It was an evening of newsy revelations on last night's episode of Grey's Anatomy. And, as usual, Meredith told us just that in her hour-opening voiceover. "The big day is here," she intoned, in her usual, wiser-than-you way. "The day you're going to hear the news, the test results. Is the biopsy malignant or benign? Am I gonna live or die? You just want to know. Because then you can move on -- whatever that means." The two big news beats that she's referencing? The details about the plane crash lawsuit -- Seattle Grace may be going down! -- and then also, Meredith's big reveal (to the other doctors at Seattle Grace besides hubby Derek, at least) that she was pregnant. Let's start with the continued fallout from the crash. It wasn't but minutes into the hour that we found out the Seattle Grace doctors who were affected by the crash had won a summary judgement -- and they'd be taking home hefty settlements of $15 million (!). "Each," as were dramatically told by Cristina. Callie -- who was affected by the plane crash via wife Arizona but has sort of taken to being one of the survivors of the incident -- proposed that they "celebrate" the judgement before backpedaling and corralling everyone (rather begrudgingly) for just a dinner. The money was, rather obviously, a topic amongst the doctors at Seattle Grace. In the elevators -- where everything important happens, of course -- benefactors Meredith and Cristina were joking about what they could do with the money. "We could buy five houses with yards as big as football fields," Cristina proposed. "We could buy the teams to play on the football field," Meredith offered. To which Yang added: "'Mo money, 'mo problems." And Karev -- who wouldn't be getting a $15 million check -- said: "I shoulda been on that plane." The sentiment certainly makes sense in the wake of so much money being thrown around but I can't really believe that he would have wanted to be on the plane that killed two and crippled two of his colleagues. But the comment also totally and completely smacks of Karev. Read more: tvrecaps.ew.com/recap/greys-anatomy-season-9-episode-11/

'Grey's Anatomy' Recap: A $90 Million TwistI quite enjoyed this installment of Grey's Anatomy, which is just a bit surprising because it was one of those funny episodes that pop up from time to time. One huge development notwithstanding (more on that later) most of what transpired here wasn't major at all in terms of plot. Yet this was not a "filler" episode but was, instead, extremely revealing in regards to character. As a result evenness and complexity permeated the proceedings and I found myself feeling very satisfied on the whole. As "The End is the Beginning is the End" opened, viewers discovered that a month has elapsed since our last outing. Meredith is safely through the first trimester of her pregnancy. Derek is rehabilitating his hand. Cristina and Owen are divorced yet happily together. Richard is mourning Adele. Jackson's still sleeping with Stephanie. Alex and Jo are friends. Arizona no longer uses her cane. And Bailey is back from her honeymoon. A Fresh StartIn an odd turn of events, divorce may just be the best thing that even happened to Cristina and Owen. They are together and really, really happy. Be still my heart. This episode was filled with adorable, loving, funny moments and their banter is sexier than ever. My favorite parts, however, ran more deeply than that. At last Cristina and Owen are communicating openly and honestly. Better still, they are clearly in each other's corner. I loved it when Cristina faced off with Derek and rightly came to Owen's defense. Best of all was when Cristina wanted Owen to be at the celebratory dinner because his presence would make it better. My inference is that this couple has remembered at long last that their being together makes everything better and that when they are apart, nothing is quite right. Moving OnRichard is paralyzed by guilt. Meredith is overcome with fear. Derek is filled with resentment. All three make progress by episode's end as they grapple with blame and bravery and acceptance. Richard knows he can not undo his choices but takes baby steps to grieve his wife's passing, while placing Catherine Avery firmly in the Friend Zone for now. Meredith finally allows herself to be happy about her pregnancy and shares the news with Callie, Arizona, and BFF Cristina (who had already figured it out, of course). Derek acknowledges that Owen really isn't to blame for the plane crash and offers forgiveness and a return to normalcy. It was all very poignant and rather lovely. Unexpected DevelopmentsOf course, it wouldn't be Grey's Anatomy without some twists, right? Bailey's honeymoon was revealed to be an absolute debacle. Alex and Jo (of whom I still am not a fan but managed not to loathe, so that's progress of a sort) are platonic buddies...at least for now. Jackson is still sleeping with Stephanie despite clearly having deep and lingering feelings for April, who is obviously devastated by the whole mess. Speaking of which, what a mess this lawsuit storyline has turned out to be. Ay yi yi! Apparently the case was settled in record time because the doctors requested something called a summary judgment and, low and behold, they won! $15 million. Each. There's much relief (and stunned disbelief) all around. Callie insists on going out to celebrate which seemed sort of inappropriate and icky until she revealed that her intention was to remember the dead (RIP, Mark and Lexie) and to honor the survivors (of which Alex wished he were one...foreshadowing much?). And so everything seemed great except that, again, this is Grey's Anatomy so I knew the other shoe had to drop at some point. The Loophole and The FalloutAnd just like that, there it was. Owen turned down Derek's invitation to join the gang for dinner (awww...Bromance resuscitated!) and returned to his meeting with the hospital's lawyers. Turns out that the insurance company had found a way to get out of paying the claim (there could only be two Attendings on the plane and when Robbins took over for Karev that made three) so now Seattle Grace Mercy West has to pony up $90 million. And since it can't do that, the hospital is now bankrupt. I hate it when that happens. Is this the end for SGMW? Will the hospital somehow come up with the money? How will the survivors respond to this news? And, in the name of all that is right and good, can we please find someone other than Owen to blame for this fiasco? Since this is a television show set in a hospital, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that there are more twists yet to come. 'Grey's Anatomy' Recap: Winning Isn't Everything The verdict on the plane crash lawsuit is in and it isn't good news for everyone. The verdict is in from the lawsuit stemming from last season's deadly plane crash and while it's good news for the survivors, it's anything but for Seattle Grace During Thursday's "The End is the Beginning is the End" episode, Meredith, Derek, Cristina, Arizona and Callie learn that they won the lawsuit -- and are awarded $15 million each -- that will be paid from the pocket of the hospital's insurance company. Learning that the plane the doctors were flying in had a history of mechanical problems, the hospital is found at fault -- with Owen still on hot water with Derek for having put everyone on the plane. Only there's a catch -- the insurance company has found a loophole in the fact that no more than two attendings are allowed on a mini-plane. Refusing to pay, Seattle Grace now has to come up with the massive payout that it can't afford -- and will be forced to go bankrupt and close its doors. Meanwhile, the survivors humor Callie at a dinner to "celebrate" the settlement. Despite everyone's misgivings about celebrating the end of a case that involved the death of Mark and Lexie (sniff), the awkward mean ultimately turns into a sweet and memorable one. "It feels weird, sad and wrong but it also feels exciting. I miss Mark and Lexie and I’m heartbroken that they're not here," she says during a toast. "But I'm also grateful that all of you are and I'm going to celebrate that and we're going to toast." It's during the toast when Meredith refuses the champagne that she finally tells everyone -- including Cristina, who had already figured it out -- that she's pregnant -- and happy. Cristina, meanwhile, has found happy place with Owen after their recent divorce as they couple has really bounced back to the early days of their romance. It's a payoff that's more than welcome as Kevin McKidd and Sandra Oh's loving banter has been sorely missing this season. Other highlights from the episode included growth in Alex and Jo's relationship as they bond over a bet on Derek and Shane's ping-pong match to strengthen the former's hand. Alex, for his part, has never had a girl who was a friend that didn't want to sleep with him. They're cute and the writing is clearly on the wall for these two. Not to be outdone, Jackson and Stephanie's relationship has progressed to the point where he's helping her land on his service. In a heartbreaking scene, he also confesses his relationship with Stephanie to April, who tearfully admits she both misses him and isn't ready to be his friend again. As for the Chief, Webber is back at the hospital after a month off to mourn the recent passing of his wife, Adele. But there's a catch (naturally): he's not operating because he feels tremendous guilt over not being there for her in her final days and opting to romance Jackson's mom, Catherine, instead. After lashing out at Catherine, he apologizes for lashing out and tentatively seems very tentative about returning to their relationship. What did you think of the episode?
