just quick impression about today's episode. I think it was a little slow for the only having 3 more episodes till Season finale but overall a good one. things I liked: * Alex and Cristina friendship. I always liked those two together, they really behave like siblings * Bailey and the "former" chief : I knew she would only show some weakness to him, and as a lot of people used to do when feeling attacked, she went full attack on him. * Owen and Cristina brewing the kids conversation. I can't stand Owen suffering that much, I want to hug him! (by the way, the elevator scene was sooo sweet) and ... since when does Cristina cook? What I didn't like: * Jo and Alex declaring his love for her: it is not new that I don't like her. He deserves better and I want a woman with a background that can add to his storyline. We had already a trailer park princess and it was one too many . * Bailey's interrogation: way too long, The point could be made sooner and use the time for much needed move forward in other SLs I will have more thoughts about it later... let us know what you guys thought about the episode!

Seconded!
I agree; across the board! I really don't like this storyline for Bailey, but at least she's doing something. She's been wasted this season. And I so do NOT care about April's petty, passive-aggressive, blame game behavior. Jackson, just walk away from the crazy girl and count your blessings, will you? (Pssst! Jackson! "Jodi Arias". Just sayin!)
It is marvelous to see the steps Cristina has made this year. I loved her telling Meredith "No" (which she then reversed on -- pity!), and I love how she's woken up and smells the coffee WITHOUT there having to be flower delivery vehicles running her over. She is seeing Owen, and recognizing his needs. She reversed herself on Meredith's bowels. Can a reversal be on the way regarding children? I sure hope so!

ITA also with betinad and browncoatwhit. I basically liked (and disliked) the same things they did.
I watched this episode in "real time" (which is unusual for me lately) and I have to admit that I missed having a fast forward button. Not just to avoid the commercials, but also because some of the stories really do not hold much interest for me. Being forced to actually watch Alex and Jo interact reminded me that I really haven't warmed up to that pairing. At all.
I was glad Cristina said no to Mer's initial request about being present at the birth, but I wish she had refused for a different reason. Mer is not an unwed mother asking her BFF for support rather than going through the birth alone. She has a very involved husband. It would be refreshing to see Mer focused on her relationship with Derek and on sharing, with him, the experience of their child being born. If she has a strong feeling about how she wants the birth handled and has decided not to take drugs, she and HE should talk about that and have an understanding about it. Instead, Mer wants Cristina there to run interference for her not with the nurses (as she told Derek) but with Derek himself. It really shows how completely dysfunctional all of the core relationships on the show are - - friendships and marriages alike.
And Owen's reaction when Cristina told him was IMO very out of character. The man who once asked Derek "and you're okay with that?" when Derek told him about the ET-level bond between Cristina and Meredith, would have said, should have said: "Isn't that something that Mer should want to share with Derek?" I think Owen's statement about watching a birth being a chance to "see God in person" was just a heavy anvil being dropped on the heads of the viewers to remind us that Owen wants a child. Just in case we've forgotten.
I agree that Cristina has shown a lot of growth in the second half of the season, particularly in relationship to Owen and her awareness of his needs and feelings. But speaking of anvils, there have been many, many reminders of how non-maternal and anti-having-kids Cristina is (at least now - I still maintain she wasn't always written this way). She's become sensitive enough to actually notice that Owen is bonding with Ethan. But her reaction is just to pull back, wait and then declare to Alex that she is going to lose Owen. "I understand" is a big improvement over "you have to rip up your silly list of wants" (or whatever offensive thing she said in therapy), but a far cry from any attempt on her part to, perhaps, get to know the kid herself. She is, for example, Ethan's father's doctor, but we haven't seen her interact with Ethan at all.
So while Shonda is reminding us that Owen is a natural parent and wants to be a parent, she is also continuously reminding us that Cristina really, really, no kidding around, even to make her best friend feel better about declining into Alzheimer's, does not want to be a mother. She has written them into a corner. If they stay together, but one of them has to give up a core part of his or her self, where is the joy in that? At this point, I'm not even sure what outcome I want. I just want my beautiful, magically connected and deeply in love couple from Season 5 back. Right now, I don't see how that is possible, but I guess that's a subject for another thread.

I agree with you all, also just wanted to mention how odd I found it that Owen isn't involved in baileys investigation? He is the chief of surgery, he would be required to participate on some level, I get that the Ethan s/l is dominating, but then again this is a show that forgets simple things like characters can't cook. Lol

Betina, I agree 100% with all of your thoughts.
I will just add, that I am finding this season relatively boring, on the whole.
This episode, like previous ones, had some nice moments. Kevin played those scenes with the kid so heartbreakingly well and you can feel the storm brewing on the child issue between Owen and Cristina which, hopefully, means the real talk is coming. I also enjoyed seeing the Alex and Cristina friendship really blossom. But aside from that I am not finding any storylines all that engaging.
