I was excited for this episode, and I certainly expected a whole lot of anvils for the themes of the final third of the season. But I was so disappointed with how heavy handed every single anvil moment was that the whole thing just felt forced. Thank god the kid could act. Im going to sleep now, because I am not immune to kmk induced ovary explosions however.

LMAO -- Dr. Wyatt, I may need to invest in a new keyboard now, thank you very much!
I agree with you on the anvil complaint. I found myself pretty bored through this episode -- there simply wasn't ENOUGH of "Owen bonds with kid" in it for me, and none of the other current relationships being angsted over are ones I find at all compelling (except for the brewing fight between the interns -- I do like Shane and Heather... which is maybe a not-so-good sign, when I'm finding the annoying new interns among the best parts of an episode...)
I was expecting more bonding time between Owen and Ethan, tho'. I'll cross my fingers for next week! And I loved seeing Owen as the ringmaster of his brand spankin' new techno-ER!

For me it was exactly the opposite. I did not expect Owen and Ethan would get so much time together (or my expectations are set really low right now ). Great scenes. KMK is the master of subtlety. There are people who grow with time on being parents, there are so people who never want to be (certainly no problem with that) and there are some who are made to be parents. And Owen is made to be a parent. This episode showed that being a parent is part of who he is. Of course this being Shondaland, and Owen being a guy we might be headed to a major screw up. Who knows, maybe this time will be different. Great scenes for Cristina/Owen as well. There are certainly major steps in them communicating better, even though some things still need to be dealt out with (*cough* kids issue *cough*). We are headed for that in the next episodes.

I actually thought they came on too strong and heavy with the Owen and kid bonding thing. I needed a more subtle build up. And I do wish the writers would quit falling back on the old Owen mistrusts Cristina's medical recklessness/Owen admires and respects her as a cardio god waffling. Which is it? Has he learned to respect her judgement or not? It just feeds the haters. But anyway I am fully preparing myself for a tense CO cliffhanger for the brief hiatus we will have. I thought the Kawasaki's disease storyline was shoehorned in to a show that it really didn't fit. Surgeons would just not be involved with this case at any level in the real world. It was a very noble thing to do, but it would have fit better on ER. I totally did not get where the genome mapping was coming from and now I feel like, how could I have missed that?!

Has he learned to respect her judgement or not? Cristina is still fellow. No matter if she says she is the boss now, she isn't (her being the boss refers to the administrative role, not medical). Russell is her boss because he is the attending, the specialist and the head of the department. Asking a second opinion from someone who has more experience does not mean he does not trust her judgment. It's never a bad thing to ask for a second opinion. Any good and responsible doctor would not have a problem with that. Secondly I think what we were meant to see there was Owen behaving more like a worried parent, than a doctor. Re the Kawasaki disease case you are absolutely right. He had nothing do on a surgical wing. But remember that Mer own the hospital (per her own saying) and she can do whatever she wants . So I guess we just have to roll with that.

...have just seen the clips in YT...owning a hospital means that you can do whatever you what...really ? The last straw...! Please people just shut their mouth when those characters have to tell such idiot and stupid thing !
What can I say, Owen is made to have a family of his own. cristina is top focuse on her career and job, and is now clueless about the subtle "change in Owen's behavior". What will be the wake up call for Cristina if there is one for her to see Owen and his need for a family of his own ?

I really liked how you put the words for Owen in the part that I highlighted. Owen has found his son, at least for a few episodes... Beautiful acting duo - Kevin and Kyle. I already love them together. I also cannot identify with the co-owners superpower rights. I find it disgusting. Why was Meredith helping Cristina suddenly with Ethan´s father? When did she manage to do it? She had her own important patient!!! Just to disrespect Owen and side with Cristina, to show she is her true person again? Shonda´s "clever" move again. I am exhausted of it.
