I thought he did a great job, too! (I could have gone without the Bailey pity party, passive-aggressive fest, however. Bailey deserves better storylines than that!) I loved the C/O material in this episode... increasingly, Cristina and Owen come across as the real grown-ups on the show. The Ethan storyline has me holding my breathe in anticipation...

Kevin has done as always a great job directing. But the writing was a mess. Huge mess. Kevin did excellent with what he was given but I cannot say the same about Dan Bucatinsky. Bailey reduced to a whiny emotional mess who holds grudges on people for no reason at all. ( I fail to understand why exactly they had to apologize for calling the CDC. That's what you do in those situations). Chandra Wilson deserves more than that. As do Sandra and Kevin.
C/O: What exactly was that? More than half of the scene was in the promo. These writers are clearly not capable of writing a real conversation between those 2. All is shoved and dragged endlessly. And I am really getting tired no matter how much I love Sandra and Kevin. What was with Cristina's line "You've changed? You want a kid". What exactly has changed? Owen has always wanted a kid. Cristina knew that. Nothing changed there actually. He wants them, she doesn't. But OK because the super storm will solve it all.

I agree I felt like the episode was going no where but I thought its because they want to build anticipation for the finale.

Regarding Paul's case, no matter how good a doctor could be or extense is this doctor knowledge, medecine and science are sometimes powerless or have no control at all on life's and death's path. Cristina aka "Medecine and Science " has been trying for a couple of episodes to wake up Paul and failed again and again.
Regarding the talk between CO...what are you talking about ? it was a joke. Shonda and her writers have been playing nasty with us !

Great job from Kevin on directing. it is clear that he is getting more comfortable so he took more risks. Also it was a heavy episode on the surgical scenes dept. well done Kevin! (in some cases way too much blood for my taste but ok). Also directing 4 kids in the episode I guess it is not easy. As it was already said, writing was all over the place, but I think that has been a constant during the whole season, I have found it very inconsistent from a writing point of view so no surprises here. What I didn't like: Owen and Cristina 20 sec scene. all the writers keep saying they have the "adult" relationship. Well, I guess that all the writers think the "adult" way to deal with life is brushing all feelings underneath the rug and never talk about anything. We haven't had one single scene of these two talking about their issues in the whole season. I noticed that they look at each other almost knowing that just what they say is not enough and that there is an issue (or it is just my hopeful eyes..) Bailey's SL... when has Bailey become this whiny and weak person? I understand her shock and understand she may get depressed and need support but I for once want characters behaving like adults. Maybe next season they can open the psych wing in the SGM hospital and most of the doctors can become patients... Jo/Alex: what to say .... really? that is the way they will force the couple to us? What I don't care much about: Callie and Arizona and the whole flirting with the new doctor. What I liked: How Richard managed Bailey's situation. Finally one adult! Derek, Mer and Zola tea party! how cute was Patrick with a tiara wondering how much have they laugh on set for those scenes. as you can see... not much I liked Storyline-wise. crossing my fingers for the 2 part SF..

Episode 9.22 was entertaining. Kevin's directing was excellent. The storylines were a little weak but they have been all season so I take it for what it is. As long as Owen and Cristina are together at the end of an episode, then I'm satisfied, even if they only have 30 second scenes. Of course longer scenes would be better as long as they're not fighting, like in Season 8.
I like Arizona and Lauren. I hope Lauren sticks around. Callie is boring this season. The character is not the same without Mark around.
Jo and Alex don't bother me. She's as good for him as anyone else as far as I'm concerned. Somehow I guessed beforehand that she would be battered by Jason.
I don't see what is wrong with showing the "human" side of Bailey. It's not out of the ordinary to question yourself when you've made a mistake or to feel resentment when you feel you've been stabbed in the back by your friends and colleagues. Everything is not perfect with others all of the time. She has every right to turn inward to try to figure things out, which is what I see her doing. Other characters have had their share of drama so there's nothing wrong with giving Bailey a turn at it.

I brought myself to watch the whole episode in detail just because of Kevin´s directing.
It was a great piece of directing work along with great editing which helped to focus on important characters´ reactions. Well, writing is another pat of the story. I expected a lot more from D.Bucatinsky for the TALK. However, the scenes between Ethan/grandmother/Owen were written very well.
I really liked how Kevin brought out the best in every actor, it shows he really thought the scenes through with great insight. Also the guest stars were great. I found the storyline with the magician really interesting. Also the children acted cutely. The boy with Derek was exquisitely cute.
Owen/Ethan/grandmother´s scenes were the best for me,the soccer scene was shot in an artistic way with the big toys Kevin tweeted about. It didn´t feel like they were acting at all, it came off so natural, just both actors spending some time between takes. I really liked Jennifer Bassey in all her scenes, what a great actress.
I must confess Sandra speaking French was really cool. Also Karev wearing that hood listening to the "special" soundtrack.
Not interested in Bailey´s storyline at all, but I liked how Ben comforted her.
And the scene with Derek, Meredith and Zola was adorable, especially Derek with that crown, P.Dempsey did a great job in that scene.

So here are my thoughts about the episode.
I thought Kevin did a spectacular job directing. He just seems to get better and better. The transitions from scene to scene were stellar, the shots were interesting (loved the shot of the soccer from above, the reveal of all of Bailey's tests lined up, the image of Bailey's hands when Ben arrived) and the music choices, which I assume were Kevin's, were spot on. I really did enjoy the episode from the directorial point of view although I do agree that it was a bit bloody for my liking!
As for the writing, however, I am still finding myself pretty bored by it all and disappointed that we are left with only the last 2 episodes to try and have an actual conversation between Owen and Cristina. There was so much promise for this relationship earlier in the season but as usual Shonda has just dragggged it out. In my view, this episode was just supposed to give us the precursor to the talk. So I don't think the writer short-changed us by trying to have us believe this was the talk. I am sure he was told that the talk would come in either the penultimate or ultimate episode, so just to introduce this elephant in the room. But am I so sick of waiting. I don't think I'm alone.
In relation to the rest of it, I love Hilarie Burton so was just glad to see her on my screen. I am not sure where the Arizona storyline is headed with this but I have found Callie and Arizona yawn-worthy in recent times so this could be something to shake things up a bit. I am ambivalent on Jo and Alex. I simply do not care. What I do really enjoy, however, is seeing more of the relationship between Alex and Cristina and I loved the scene of them in the lift at the start. The Derek, Meredith & Zola scene at the end was also really sweet and ditto to what Betina said about seeing Patrick Dempsey in a tiara.

Kevin did a great job directing, I think he is getting more comfortable and trying out different techniques. Even though I could really care less about the Jo/Alex story line, the scene where it showed only half of Jo's face before Alex realized what happened was well shot. It was great seeing him so much in the episode in past episodes when he has directed, he usually doesn't have as much screen time.
The writing was not so great in this episode. I kind of felt like it was just there, and like some have said they seem to be milking the issue that has yet to be spoken between OC on an honest level. given the way the promos have been lately, I wasn't surprised that the conversation was pretty much what we saw in the promo, if you can call it a conversation. I think the scene was just there to establish that something will be coming but it was meant to be unsettling as you could see from Cristina's body language at the end, and how Owen was trying to convince her. It reminded me a lot of the scene outside in "Holidaze" when she gives him an out if he wanted to be with Teddy and he grabs her and kisses her to convince her that he chose her. I think it showed that Cristina is worried that she is going to screw up the chance to be with Owen again, but she finally realizes what she forced him to give up. Even though he supported her through the abortion, it doesn't mean that he is immune to feeling guilty, and I think now she is starting to feel the guilt of what it meant to him, and she doesn't want to hurt him again, but still struggles with the fact that she doesn't want to be a mother. So hoping for a resolution to this, because its really draining to be beaten over the head with this each season.
I liked the interactions with owen and ethan and the fact that it shows Cristina how owen needs that type of dynamic in his life whether its to be a father, or a father-like relationship with someone. Its kind of like how Cristina nurtures meredith without even realizing it. She is Meredith's substitute mom in a twisted way.
Except for the directing, I was vastly uninterested in the rest of the episode. I really am not digging the Alex/Jo storyline, the domestic violence angle doesn't make it interesting to me. It is kind of like the abortion storyline, its a been there done that kind of topic for me, and yet another person Alex gets involved with that he has to 'fix'. I wanted a lot more for Alex this season, but I guess the writers had different ideas. The Bailey storyline was really frustrating to me as is Callie and Arizona. It seems like the writers don't know where they are going with them. I too like the Alex and Cristina friendship thats developing. They are like brother and sister, but as much as I like it, I want her to move out of that house and Im guessing that's why we haven't seen her do it yet because of what the next step might be with owen.
Either way I hoping we get our talk soon if that is all we get in this season so they can move on to the next level of their relationship.
