Question: Anything on Grey’s Anatomy? It would really make my day! —Tia Ausiello: You already know that the survivors strike it rich with the airplane lawsuit in this week’s episode. You also know after watching our exclusive first look clip that Callie is way more excited than the rest of the gang. But what you may not know is that “Callie wants to go out and celebrate,” reveals Ellen Pompeo. “But nobody is really into celebrating because it’s blood money. People died. Arizona lost her leg.” They decide to tag along anyway, leading to “a very awkward dinner,” says Pompeo. “But Callie has her reasons for wanting to celebrate and she explains it at the dinner.” tvline.com/2013/01/15/greys-anatomy-spoilers-ask-ausiello/

Will Derek ever return to surgery on Grey's Anatomy? — Katie NATALIE: I posed that very question to executive producer Shonda Rhimes and her response may scare you. "The way the show takes a turn, it's not in the direction you think it's going to go," she tells me. "Derek getting back into surgery, while being very important, really turns out to be — I don't want to say minimized — but it gets overshadowed in the face of something else." Rhimes teases that that "something else" has to do with the impending results of the lawsuit. www.tvguide.com/News/Mega-Buzz-Bones-Greys-NCIS-Spoilers-1059174.aspx

'Grey's Anatomy': Who Can Save Seattle Grace From Bankruptcy?Recurring guest star Constance Zimmer tells THR her character, Dr. Alana Cahill, is here to help. While the plane crash survivors have won a massive $15 million (each!) in their lawsuit against the hospital, Derek, Meredith, Cristina, Arizona and Callie could ultimately end up paying for their victory professionally as Seattle Grace is now on the brink of bankruptcy following the pricey verdict. But there's one person who could be the secret to Seattle Grace's success: Constance Zimmer's Dr. Alana Cahill, who makes her first appearance in Thursday's episode, playing a physician's adviser who is brought in to help the hospital as it looks to avoid bankruptcy. "I'm definitely not received very well because I'm coming in to pretty much reshape the hospital and I'm cutting a lot of things and being very harsh about the way things are run," Zimmer told The Hollywood Reporter during a recent visit to Grey's Anatomy's Hollywood set. " I don't think they really like me in the beginning, but that's OK because sometimes you've got to be tough." Zimmer says Cahill is a former surgeon who shares a history with one of Seattle Grace's more senior staffers, who is disappointed that she gave up her promising surgical career. "She doesn't want the hospital to close and has to figure out how to do that, how to fix it," she teases. The answer will come as a shock to everyone, especially Derek -- who was the most vocal of the plane crash survivors in forging ahead with the lawsuit. While Zimmer -- who next appears in Netflix's original drama House of Cards -- immediately mixes things up on Grey's during her stint, she says Cahill has a "true arc." "People might not like me at first, so I'm just hoping that all those Grey's fans aren't like, 'We hate you, leave!' I just want to say to them that I will get better, I promise! You will like me. I will make you like me!" Grey's Anatomy airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on ABC. Hit the comments with your thoughts on how you think Cahill will be welcomed. Grey's Anatomy's' Jessica Capshaw Previews Baby Steps for Callie and Arizona and a 'Spooky' Story Line Grey's Anatomy's Arizona Robbins is on the road to recovery from the deadly plane crash that ultimately claimed the lives of Mark and Lexie -- and her leg. But according to co-star Jessica Capshaw, she'll hit a major hurdle Thursday when Arizona begins suffering from Phantom Limb Syndrome. During the hour, Capshaw tells The Hollywood Reporter that the "spooky" story line will rattle Arizona to the point of her turning to a Seattle Grace cohort for support in shaking the very real feeling dreams. THR caught up with Capshaw on Wednesday to preview the episode and discuss Arizona's recovery, mending her relationship with Callie (Sara Ramirez) and if she'll ever find out about Alex performing the amputation. THR: Arizona is suffering from Phantom Limb Syndrome. How will we see her battle that? Jessica Capshaw: It's very real and the writers have done such an incredible job of being so responsible for researching the challenges that Arizona would face. It has felt like a very important part of the storytelling in terms of what someone might go through who has had this happen to them. It starts in dream sequences with Arizona understanding this pain through her dreams. She ends up trying to hide it from Callie because she really wants to move on. After the grief and the loss, Arizona is trying to rebuild and figure it out again. She wants to keep [her suffering] separate from Callie because she wants to magically make it disappear. But it is unrelenting so she ends up seeking council. After it doesn't go away, Owen (Kevin McKidd) ends up helping her with different therapies. It's a great story -- it's kind of spooky and a little bit dark but with the same heart that beats throughout the entire tone of the show. It's like a child when you dreamed of falling out of bed and felt like it was a real sensation -- these are dreams that feel that real to her. The loss of one's leg -- or any limb -- is a deeply profound thing so then having this situation when she feels it not there, it's mind-bending. THR: Might we see her flash back to her four days in the woods before being rescued? Capshaw: No but there is a flashing of sorts (laughs). It's more dreamy but there are parts where she harkens back to what she was before the limb loss. THR: Would those flashbacks involve wheelie sneakers? Capshaw:(Laughs) No, but that would be great! With the way viewers seem to feel about the wheelie sneakers, I feel like that will be the ultimate vindication that she's completely back when she can rock those! THR: Arizona and Callie made tremendous strides during their getaway at Bailey's wedding. How might that progress? Might we see her call Callie "Calliope" again soon in that sweet Arizona fashion? Capshaw: I don't know the last time she called her Calliope! I think it's been forever! As I said in the beginning of the season, we're not teeing up a story of defeat. Ultimately, we want to see both of these characters find their way back to the relationship that they were in prior to the devastation [of the plane crash]. Arizona is coming back to herself as a doctor and making her way back to herself as a partner and as someone in a relationship and figuring out how to show up for that. Everybody wants to hurry for the big happy ending but the journey back to it is incredibly interesting as well. I get it, I root for characters that I love on TV shows but the truth is you wouldn't want to watch them be happy every single week. I love watching them take their baby steps and figuring out how to go back to being what they were before this loss. THR: There's still the elephant in the room that Alex, not Callie, is the one who performed Arizona's amputation? What will her response look like when she does find that out? Capshaw: I don't know what they have planned for that. I'm surprised it didn't come up earlier when Arizona was in a really dark place and probably would have flipped out. The Arizona we're seeing now is coming to terms with everything. I don't know how much that will change the game for her. I feel like when you're feeling bad, everything is bad and you want to blame everyone. But when you're feeling good, at the end of the day, what does it matter if it's gone, it's gone. I don't feel like it's been played out to be this looming secret where there are people standing behind doors whispering about it. It's been one of those things that just hasn't come to light yet. When it does, it certainly will be interesting to see what happens. THR: Same-sex marriage is now legal in Washington -- might we see Callie and Arizona renew their vows with another ceremony, big or small? Callie mentioned that it wasn't legal at the time during their formal ceremony. Capshaw: That's definitely a writer question. I'm sure they have a feeling about that. Whether it was legal or not, the way we played it as characters is they're married. They're no less married because it's legal or illegal. I feel like Arizona is a married woman. What are you looking forward to seeing for Arizona? Hit the comments with your thoughts. Grey's Anatomy airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on ABC. Grey's Anatomy Scoop: Shonda Rhimes Previews 'Lovely' Mer/Der Story, 'New' Cristina/Owen Crisis! Plus — Is Wilson 'The One' For Alex?!Grey’s Anatomy is at the midway point of Season 9, which can only mean one thing: Time to check in with the ABC drama’s boss, Shonda Rhimes! And by “check in” we, of course, mean, grill her for details about the season-ending arc for Mer/Der (baby crisis?), Alex/Wilson (are they the real deal?), Cristina and Owen (baby crisis part 2?) and much more. TVLINE | Back in September you told me that this would be the season Alex finds love with a woman who will not leave him — is Wilson that woman? Possibly. I’m hopeful. I started out this season being very specific and sure about that, and then really wanting to calibrate that for him. We’ve been watching the chemistry between them and building things. I didn’t want to jump into an immediate romance for him. He’s been the guy who sleeps with everybody and I didn’t want to see him do that. I felt like he needed a friend. And we’ve been watching that build and I don’t want it to go too fast or too slow. We’ll see what comes. They’re now doing stuff together that just makes me laugh out loud while watching the cuts, and I don’t want to push it. Right now we’re just leaning into it. TVLINE | Mer’s pregnancy – why do I have this sinking feeling that it’s all building to a “Love’s Labor Lost” kind of climax. You have a bad feeling because everybody thinks I kill everybody all the time. That’s why you have a bad feeling. [Laughs] And that works to an advantage because the audience takes it very seriously that things could happen. But in my mind I feel like we have this storyline about this person who wasn’t necessarily meant to get pregnant, but did. And is now very worried for herself. We’re going to be watching this. We have a lovely storyline planned and I think it’s going to be very beautiful for Meredith and Derek. I hope the audience is along for the ride. TVLINE | Can you shed any more light on their storyline during the second half of the season? Derek’s hand is better but I think he feels an extreme sense of responsibility for what’s happening with the hospital. They’re going to be playing a larger part in the future of the hospital as well and trying to help fix it if they can. But mostly, I feel like you’ve been watching Meredith evolve as a leader and a doctor and a surgeon. And that’s going to continue. And portraying them as a grown-up couple has been very fun for us. It’s been nice to see. TVLINE | When will Cristina and Owen’s lingering baby issue rear its ugly head again – because I know it’s coming. It IS going to come up. I’m so happy right now because they decided NOT to talk about it. Divorce has sort of freed them from feeling like they have to. It’s going to be complex. They’re something very intense about the idea that Cristina is a woman who does not want children. And she’s unapologetic about it. She does not want them. And there’s nothing WRONG with not wanting children. I love babies. If you gave me 40 babies I’d be thrilled. But this idea that if you place a baby in a woman’s arms and she’s going to melt is not true for some people. And I feel REALLY strongly that we allow this character to be who she is. This woman that does not want children. She’s a surgeon and a scientist first before she is anything else, and Owen has to deal with the fact that he is in love with somebody who has a genius, versus being in love with somebody who wants to have a family. That is going to be a complex thing for them. And I’m enjoying watching them deal with NOT dealing with it at the moment. But yeah, they’re going to have to really talk talk about it and figure it out and struggle to figure out if they can be in love despite the fact that he wants kids and she doesn’t. tvline.com/2013/01/28/greys-anatomy-spoilers-season-9-meredith-derek/

If you didn't have enough, I've got more bad news: 'Grey's Anatomy': Will Cristina and Owen Make it Back to the Firehouse?Showrunner Shonda Rhimes talks with THR about what's ahead for the couple: "They're on a very complex journey."On ABC's Grey's Anatomy, Cristina and Owen genuinely seem happier as a couple -- post divorce, but that doesn't mean that the couple will return to the firehouse they turned into a home. After signing divorce papers to remove the conflict of interest so Cristina (Sandra Oh) and the rest of the plane crash survivors would be eligible for a settlement, the couple has found a road back to happiness, even though she recently moved in to Meredith's Alex's house. "I wouldn't say that there's hope for them returning to firehouse as a couple because I actually gave the word we could dismantle that set," showrunner Shonda Rhimes tells The Hollywood Reporter. "But they are genuinely happy and their happiness doesn't necessarily mean that they need to be in the firehouse. The firehouse is a place of their past; a lot of painful things happened there." Among them: the infamous cereal tossing that came when Cristina learned of Owen's (Kevin McKidd) infidelity, the ramifications of an abortion and the two continuing to have different priorities about family and work. "They're on a very complex journey. Cristina is a surgeon first and Owen is a person first: he wants kids and she doesn't. There are these very basic conflicts that they have in their lives that are very hard to overcome," Rhimes says. "I'm very determined that we need to have a character who is unapologetic about not wanting children, who isn't going to suddenly find herself with a baby and suddenly soften up and discover, 'Oh, I wanted babies all along.' For Cristina, having a child would possibly mean a life of depression." "This idea that for all women all you have to do is put a baby their in arms and they're going to be happy is unfair," the mother of two adds. "I really like idea of portraying the scientist in Cristina who's not interested in kids. That struggle between these two people is going to remain and be very complex. It doesn't mean they're not going to be together now but it's going to be a very complex struggle." Part of their journey will come as Owen continues to be on the hook for Seattle Grace's pending bankruptcy that has already resulted in Dr. Alana Cahill (Constance Zimmer) proposing to shutter the ER. Owen's job, Rhimes says, is very much in jeopardy as he will deal with the professional and personal ramifications that come with sending nearly all the attendings on the fatal flight. "He did sign a paper that put them all on a plane, that's also a problem -- mainly from the point of view of his own sense of guilt, not that he really did anything wrong," Rhimes explains. "We're going to watch that play out in surprising ways. Owen feels a responsibility to really save the hospital and do everything he can to fix things. That's who he is as a person. We're going to watch him struggle to make that happen." And just as Owen will struggle as chief to keep a handle on Seattle Grace -- with the crash survivors on one side and others, like the outspoken Bailey on the other -- he and Cristina will also continue to find their foothold as a couple, with the baby situation likely to come up again for the beleaguered couple. "I've never been interested in telling story like a fairy tale," Rhimes warns. "We're not headed to any fairy tale moment. But I do think that this is a couple that is going to struggle to figure out ways to remain in love." www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/greys-anatomy-spoilers-shonda-rhimes-cristina-owen-416067

Question: I’m kind of loving Jo/Alex on Grey’s Anatomy, but I think it’s time they stop being polite and start getting it on. She bought him a couch for chrissakes! —Carrie Ausiello: I’m right there with you, Carrie! It’s Shonda Rhimes that remains on the fence. Elaborarting on what she told me about the pair earlier in the week, Rhimes says, “I don’t know that you will see one of them cross the line. I’ve been watching this thing build. And I feel like we want the build to feel natural and real and not to have it go too fast. And not to feel engineered. I’m just watching their chemistry and enjoying them together. Right now, we’re just leaning into it and seeing where it goes.” tvline.com/2013/01/29/the-walking-dead-season-3-spoilers-ask-ausiello/2/Will Seattle Grace really have to close on Grey's Anatomy? — Pam NATALIE: The doctors will go to great lengths to try to keep the hospital open — and in an upcoming Alex-centric episode, those lengths will actually be quite hilarious. "That's a great, funny and interesting episode," executive producer Shonda Rhimes says. "It's really about the idea that they're trying to rebrand the hospital in a certain way. So they're reluctantly fighting to be the face of the hospital, or the cover boy for the hospital, in a way that's very funny and very challenging because you begin to realize how much trouble they really are in at the hospital, so you're watching things fall apart from that perspective." www.tvguide.com/News/Mega-Buzz-Scandal-Bones-Greys-Spoilers-1060085.aspx

Seattle Grace may have to close its doors — at least the ER, for now — unless the doctors of Grey's Anatomy can figure out how to keep the hospital alive. The obvious solution would be for the plane crash survivors, who were each awarded $15 million, to donate their money, but even that may not help. "It's going to take more money than they have," executive producer Shonda Rhimes tells TVGuide.com. Grey's Anatomy Scoop: Will McBaby survive?! Shonda Rhimes weighs in That's not to say the doctors aren't thinking about it. After Bailey (Chandra Wilson) made it abundantly clear in the staff meeting that some doctors don't have millions to fall back on if Seattle Grace closes, Derek (Patrick Dempsey) will lead the charge in finding ways to save the hospital. "There's definitely a sense of guilt involved for them in the fact that they have gotten these settlements and now the hospital's in trouble, but they also feel entirely justified for getting this settlement for what happened to them," Rhimes says. The doctors will go to great lengths — as evidenced here — to save the hospital, especially April (Sarah Drew), who, as the person in charge of the ER, is more worried about her job than anyone. "Watching our doctors figure out what they're going to do and what the future is going to hold for them is going to be fairly interesting." Grey's Anatomy's Jessica Capshaw: What will threaten Arizona's ability to work? "The fate of the hospital is going to come around in very unexpected ways," Rhimes continues. "Once Cahill [Constance Zimmer] came in, the future of the hospital is a snowball rolling down the hill. It just gets faster and bigger and worse as things progress and saving it is not going to be as easy as anybody thinks." But Cahill may have more on her mind than trying to save Seattle Grace, which she made clear in the elevator run-in with her former mentor Dr. Webber (James Pickens, Jr.), whose job she threatened. "Her motives and her agenda are much more complex than people realize," Rhimes says. "I think that people think that she's just coming in with cost-cutting measures and what they're going to start to realize is that cost-cutting measures are the least of their problems." Do you hope Seattle grace can be saved? www.tvguide.com/News/Greys-Anatomy-Shonda-Rhimes-Spoilers-1060148.aspx
