This week we have no new episode of Grey's to look forward to due to Thanks Giving (Although ABC Media is advertising the premiere to be aired on the 27th - perhaps someone in the US can confirm this) However since we have nothing to watch this week perhaps its time to look back on the 9 episodes we have had and discuss what we think so far in general ......re Kevin's role/character and the show itself - also what episode has to date been your favorite.... currently these are the ratings : (posted 21Nov) Although "Grey's Anatomy" bungled the Callie-Erica love story, that drama is still No. 4 with 17.8 million. No matter how the show stumbled, it wisely added Kevin McKidd. No. 1 CBS is doing far better than the competition. CBS is succeeding with crime drama: No. 8 "Criminal Minds," No. 10 "CSI: NY" and No. 11 "CSI: Miami." But CBS is doing well with comedy (No. 12 "Two and a Half Men") and news (No. 13 "60 Minutes"). (By comparison, NBC has one bright spot: "Sunday Night Football" at No. 9 with 15 million).(www.bnd.com) (just the episodes Kevin has been in) Premiere 5.01/5.02 12.6/19 5.05 9.5/14 5.06 9.9/15 5.07 9.5/15 5.08 5.9/14 5.09 6.1/15 Post below......

Yes, the premiere will be replayed on Thanksgiving.
I'm not too impressed with the show as a whole. I think they're still too focused on relationships. They should take a lesson from ER in the way it balanced the soap opera drama with medical drama. The writers don't seem to notice or care about the viewer's opinion as in the resounding distaste for the Dead Denny storyline which, amazingly, continues. The show's producers seem to try addressing controversial issues as with Callie/Erica but then inexplicably cut it short in favor of the Denny nonsense. The show is also unbalanced in terms of giving characters equal on-screen time and story lines. Not all of us cry out for more Mer/Der. These faults make me question if Owen/Christina will be handled effectively. That being said, I love the character of Owen. Kevin does a fabulous job of both making the character complete, and portraying Owen's thoughts and desires with little dialogue. Owen shouldn't be a likable guy but he is; a testament to Kevin's talent. I love that Owen is a mix of opposites, both strong and weak. Owen's avant-garde style of medicine is refreshing as is his take on his co-workers and their escapades. It's interesting to watch Owen before and after, and his struggle to get on an even keel. His relationship with Christina is fascinating and endearing. You want them to survive as a couple and enjoy watching them come together as they heal individually and heal one another. Bravo to both actors for their moving and believable characterizations. I'm not a big fan of GA but were I not a huge Kevin fan, I'd still tune in to watch those two. I'm really enjoying the ride.

I am very impressed with how they're handling the Owen Hunt and Owen/Cristina storylines. It feels new and fresh - that's probably aided by the fact that at least a few of the crucial moments between them have occurred in locations we've never seen before (the alley outside Joe's, the stoop of Cristina's apartment) and it looks like it's going to continue on into the next episode (with that flash of the boiler room).
As for the rest of the show, there are things that I like and things that I don't. The biggest thing I don't like is the Denny storyline but I am prepared to reserve my judgment until I see where it goes.
I would like to see Owen interacting with more people throughout the season. Now that Kevin is a regular, I have no doubt that this will happen.

Oh I LOVE that KMK joined this show. And I love that he is paired with Sandra Oh's character. They make a fine couple with complex stories to come.
Well, I share many viewers' thoughts on the Denny storyline. I thought it was problematic that Izzie was allowed to stay after what she did for Denny in Season 2. I am not sure why they are hammering this issue now but my initial guess was that they wanted the viewers to forgive her by showing how she is suffering. But, this story came too late. She broke up George-Callie's marriage by pursuing George after Denny died and I just don't feel her guilt and sadness. The whole story and K. Heigl's acting seem forced. Well, we'll see what happens eventually.
But, I do want to mention that this show started as a soap-opera-like drama as much as (or more than) medical drama. The opening credit that used to be played ended by showing two sets of feet on a hospital bed, which says what the show is about. Now, esp. with the Erica Hahn controversy, people often complain about how this show was supposed to be a (serious) medical drama, but, well, GA distinguished itself from other medical dramas with these stories about (sexual) relationships.
I used to root for the Yang-Burke relationship and we - the fans of the said couple - were granted with baby-step development of that relationship, just like we - the fans of the Yang-Hunt couple - are now. Brief yet emotionally-charged encounters (with a great sense of humor) is what made GA an interesting show and I look forward to seeing this aspect again with this new couple. I wonder if they will use that sense of humor with Owen Hunt's storyline. This season has been relatively intense and since this character has very sensitive topics, I just hope they do it carefully and, I don't know, I think they will.

My favorite episodes have been 5.7 and 5.8, "Rise Up" and "These Ties That Bind" Of course the ends of episodes like "In the Midnight Hour" and "Life During Wartime" were favorite moments.
Regarding Dead Denny, to be fair to the writers/ptb of GA, these episodes were written and filmed months/weeks ago. They could not know how fans would react, though they should have suspected as nobody131's comment implied. If things continue in the same vein later in the season then it will be obvious that tptb are not listening to the fan reaction at all.
I'm not a GA fan as I've said in the past. I have grown to really like certain characters but I think those characters/storylines have been placed on the back burner in favor of fluffier or more sensationalist material. Mer/Der and Mer's relationship with Sadie for the former. Lexie and the looney interns and Denny/Izzy for the latter. I do understand that the series started out from a much soapier place than ER, which is why I did not like it before and why I hate episodes like "In the Midnight Hour". There were exceptional moments in that episode but overall it was badly constructed. Yes I do have huge concerns for Owen's PTSD storyline and the Owen/Cristina Ship in general. Trying to withhold judgment is hard given the show's track record.
I agree that it is a testament to Kevin's acting that we can love Owen for all of his faults. He is a good man tossed into a set of terrible circumstances. He wants to get back to normal. He wants to feel again and he's terrified to try. Baby steps is all he can take but those steps are genuinely dramatic each time we see them. Wonderful casting of Kevin opposite Sandra Oh. Talent to burn those two.
So the series hasn't hooked me, Owen and Owen/Cristina have. I want to see more attention paid to characters like Callie, Bailey, George and poor disillusioned Lexie. Enough with screwballs like Izzy and enough torturing of characters like Alex. They set up some real drama with him by having Rebecca try to kill herself at the end of last season, then they dropped his issues like a hot rock in favor of hers. This type of seasonal arc was long in planning. They need to retool before resuming shooting or all the talent in the world from people like Kevin and Sandra won't mean a d**n thing.
