I dont' know about the baby with a disability theory, but something will happen that brings them back. I also don't think they are going to break up, they will just find themselves in an extremely rough patch.
I always thought Owen would be offered Chief it was just a gut feeling I had since he started that Richard was kind of grooming him for it. Maybe this is an extention of the disturbing news, perhaps Cristina finds out she's not CR and that Owen is the new Chief? That would be a double blow she might not be prepared for.
She will probably think as I said earlier that there is no way she'll be able to advance in her career especially if Teddy is leaving, and will feel like she needs to move on from SGH which will compromise her relationship. If she ends up pregnant I could see how that will kind of put the prospect of her leaving to bed, but it will also put her in a position where she will have to tell Owen where they would ultimately make up.

If she ends up pregnant I could see how that will kind of put the prospect of her leaving to bed, but it will also put her in a position where she will have to tell Owen where they would ultimately make up. Get out of my brain, lady! I stopped by on a late lunch break and came across some of my own thoughts typed out here. I don't think this is about Owen and Cristina separating either but I do think we'll see them facing a turning point in these next two episodes - along the lines of how they step into their marriage and become a team on a deeper level. They'll know they've reached this kind of territory and have a tough go of it but will ultimately grow as a couple because of it. The chief speculation is potential too. There have been hints all along that Webber respects Owen in some of the same ways he has respected Derek but without the layers of mistrust that have seeped into that friendship at times. Owen getting that $1 million grant this season for emergency training, alongside his comments last season to Derek about doing what's best for the most people, and now Webber asking Owen to choose CR seems to have responsibility tests written all over it. And that's one of the things on my list of SF plots for Owen and Cristina if it's not finding out Cristina's pregnant (which I think is still on the list for her.) You're absolutely right that it would be a one-two punch of feeling it was already taxing to have her husband decide who will get a job she's interested in to now having her husband being someone with overall dept. decisionmaking capabilities. I could see them working through their issues alongside Cristina spending time around Meredith and Callie and their children giving her some perspective on what it's like to be around/raise children and then having an unexpected pregnancy. I hope she won't feel the need to leave and have that be complicated by Owen having taken on being Chief since I think he would go with her elsewhere if she felt the need for professional opportunities. Because then if she finds out she's pregnant and decides to stay at SGH it could be interpreted as her letting go of professional opportunities for a baby/Owen. But, more positively, that could also be a good thing, a different kind of life and career both being something she's chosen.

well, with the latest sneak peak it is clear that Cristina will go rogue again with a patient. I am thinking on Owen having to take her out of the CR race due to the issue , and that may open a whole can of worms. WIth this, Meredith and Cristina will get out of the race, and how that will impact them - both professionally and personally - it may be what is in the cards for the time being...
is it Thursday yet? ;D

WIth this, Meredith and Cristina will get out of the race, and how that will impact them - both professionally and personally - it may be what is in the cards for the time being... is it Thursday yet? ;D Well, following that logic, maybe that would take April out of the running too since she seems interested in going along with Cristina in that sneak peek. (And given the sneak peek in which Alex seems to think the only reason to stay in Seattle is if he gets chief resident and the way Lucy's nose goes out of joint, I'm even more convinced he gets the job. He is excited to stay because he gets a kick-butt job and the girl but then he realizes she's not that into someone who doesn't consider their relationship as a plus to staying in Seattle.) Though part of me thinks this procedure Cristina's talking about won't come to pass because it would take place on Owen's service. And really, we have to reopen the unauthorized thoracotomy can of worms in Owen's OR again? Really?! I have to think we're being shown surgery hungry animals for Cristina, Meredith, and Alex for some good reason, i.e. having to face their respective personal/professional dilemmas finally by the SF. And perhaps this is where both Owen's line in the promo, 'you are making a big mistake,' comes in as well as the seeming making up scene for Owen and Cristina in the CTV promo and in the episode photos.

So now we know for sure cris is expecting but I wonder if the shot of her in the exam room table is her attempting an abortion but doesn't go through with it?

Having never had a pregnancy test in a doctor's office I'm not sure if one would need to be on the table to have that done? (Anyone???) Could Cristina ask for an ultrasound given her history? Or Lucy suggests one after looking at Cristina's records? As much as the promo and the arguing is meant to make us think she chooses an abortion - alongside that 'is there a way back' moment tease - I think we're more likely supposed to think she went through with it and then we'll find out she didn't or we'll see them arguing about what to do. But we may not find that out until next season that either she didn't have an abortion or that the end result of their arguing is Cristina deciding to take a chance and find out what else she might be good at - like choosing her marriage - and so she decides to go through with the pregnancy. (As much as I still think it would be dramatic enough - and sort of fitting with all the storyline teases we've gotten for them - to see them agree to have a baby after a day of arguing about it.)

Also just remembered she said in this episode how the tree survived a hostile environment and that she was going to keep it so I wonder if that's foreshadowing that shes not going through with an abortion even though she may think that's her only option if she wants a career

I try I also love how she glared at Teddy after she said that line lol Also remember eventhough she didn't keep the tree it was an instant decisiOn that she changed her mind after so that's why I think she will consider abortion but she's really afraid of what happened last time and needs to be reassured

Maybe Owen thinks it's about CR and then she tells him she's pregnant and Owen steps into it with her. (At least that's what the CTV promo makes it look like with Owen asking her 'do you love me.') That may be the moment in which she tells him she can't do it so they spend the day thinking about how to come back from not going through with the pregnancy and their conversation end of day comes after they've had some time to process it and that's when we get the surprising growth we've been told to expect. I still imagine Owen saying together they can do anything...and that life with Cristina, whether or not they ever have children, is what he wants but she has to let him in. And then she surprises him by doing just that. (And it would somewhat parallel Meredith's career dreams being dashed as she steps into motherhood.)

So she goes for a check up, even though that maybe at that moment she might wanna go with the abortion. I see she is wearing scrubs, very unlike that she's there to get an abortion, she would have wear a hospital gown.. My thinking she is there for an ultrasound..

Yet another reason why I like having Doc Trinity around! Yay - interesting if Cristina is having an ultrasound even as she's freaked out about being pregnant. Another little sign of growth for our girl. Maybe from this she'll finally tell Owen - on camera anyway - about her miscarriage and subsequent surgery?

MAJOR SPOILERY SPECULATION
I have been thinking about the SF promo since last night, and I caught something interesting. In the scene that Owen and Cristina are discussing the pregnancy at their home - we see Cristina wincing and closing her eyes as Owen keeps talking. What if the dilemma is not whether Cristina keeps the pregnancy or not because seriously with Owen as her partner I think they would come to an agreement how to make this work. Plus why would she have to choose between Career / her relationship? It sounds more like the reason would even contemplate not having the baby has more to do the fact that she doesn't have the natural desire to want the baby not that it would impede her career path. What if this pregnancy provides a different "medical" issue than her last (ectopic pregnancy)? What if that pregnancy jeopardizes her eyesight, her life, etc., that would effect her continuing her career - now that would be a real choice once she gets through her initial shock and not wanting to be a mother. It could still happen, but the abortion conflict seem so predictable. Just speculation ; )

I think she is going to have to tell him about the Burke pregnancy at that point. She feels like she's failing at everything lately, at cardio, being cheif resident, etc. and so on. Everything she once defined herself as being is thrown out the window except for the fact that she's still a surgeon, she doesn't see herself as a cardio God. Now that she is also a wife, and apparently is pregnant, I think she automatically thinks she is going to fail especially considering she had to grow up without a father, plus combine that with the physical fears of her last pregnancy, I can see why she is getting an ultra sound. So perhaps she shares the fears of her last pregnancy with Owen after he gets down to the bottom of it, and she goes for the sonogram, and everything is ok, her mind will be at ease in spite of everything that will be going on with Owen. It must be one of those s/l's Kevin and Sandra fought for with the writers to bring back after it was botched at the end of Season 5.

It could still happen, but the abortion conflict seem so predictable. Just speculation ; ) It's an interesting theory, COforever. And ITA that the abortion conflict seems predictable. But this has been the season of predictable. Who didn't know, from the moment that Callie and Mark had their "sorbet sex," that Callie was going to get pregnant? No, I think the abortion conflict is going to be it. And I'll admit that I'm nervous about the outcome. An observation was made above, about how the reference to the tree surviving in a "hostile environment" and Cristina's desire to keep it after the surgery could be foreshadowing of a decision on her part to stick with the pregnancy. But there was another bit of possible "foreshadowing" that makes me nervous. It was in the conference room scene, when Owen tells Cristina the reasons why she won't be made Chief Resident. He says to her "You're a surgeon. Anything that keeps you from being a surgeon will hurt you and it will make you crazy." I think that's setting us up for the decision to be made next week or, more likely, at the beginning of next season. Cristina will see the pregnancy as something that will keep her from being a surgeon, not withstanding the fact that Bailey and Callie both are still surgeons despite having had children. But remember too that it was Bailey's responsibilities as a mother that kept her from pursuing her real dream of being a peds surgeon. Cristina won't have forgotten that, and certainly having a child during your last year of residency doesn't make it easier to get the kind of fellowships that would make it possible to become a goddess in a field as demanding as cardio. As much as Owen may want a child, the way he handled the Chief Resident decision in relation to his wife shows he really does know her well. And he made it clear several episodes ago that he was hoping she would "come around" on the baby issue AFTER a few years had gone by - - after she had finished her residency and presumably her fellowship as well. The timing of this really does stink for them, and with Cristina's other medical issue (one fallopian tube, prior ectopic pregnancy), there has to be a real risk that if they abort this child they will not have to opportunity to change their minds and have another one later, at a more "convenient" time. Owen loves her, knows her, and knows that if this pregnancy "keeps [her] from being a surgeon" (or if she BELIEVES it will, whether it will or not) it could make her "crazy." What will make ME crazy is if this season ends with Cristina having had an abortion and splitting up with Owen, with Mer/Der splitting (as is implied by the promos), and with Meredith and Cristina together without their husbands. If that happens, I may just decide that Grey's is really designed only for teenagers with BFF fantasies, and give up. But that's just my dark side talking. I expect things with C/O and the pregnancy to be left in an ambiguous state, so we can spend the summer wondering what they are going to do. At least the promos imply that she is going to tell Owen about the pregnancy before taking any irrevocable steps. That in itself is hopeful, IMO.

Hope, you made a good point about what Owen said to Cristina in the interview for CR might forshadow what will happen the next episode.. And if - I really really hope not - they go with the childish route that you mentioned with Cristina and Meredith without their husbands then I agree, there is really no point in watching this show. But as I have seen abortion is a delicate subject in US TV shows so I don't know if they'll go there. As much as I know in S2 they changed Cristina's abortion into miscarriage because ABC didn't agree with showing an abortion on a TV show. I hope they don't go there. Because if Cristina will have this abortion without Owen's consent then the damage on their relationship will be big. It will hurt Owen very much and I don't think if he can back from that..
Most probably Owen will try to make Cristina see that she can have a child and be an excellent surgeon and not to see this pregnancy as something that gets in her way of being a excellent cardio surgeon. I believe we'll be left hanging during the summer hiatus wonder what will happen.. I can deal with that.. The abortion IMO will damage CO relationship too much..

At least the promos imply that she is going to tell Owen about the pregnancy before taking any irrevocable steps. That in itself is hopeful, IMO. Get out of my brain Hope! My brain is starting to feel tired already and it's only Friday. Yes, the dilemma here is that Owen does know his wife so well and he will know the kind of thoughts that are likely to be running through her head upon finding out she's pregnant. What we see her say in the promo 'I don't want to be a mother' is nothing new and Owen will feel that he's got no new information to work with but that's what he needs, what they need. To have a conversation, to get at what she feels and needs in this situation so a dialogue develops between them. During the ultrasound Cristina does the same thing - close her eyes, exhales, and runs her hands through her hair - as she does when she gets home and Owen begins talking. She's well and truly freaked. And I do ultimately believe we'll be left wondering how they will resolve this situation until the S.8 SP. Owen knows and loves Cristina. He knows she is a surgeon and he knows he wants her to have the life she deserves - with both professional and personal successes. He wants to be around in 40 years, to be the one who helps her put down her scalpel, both because he wants to be on that life journey with her but also because he knows she will need help letting go of her career when it's time to do so. Yet he also knows himself well enough to know that he both wants to be her husband and partner in life and that he also wants a child with Cristina and to be involved in the decisions about when and/or how that happens. (I'm still going for Owen finally making it plain that being involved in decisions about their shared life is more important to him than the decisions themselves and that will be the key that unlocks this plot in the S.8 SP.) The dilemma for Cristina is will she grow up more than she planned to and come around or will she be excellent as a surgeon, concentrating on doing what she's good at which almost certainly doesn't include believing she'd be an excellent mother. And of course, it's her husband who was able to give her the lesson she needed to hear about concentrating on what you're good at rather than trying to win all the competitions. (Shades of Owen S.5 much?) Yet she knows Owen would love being a parent with her. He's cracked open her dreams for her, reminded her of what they are, can she do the same for Owen by becoming a parent with him? I mean, I still think that Cristina getting pregnant would bring up the thought for her about having to choose, just like she thought she had to choose between being taught and having Owen in her life in S.6. In this instance, if she puts her career first by choosing not to continue the pregnancy that decision would hugely impact her marriage and if she chooses to continue the pregnancy how could she concentrate on being excellent as a surgeon at the same time? I may believe that coming around, deciding to take this pregnancy forward puts her in a more potentially sweet and conflict-laden situation that would be the fruition of both the shifting sands of self-identity and stepping into her marriage alongside the ebb and flow of understanding and conflict in her friendship with Meredith this season but...as much as it pains me...I don't write for GA.

OK I just remembered an interview Kevin did regarding this subject about a year or so ago it was around the premiere of season 6. He basically said that at the end of season 5 Cristina and Owen find out they are pregnant and that was the so-called curveball we had speculated. He also said that they were to raise the baby in season 6 but Shonda changed her mind last minute which is why I think we ended up with Teddy (need i say bitter?).
Soooo my guess is that maybe Sandra and Kevin fought to bring back the OC pregnancy idea this year but with the CAM s/l going on as well the writers basically waited and this wiill set up OC for a better s/l and more screentime in Season 8. I honestly want the show to end after Season 8, but it would make sense since Shonda mentioned that they had plans for Owen's mom, this would justify having her around more when Cristina's expecting or has the baby. I also wonder if Owen's mom being around will affect her own notions about being a mom because Cristina has a horrible relationship with her mom, and if she sees Owen's mom who I assume is one of those types everyone wants to be their mom, she might feel better about her own insecurities and will also feel like she has a better support system than Meredith who will probably be a bit jealous. Anyway just a thought.

From what I recall there were two interviews, maybe even pre-season 7, in which Kevin talked about the curveball being a pregnancy for the end of Season 5. I found it very interesting at the time that the topic was being discussed. I think they said Shonda decided it was 'too soon' for S.5. (Probably a good call given the development phase of their relationship at that time.)
It also sounded like the idea for Callie to be pregnant with Mark's baby came up as the resolution to JC's maternity leave at the beginning of S.7 so it makes sense we would now be seeing a return to Owen and Cristina's curveball as we head into S.8. Figure we'll see them in that flux, along with everyone else being in flux, in the SF with resolution coming around in the SP.
And I share your belief that having Owen's' mom in Seattle will make a big difference to how Cristina and Owen process this pregnancy in S.8. Also hoping she'll get Cristina and the mysteries of motherhood will begin to be unlocked for Cristina. (Also can't wait for a bit of humor of watching Cristina do her level best to research her way into being an excellent pregnant lady/mother. As much as I found it silly, the 'no sex' scene showed how well SO and KMK can bring the funny.)

Have just seen the sneek peak on the plane Crash...Teddy and Perkins in the plane ? ...a slight possibility ? No, too much hope ! she'll be back next season because it's Perkins who will not make it, my bet !
But nothing on CO ! I guess we will have to wait till season 8 SP to see how it will be folded out ! keeping baby or not keeping baby ! It's gonna get me crazy all summer long...!
