Grey's Anatomy Recap: "Things We Said Today" Season 9, Episode 10 Jan 10, 2013 10:20 PM ET by Natalie Abrams [Warning: This story contains major spoilers from Thursday's episode of Grey's Anatomy. Read at your own risk!] Thursday's episode of Grey's Anatomy brought both the best of news and the worst of news. While Cristina and Owen grappled with whether they should get a divorce, Bailey skipped her wedding to perform surgery on Adele Webber. One of these things ended with good news, another with bad. To find out which, we take a look at this week's top moments from the episode. Have your tissues handy! Bailey, the runaway bride: Bailey is midway through treating Adele before she even realizes she's left Ben waiting at the altar. After Adele's surgery is successful, Bailey runs into Ben in the hospital and admits that for a moment, she forgot about him and the wedding. She admits she may not have been sure about marrying him, crying that her ambition killed her last marriage. But, since he's also going to be a surgeon, he understands, and the couple finally jumps over the broom and gets married. Tissue level: ½ a box. Cristina and Owen, reunited: Picking up minutes after the midseason finale, Cristina and Owen find themselves in the on-call room, rekindling the flames. After dealing with some unsavory bikers, Owen comes to realize that he and Cristina should have never gotten married. Once they're out of the confined box of a marriage, they can no longer hurt each other. But (surprise!) they decide, at least based on their passionate kiss, to stay together! Tissue level: Just a few... for Owen. Callie and Arizona, rekindled: Arizona is disheartened to hear that Callie actually told Bailey to run. Seeing that Callie may be wavering, Arizona decides to get them a room, though rediscovering their sexuality is definitely awkward. After Arizona asks her to leave the room so she can take off her leg, Callie returns to find Arizona still dressed with her leg on. She's not ready to have sex yet, so they decide to watch movies, drink champagne and have an old fashioned make-out session after Arizona begs Callie not to run. Tissues level: ¾ of a box. April and Jackson, divided: April and Jackson attempt to stand their ground by using their intern dates as distractions to not sleep together. Fortunately for Jackson, he finds more than that in Stephanie, whom he ends up sleeping with despite insisting they wouldn't. Unfortunately for April, Shane is completely awkward around her since he thinks April just wants to sleep with him since interns are like sexual catnip at Seattle Grace. However, he really doesn't, leading to an awkward moment when he rebuffs her and she worries he thought she was sexually harassing him. Tissues level: Just two or three to wipe off some steam in Jackson and Stephanie's sex car. Alex and Jo, the misfit doctors: Though all the doctors are being called back to the hospital, Jo can't go since she's already started drinking. Alex decides to stay behind with her and get sloshed, bonding with her over their rough childhoods. Eventually, Jo breaks out in tears causing a scene, but it turns out she was just messing with him. (Goodness, she's terrible.) But she teaches Alex that men crying is even more heartbreaking, which works in their favor when they finagle a room key belonging to someone else. Tissue level: 0. We still don't like her. And we're starting to lose respect for him if this is his new love interest. Webber, the widower: Webber almost goes off the rails when Adele is brought in, accusing her caretaker of not being more vigilant. Webber even nearly punches the guy after he comments that Webber never visits. Wracked with that guilt, all he can do is watch from the gallery — with Leah taking care of him — as Bailey and Meredith try to fix Adele. Eventually, with some help from the former chief, Adele is stable and even comes out lucid, recognizing her husband... one last time. Richard shows up to the wedding, but doesn't break the bad news to Bailey lest he ruin her wedding: Adele died of a heart attack. Tissue level: All the tissues left in the world. How many boxes of tissues did you go through — a whole one once you saw Adele in that wedding dress with their song, "My Funny Valentine" playing in the background, right? Grey's Anatomy Recap: Love, Loss and Liquor Grey’s Anatomy returned Thursday night with hookups, sob stories and a tragedy or two. Here, we relieve the episode’s biggest moments. WEDDING BELL BLUES | After saving Adele’s life, Bailey runs into her waiting fiancé Ben at the hospital and admits that during a tense moment in the operating room, “I forgot about you and the wedding.” And it won’t be the last time because she’s a surgeon with ambitions, she tells him, which killed her last marriage. But rather than getting angry, Ben reminds her that he, too, has dreams of becoming a doctor, so they’ll make it work even if they only see each other in five minute increments every three months. The two get hitched, but the romantic affair becomes hinged with sadness when Webber shows up. “You’re here,” Meredith says surprised, knowing that can only mean bad news for Adele. As it turns out, she suffered a heart attack post-surgery and died. As everyone watches Bailey and Ben dance, Webber imagines himself and his wife swaying to “My Funny Valentine.” THE INTERN SHUFFLE | Avery and April’s intern dates to the wedding both turn out to be a little more than they bargained for. Avery tries to resist Stephanie – “You need to stop. You are not gross, and you are not Karev,” he tells himself – but ends up making out with her in the car. On behalf of viewers, she asks him to never put his shirt back on. Meanwhile, April compares Shane to having dinner with Ripley’s Believe It or Not, but he’s just ratting off trivia to push off her so-called advances. Finally, he confronts her and says he’s come too far to sleep with his mentor. “I was being nice,” April replies, horrified at the thought that he may feel sexually harassed by her. Awkward! ALEX AND JO SITTING IN SOMEONE ELSE’S ROOM | Since they’ve had alcohol while waiting at the wedding, Alex and Jo are forced to stay put at the bar when paged. They end up bonding over what basically amounts to a competition about who’s story is sadder. Alex reveals to Jo that he was in juvie and mentions his schizo mom and abusive dad. She counters with a tale about a horrible foster home in which all the kids slept in the basement and had to pee in buckets, which the older kids then… Well, you know. Except psych! She just saw it in a movie. The fake shenanigans continue when Jo decides to prove that a crying woman freaks everyone out. Alex pretends to yell at her for losing their room key. She promptly bursts into tears, he follows, and soon the front desk clerk is handing them the key to “their” room, where they drunkenly revel in the minibar and bathrobes of the real occupant. ALL IN GOOD TIME | Callie and Arizona’s attempt to get their groove back by ditching the wedding for some alone time in a hotel room proves to be a little more first date awkward than sexy. Arizona asks Callie to wait in the bathroom while she takes her prosthetic leg off, but then can’t go through with it. “I wanted to be spontaneous and fun, but I can’t,” she says. “I’m not ready. Please don’t be mad.” Instead, they order champagne and make-out in bed to a movie, but not before Arizona makes a request of her other half: “Please don’t run.” “After the car accident, you never left my side,” replies Callie. “Not once. There’s no way I’m leaving yours.” A FRESH START | Another marriage came to an end as Cristina and Owen signed their divorce papers. “We should never have gotten married in the first place,” Owens says. “When we did, we took something beautiful and we put it in this box. For the last two years, all we have done is beaten against those walls and teared each other apart.” But once they sign those papers, “We don’t hurt each other anymore.” So they do, tears falling down both their faces as they kiss. So the end is only the beginning? Grey’s fans, what did you think of the episode? Are you sad about Adele’s death? Do you see Alex and Jo hooking up any second now? And did Cristina and Owen do the right thing? tvline.com/2013/01/10/greys-anatomy-season-9-recap-adele-dies-cristina-owen-divorce/

Bailey's wedding guests, not to mention her groom-to-be, wonder why she's yet to walk down the aisle. They have no idea she's desperately trying to save Adele Webber's life. Ben learns that his bride-to-be is busy with an emergency surgery, so he opens the bar and buffet to all the guests. Arizona suggests she and Callie take some tasty-looking macaroni & cheese cupcakes to go. She booked them a room. Callie, who anointed herself maid of honor, may want to carbo-load for what Arizona has in mind. Meredith stops Richard from decking the guy who runs the place where Adele was living. She then heads off to assist on surgery for a massive aneurysm. Leah is sent up to the observation room to keep an eye on Richard, who believes she should be downstairs learning. But there's no way the intern is leaving his side. Bailey and Meredith are out of options to save Adele until Richard barks instructions over the intercom. His suggestion works. Adele is out of the woods and grateful to see Richard by her side when she wakes up. Cristina and Owen never make it to Bailey's wedding ceremony. They are too busy making love in an on-call room. Then they are overrun with patients when members of a motorcycle gang are rushed into the hospital after a massive pileup. A nerdy-looking guy named Stuart was riding with the bikers. He blames himself for the crash. The leader of the gang, a feisty lady who goes by the name of Gasoline, wants to see Stuart. Owen fears she wants to punish the guy. abc.go.com/shows/greys-anatomy/episode-detail/1056050

Where to begin? In "Things We Said Today" Grey's Anatomy picked up right where it left off in the winter finale, "Run Baby Run", and showcased pretty much every couple on the show (and even a few wanna-be couples) in various stages of their relationships. Cristina and Owen After that passionate smooch in the last episode, I've got to start here. The news is mixed. Cristina and Owen were reunited (and, man, does anyone do "hot-yet-tender" like these two?) yet still opted to sign the divorce papers. My inference, however, is that they're still very much in love and very much together, just no longer married. While I can appreciate a fresh start for my beloved couple, I'm not quite sure yet how I feel about this turn of events, especially since I feel that their marriage was neither a mistake nor a cage. I think I'm going to have to wait and see where this all leads before I can weigh in more fully. Either way, Sandra Oh and Kevin McKidd continue to demonstrate the amazing connection and deep, abiding love that Cristina and Owen share, so I'm intrigued to see what's coming next. Plus, since Cristina and Owen belong together, I guess this is a start and preferable to the heretofore endless angsty despair CO fans have been enduring. Lemonade out of lemons, peeps! Alex and Jo Don't get me started. Can not stand her. Can not stand them. Can not stand who Alex becomes when he is with her. No. No. No. Shonda Rhimes has promised viewers a true love for Alex. One who won't leave him. Not Jo! Not Jo! Not Jo! I love Alex and I hate this storyline. Rant over. Moving on. For now. April and Shane and Jackson and Stephanie I had to laugh at April and Shane's mortification at their misunderstanding and I sincerely hope that April will be nothing more than a mentor to Shane. Someone in this hospital needs to teach a student without getting romantically involved with them. Speaking of which, Jackson, what were you thinking? I know that Glam Stephanie is beguiling but she's an intern! You aren't Sloan (RIP). You aren't Karev. Stop it now. You heard me. Meredith and Derek and Callie and Arizona It's kind of sweet that MerDer is together forever and all that and that he promised to never put her in a nursing home. Likewise, Callie and Arizona are getting back on track. Having said that, why is marriage a mistake and a cage and a box for Cristina and Owen but just dandy for everyone else? Just asking. Miranda and Ben Speaking of marriage, how did you like that old bait and switch? ABC's promo department worked overtime to make viewers think that Bailey and Ben's wedding was in question but surprise! In an extremely refreshing move, Ben completely understood both the extenuating circumstances and the woman he loves. Cue the quick edit to the vows. Aw... Richard and Adele And, finally, in the heartbreaker of the night, Miranda and Meredith saved Adele's life only to have her pass away of a heart attack off-screen in a poignant twist. The scene of Richard and Adele dancing to their song "My Funny Valentine"? Be still my heart. www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anatomy/greys-anatomy-recap-til-death-48847.aspx

TV GREY'S ANATOMY RUNDOWN, "THINGS WE SAID TODAY" UPDATED JAN 11 2013 - 4:00PM · POSTED JAN 11 2013 - 3:55PM BY BECKY KIRSCH Grey's Anatomy is back from midseason hiatus this week, picking up exactly where we left off in December. Guests have gathered for Bailey's wedding, but she's stuck at the hospital operating on Adele, who's been rushed there with an aneurism. In the aftermath episode, the doctors are left to their own devices as they wait for the runaway bride, and by "own devices" I mean, in many cases, sex. Callie and Arizona seize an opportunity for some hotel-room time, Jackson channels his inner Karev, and Karev himself gets even closer with Jo (or should I say "Hobo Jo"?). The episode isn't without its sad news, but on the bright side, we do finally get to see Bailey and Ben's first dance. Let's break it all down when you read more. While the guests are waiting around for Bailey to get out of surgery, Arizona comes up with the idea to rent a hotel room for her and Callie for some much-needed sexy time. Unfortunately, they never get past first base because Arizona is still too insecure about her leg. She also admits that she's a little paranoid that Callie is going to leave her, especially after Callie confesses that she had told Bailey to run. However, Callie assures Arizona that she's not going anywhere, and they have a very sweet few hours together, complete with room service. And a TMI phone call to Derek from the bathroom. Annoyed with the fact that they're stuck with each other as dates, Karev and Jo take to drinking and trading horror stories from their childhood. Jo earns the upper hand when she learns that she can make Karev believe just about everything — especially if she cries. The two then hilariously stage a fight, complete with tears, to finagle a free night at the hotel. I loved everything about these two in this episode, especially since Karev is finally enjoying someone's company without sleeping with them. Speaking of sleeping with people, Shane is convinced that April is trying to get in his pants, while Stephanie considers hooking up with Jackson. Shane's paranoia comes to an awkward head when he calls April out on her actions and she firmly denies any "sexual harassment," but Stephanie's night takes a different turn. After some OR flirting, she and Jackson get it on in his car and, needless to say, miss Bailey's big day. Thankfully, Bailey herself doesn't miss her wedding. She spends the day in the OR working on Adele and finally gets a visit from Ben. At first it seems like it's curtains for the couple, as Bailey confesses that she forgot about the wedding for a second and is afraid her ambition will get in the way of their relationship. But Ben adorably accepts her for all of her goals in life and says he wants to marry her even if they only get to spend five minutes together every month. Aww. Sadly, there is a dark cloud over Bailey's happy day; when Meredith sees Webber at the reception, she strikes up a conversation about how Adele's doing. We all knew what he was about to say: Adele passed away after Bailey had left the hospital to head to her wedding. It's a bittersweet moment through and through, as Webber watches Bailey's first dance and reflects on his own wedding with Adele. Cristina and Owen are among the few who don't make it to the wedding at all; instead, they hang back at the hospital to sleep together and ponder their relationship. Ultimately, Owen makes the decision that they should get a divorce since marriage ruined their relationship. They both sign the papers with tears rolling down their cheeks, but it's a hopeful moment, as they face their relationship together once again, but with smiles. www.buzzsugar.com/Greys-Anatomy-Recap-Things-We-Said-Today-26758305

The things we say in the doctor’s office are vital... They are all useful and sometimes, if not utilized, can result in a twisted incident of fate where things can go from good to completely terrible in a matter of hours. The emotional return of Grey’s Anatomy Season 9 premieres strong, with the drama, romance and humor that makes the series all the more special in the new year! Bailey ran and now it’s time to face her hesitations head on. You know your watching a Shonda Rhimes classic when the happily ever afters are dramatically paired with life-altering consequences, one of them being a tragic death. This hour picked up right where the previous installment left off, with Adele Webber’s life held in the balance and a much-anticipated wedding put on hold. The consequences of the dramatic change is full of laughs, love, tears, other influxes of emotion and even one of the most fun patient cases we’ve gotten in some time. The wedding must go on! But while it remains stagnant, the doctors of Seattle Grace-Mercy West tend to their own personal issues. Callie and Arizona have not been in a spectacularly sexy mood since the plane crash that changed their lives. And who can blame Arizona? After all Arizona has lost a leg and literally feels like less of a woman than she used to be. How can her lover, Callie look at her as confidant and sexy, when she, herself doesn’t. It’s an incredibly sad situation, especially when Arizona doesn’t even want Callie to see her take off her prosthetic leg. It doesn’t help that Arizona picks up on some hints that Callie may be thinking of running from their difficult new life together. This life-altering event in the two women’s lives has been challenging and has pushed them both to their breaking points, so it is understandable that Arizona would be frightened of losing Callie because of it. When presented with the question of running or staying and sticking it out, Callie assures Arizona that she’s not going anywhere, as long as that’s what she wants. Hopefully these two women will be able to gain the steam back in their relationship soon, because their scenes in this installment are the closest to perfect as possible.
