaking, but so sweet) and him rearranging his schedule to be there for her. Meredith setting Callie straight about throwing Cristina out of her home. Callie setting Mark straight about how he needs to back off regarding Lexie ... at least for now. The Chief helping Alex conquer the elevator. April getting a backbone and calling everyone out on their garbage. Bailey and the Spider. Callie and Arizona's encounter and the looks on Owen and Cristina's faces in reaction to it. Mark realizing that love may not be enough for him and Lexie. Teddy aka "Attachment Barbie" realizing that she makes poor romantic decisions by choosing men who are unavailable. Derek comparing Meredith and Cristina to E.T. and Elliot. Of course it's the big things in our lives that shape us. But it's also the little things, the little daily things that make us who we are. Baby steps. www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anatomy/greys-anatomy-fan-columnist-ba-38327.aspx#comments?
