Okay this episode is the reason why I don't trust the Grey's writers to treat Owen's PTSD storyline with proper gravity.
There was too much going on tonight. Literally four separate storylines with no one really getting the attention it deserved. The first half was haphazard lurching from arc to arc. The second half had a bit more focus and some true mirrors for the characters. Still, it was a slog with only a few bright spots IMO. Izzy and Dead Denny: Okay for those who loved Izzy/Denny this is all fine and dandy, though I have a good friend who loved the pairing and thinks this is ridiculous. I get that they are trying to show Izzy's deteriorating mental/physical state but I find the whole thing tedious. He should have gone POOF with the burning sweater. The Interns: These kids are nuts, especially Sadie who is older and should have at least an iota of common sense. Maybe she needs the meds that Izzy is obviously lacking. Meredith's finally realizes this by the end of the episode. Maybe they were spending all their free time doing shots while Derek was trying to sleep and didn't actually talk? Oh, wait, Meredith was reading her mother's journal while sitting on the bathroom floor, which apparently doubles as a library. Yeah, okay, whatever. Try the kitchen at least it's more hygienic. The couple: Nice to see the guy who played Will Bailey on West Wing again. I liked the idea that the wife was too afraid to tell her husband how incredibly paranoid she is. Do I sense a mental illness theme here? The whole 'fecal transplant' thing was just gross. I have no idea how plausible it is and I really don't care. The fallout from the botched surgery made alot of sense but It seems like part of Cristina's issue is pure jealousy over Meredith's past history with Sadie. There are no friends like old friends as the saying goes. Though in Sadie's case maybe it's a good thing they broke the mold. I do think it's a shame that this debacle is probably the reason Cristina loses the solo surgery and has to choose who gets to perform it. And are they going to do an appendectomy on one of the residents or am I just misunderstanding? A few things did stand out amongst all the drech. Aside from Owen/Cristina moments, which I'll get to. Mark comforting the little girl seemed pretty odd at first but by the end it was quite touching. Bailey confiding in Callie made me love both characters all the more. Very human. Both are at a crossroads that they never expected at this point in their careers. I can't stand Izzy but I did like that Alex professed his loyalty for her at the end. It's tough living with someone who suffers from any sort of mental illness. Finally to Owen and Cristina. Not nearly enough Owen but what we got was good. I liked his commentary about words failing while in the surgery. We saw that in spades at the beginning of the episode when he was stuttering in the rain. Interesting moment when the little girl was crying about 'failing' her father. Owen is in the background listening. You get the sense that he is thinking about his role in Iraq. Did he fail his comrades in some way? Or perhaps he just thinks he failed them? Finally to their last scene of the night. Kudos again to Sandra Oh and Kevin. "I think you're beautiful." was definitely my favorite line of the night. You have to wonder what Cristina was thinking when she invited him in. He wanted to but he knew it wouldn't be right. An apology in the standard sense just isn't an option for him so he settles for a compliment that probably says alot more than I'm sorry ever could. It's about Cristina as a person, not just a comment on her physical beauty. So glad that things are still progressing in such a measured way for those two. Bonus, now we know where those leather jacket and jean pics fit in ladies.

I was thinking the exact same thing about the leather jacket pics! Very good review--wow, I don't think I can add anything at all. I did find myself thinking that Kevin's character would be excellent for another "Grey's" Spinoff, maybe even a show revolving around the military and those that serve in other ways than fighting alone. Maybe that is in line with your comment, ruralstar, that his backstory has so much depth and there's not enough time to get to it and all the other character story arcs. Or it could just be nice to have him as the lead male. I'm not biased or anything....

Wow - I went for a lurk around on the GA forums last night and apparently this particular set of writers (mostly wrote for season 4) many didn't like so Im guessing what felt like an overloaded episode was the signature writing style of this set. Interesting
still cant wait to see it....mmm and spin off now thats food for thought

I think the episode would have been 10 times better if they had stuck to the important idea of a man living with undiagnosed epilepsy and the effects the disease had on his daughter. What was going on there for Mark, Derek and Owen as they watched the father/daughter interaction was very engaging. A softer side of Mark was a surprise too.
As for a spin-off...Yeah, I would like to see Kevin back in the lead role of a series if that is what he wants to do. I'm not sure a spin-off created and nurtured by the same team behind GA is a good idea though. *shrugs* Owen isn't in the millitary anymore so he would have to reenlist just for starters.

right I watched this episode in two installments.... first half I found irritating but really enjoyed the second half....Sloan was brilliant and the two major shots of KMK the one in the rain and the other at the end were great.....obviously nicely tied together by the chat during surgery about communication.....(ok and I have to confess I ff during the Denny stuff)
not the best episode but some nice development with the KMK and SO relationship....

My take on this ep for what its worth.. The episode in general felt flat to me since it had way too many storylines and most didn't seem to move forward at the end. As Ruralstar mentioned upthread, it would've been better if they focused on just a few things and tried to wrap those up instead. I think I liked last week's epbetter:-/
The scenes of O/C were not nearly enough, IMO, but the two we got were golden. They both hit a homerun with the acting and conveying the feelings without the need of a lot of dialogue. The first scene of them outside the hospital was heartbreaking for me. I felt bad for Owen since he was trying so hard to say something and stall her for a while, but the things that came out of his mouth were all wrong.
Then in the OR with George and Derek. That was great since it not only fit well with Owen's situation, but also George's (Lexie's feelings for him). Sometimes words just fail. Love the line.
The final scene outside Cris's apt was wonderful. I'm sure Owen had many things on his mind to tell her, but what he said floored me (and I think Cris, too!). I was definitely not expecting that at all. This is why I love some of the writing in GA. Kevin's delivery of the "beautiful" line was perfect. It was simple and understated but it meant so much.
The look he gave her after she asked if he wanted to go someplace else was the most moving, IMO. It was like he wanted nothing else but to be with her at that moment. And I was glad he didn't want to go in her apt. In this day and age of bed hopping, it was refreshing to see. Can't wait to see where this takes them..

Thanks for posting Owencrisfan. I agree about the 'beautiful' line. *points at new signature*. That scene was so well done.
The previous two weeks were far better than this past one with the exceptions I noted previously. *shrugs* Different strokes for different folks I guess. I don't doubt some of the true GA fans are doing cartwheels.

Loving the sig, rural. That was quick! I was reading some comments on the abc board and most people liked the ep. I wasn't feeling most of it except the Callie/Mark, Mer/Cristina and of course O/C scenes cause I'm biased that way. I am wondering though about the Callie/Bailey talk. It looks like Bailey may change specialty. They need a Cardio surgeon if Dr. Dixon is only a temp character, or a Neonatal one since Addison left.

I don't read any boards except for this one when it comes to GA. Been down the fandom road twice already, not interested in a third trip for a show I'm not completely invest in.
In one of the articles I read concerning Hahn's departure Callie was mentioned as possibly leaving as well. I hope not. I like the character and I see alot of genuine drama in her storyline. As for Bailey changing from general surgery to a heart speciality...not sure how plausible that would be. Despite Kevin's assertions to the contrary in the recent tv guide interview I don't see a whole lot of logic being applied to some of these GA episodes.

Many said great things so I will not repeat except - it was really refreshing to see some say "it would be inappropriate" to go up to her apartment.
One thing that I want to add is: I cannot help but think how good McKidd is, esp. when I think about how he was in the first episode of this season. He was a healthy guy with some soft side especially when he was glancing at Cris right before their first kiss. And, in this episode, even when he was saying the sweetest thing, he is not the "before" Owen. He still has that rough edge - he is the "after" Owen. A long journey is awaiting and I look forward to seeing how their relationship will develop.

I started the Yang-Hunt Thread at ABC message board and I shamelessly copied and pasted one of my posts there here. So, last night GA drew its biggest audience since the season premiere. hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2008/11/greys-anatomy-c.htmlThis article says the rating was because of the ghost of Denny but I'll say because of Yang and Hunt - after their hot (albeit scrary) kiss up against the wall! esp. considering how most people do not like Denny's "resurrection" (Sorry, Denny fans- ) Can't wait for the next new episode! Still, it would be nice to see "before" Owen again next week at the rerun of the second part of the first episode.
