Dad Savage released 5 June 1998 (UK) 104 mins
Genre - Crime, Thriller
Released theatrically in the U.K. but consigned to video in the USA.
Ok this one was one of our hard to find movies until spotted on Amazon but only in VHS formate ..... Oddly I discovered that it has actually been shown on our National Broadcasting channel way back before the likes of PVR's/DVR's and DVD plays LOL.....
Synopsys (IMDB)
A wealthy, successful, East-Anglian tulip grower, Dad Savage is also something of a godfather in the local criminal fraternity but doesn't trust banks to take care of his money. On recommendation from his son, Sav, Dad hires two of Sav's unemployed school friends, Bob and Vic, to help with the business and the crime. After some careless talk from Harold, just known as 'H', about Dad's pension fund, Vic and Bob decide to steal the money from Dad if they can find it. The plans to liberate the money go awry and Sav is killed requiring Bob to call upon his sister Chris to rescue them. Dad intercepts their escape and forces a showdown to try to determine exactly the events of the night in order to identify his son's killer.
Kevin Takes the Part of H (Harold) once again a Blond, curley haired, wearing intelligent glasses Kevin with a more British accent. I was surprised that this movie wasnt available as a DVD as the main star is old ex star trekker Patrick Stewart. I always enjoy Patrick Stewart in a movie even though this character was rather different for him, actually a bit rediculous after watching him as Jean Luc Picard for example Steward Line Dancing yes you read right . Of course we once again see Helen McCrory (Anna Karenina, Does God Play Football, North Square) in a rather fiesty role of Chris and for those who watch Hustle on BBC you might recognise Marc Warren as Vic. Not to mention Joe McFadden (Small Faces) as Bob.
Its hard to talk about Kevins role in this movie without given to much away but he is an intrigal part of the stroyline, although we see little bits of H though out the movie his lines are miminal. Those who have seen will understand what I am trying to say :-) As you can read from the Synopsys H gives away information to Vic and Bob about Dad Savages Pension fund which sets the ball in motion for the premises of the movie. The ending well I guess I cant really give you my thoughts or it will give it all away.
I found this movie not a comfortable experience to watch, saying that I feel thats what they set out to achieve and in the end its a most enjoyable movie. It does flash back and forward though the first 3 quarters/half of the movie but finally it does all come together. If you haven't seen it, it is a must. I have spotted it a few times on US tv schedules over the last year.
I do have a clip up on zoopy and a few screencaps up under multimedia on this board (sorry they are not great quality as I cant copy a VHS to make proper caps this was done with my digital camera)
