I'm a bit delayed but here is the thread to discuss last week's episode, which starts an uninterrupted run of episodes to the finale.
What did you think of April's decision? And what aspects of the episode did you like / dislike?

Hated Owen's being a harda$$ on Shane just because Shane slept with Cristina. HATE that. Although I do appreciate that Owen owned it by the end of the episode.

Hated Owen's being a harda$$ on Shane just because Shane slept with Cristina. HATE that. Although I do appreciate that Owen owned it by the end of the episode. Owen was hard (no ass) with Shane because he deserved it. Not because he has slept with Cristina (though he would deserve for sleeping with the boss too) but because the incredible stupid things Shane has done and he did not get any punish for it. A man died because of his mistakes. People say Owen did it because he has slept with Cristina (I think that counted far less, he was more hurt than jealous, and anyone in his place would have felt the same), I say he did because Shane had to be taught a lesson. And what Owen did was not harsh enough. And it's not because he has made an incredible stupid thing but because of his arrogance and airs of superiority and complete lack of any respect for the attendings. He has zero respect for anyone. And that's what Owen taught him. Even after that botched surgery his attitude in the OR was extremely arrogant. Owen's lesson was to teach him some humbleness and respect. Shane didn't need more pampering from Cristina and Weber. He needed a dose of reality. Owen was not an ass, he was fair. If it was for him, Ross wouldn't even be there. And that's the truth. No hospital would have hired him back. But not only he was received back but he got zero sanction. So what Owen did was entirely entitled. I would have been much harsher than he was.

I wish I could agree with your interpretation, but they made it pretty clear that Owen was being a vengeful asshat, and "Board wouldn't let me fire you so I'll knuckle down on you instead" as his excuse. He even owned up to his abuse of power in that exchange with Weber, late in the episode.

He even owned up to his abuse of power in that exchange with Weber, late in the episode. That's what the writers wanted to make us think. I chose not to see it that way, esp given Kevin's interpretations of the scenes. I don't take everything they imply as it is. He was right to do what he did IMO.
