Grey's Anatomy: Cristina and Owen to Tackle the Baby Question Once AgainCristina and Owen have finally come to a comfortable place in their relationship on Grey's Anatomy — which naturally means it may be time for another shakeup. The couple has certainly seen some rough times over the past few seasons, but following their divorce, Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) decided to keep things simple by not defining their relationship. Remarkably, that has seemed to work from them thus far. "I don't know if it's better for them, but they're in the midst of believing that," executive producer Shonda Rhimes tells TVGuide.com. "They're not talking about it and not defining it so they don't have to talk about all the reasons why it didn't work in the first place." One of the main reasons the relationship didn't work was that Cristina has always adamantly been against being a mother, something Owen thought he could get on board with. But his want for a family ultimately was the fracture that caused the demise of their relationship. "I am defiantly in support of a character's right to not want children," Rhimes says. "As much as I love kids, I feel like it's very intriguing to me to have a character who absolutely does not want children and is not interested in having them and isn't going to suddenly melt the minute a baby is placed in her arms. That's not Cristina. What that means for a guy like Owen, who was made to nurture, is going to be really interesting." Of course, not addressing their problems could ultimately be the couple's downfall this time around. "Right now they're having a wonderful time and they're in love because they don't have to ask any of those questions," Rhimes says. "The divorce freed them from having to ask any of those questions, but those questions are going to come up again for them and we're going to watch them struggle to stay in love through those questions." But Rhimes promises that Grey's will not just be retreading on the same storyline that lead to Cristina and Owen's initial breakup. "They have to go about it in a different way," she says. "Hopefully they have a different perspective on things now. They have a perspective on time. They understand what their lives were like without one another. Obviously neither one of them is interested in that. I think they have a different way of looking at things now. They've been through a plane crash, so they have a different perspective on life. They have to be looking at this differently." www.tvguide.com/News/Greys-Anatomy-Cristina-Owen-Baby-1063591.aspx

From a photo gallery at ew.com called "10 TV Couples Built to Last?" "''LA Shrinks'' therapist Dr. Greg Cason's relationship counsel to Kurt and Blaine, Elena and the Salvatores; Brody and Carrie; Jess and Nick; more faves" Couple No. 6 are Owen & Cristina: "Owen & Cristina, Grey's Anatomy "Dr. Cason defines the two surgeons' complicated relationship as ''trauma and guilt sharing the same bed.'' He explains, ''They're both suffering from PTSD. They both have trauma, and they both have guilt. This is going to make strange bedfellows because they can feed each other's [issues].'' On the other hand, ''They can actually do very well in their relationship if they support each other absolutely. [For example,] when Cristina found out about Owen getting a divorce from her because he thought it would help her lawsuit [from the plane crash]. Even though it was a silly thing to do...he's trying to do it because he wants her to be helped no matter what, even if it costs him their relationship. That kind of thing is what's going to make this relationship thrive. "He thinks Owen & Cristina unconventional relationship trajectory shows, ''You need to loosen your grip to tighten the relationship. Because both of them have PTSD, both are characterized by uncontrolled emotions...so if you loosen the grip on the other person, it will help the relationship. [Before, their] marriage was too tight, like a noose. So it really goes to that saying: If you love someone, set them free. And if they love you, they'll come back. And that's what it seems like both of them have to do and have to continue doing. It might be silly for them to fall into society's conventions that they should be married instead of just allowing the relationship to thrive in the way it best possibly can. In this case, that may mean being divorced but still being together.'' " www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20593459_20692823,00.html#21310563 One of the other couples Dr. Cason talks about is Don/Megan on "Mad Men." Talking about whether that relation can survive Don's cheating, he says: ''Most couples can recover from infidelity. In fact most relationships can be stronger after infidelity. It really depends on the couple and are they willing to work it out. If they're flexible they can work it out. If they're rigid than it's like a rigid branch, it breaks."

'Grey's Anatomy': A Natural Disaster Rains Down in Season 9 FinaleFollowing last year's deadly plane crash, a superstorm will send the hospital into crisis mode. After several cryptic tweets from showrunner Shonda Rhimes, sources close to the ABC medical drama tell The Hollywood Reporter that the season nine finale will feature a superstorm. The natural disaster will begin in the penultimate episode of the season -- titled "Readiness Is All" -- set for May 9, with the storm hitting full force in the May 16 finale, fittingly titled "Perfect Storm." The superstorm will affect the recently renamed hospital and cause its staff to go into crisis mode in an hour that is being described as very intense with a lot of "major" things changing for the characters in the final two episodes of the season. Rhimes has said the Grey's writing staff made some "very bold [and] shocking decisions" with the finale following "very intense discussions." "I warned you about the GA finale so you could brace yourself," Rhimes recently wrote. "Hug a friend." A "superstorm" describes unusually destructive storms that typically include cyclones. The term was used to describe the 1993 Storm of the Century and most recently 2012's Hurricane Sandy, the latter of which was the second-costliest hurricane in U.S. history. The season nine finale plan comes after a season that began with the loss of Mark Sloan (Eric Dane), who became the second casualty of deadly plane crash featured in the season eight finale. This year, the survivors have faced an uphill battle as they battled PTSD, lost limbs and loved ones. Previous finales have included the first appearance of Derek's (Patrick Dempsey) estranged wife Addison (Kate Walsh); Denny's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) death; George's (T.R. Knight) shocking bus crash; and the heart-stopping hospital shooter, among others. www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/greys-anatomy-season-9-finale-superstorm-444083

Interview: 'All My Children's' Jennifer Bassey checks into 'Grey's Anatomy' “All My Children” alum Jennifer Bassey is checking into “Grey’s Anatomy” with a multi-episode story arc, which begins airing tonight. In the episode, Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) continues to take special care of Ethan as the condition of his parents remains uncertain. Enter Bassey’s character, Nancy Dawson. “I’m little Ethan’s grandmother and I arrive at the hospital to find my son in a coma and my daughter in law in recovery from the accident,” said Bassey tells Daytime TV Examiner. “I’m extremely uncomfortable with the fact that my little grandson has been brought into all the medical discussions about his parents – which I think he’s way too young for it.” The high charged emotional story allows for some great scenes between Bassey and McKidd. “I can’t control my emotions,” Bassey continued. “I get very out of control at the hospital when I see my son in a coma. I had scenes with Kevin McKidd. He is just the sweetest man. I love him. I wrote him a fan letter when I left. He’s adorable.”.... read the full article here : www.examiner.com/article/interview-all-my-children-s-jennifer-bassey-checks-into-gray-s-anatomy

Grey's Anatomy Scoop: Will Bailey Lose Her Job? Miranda Bailey has, and always will be, the heart of Seattle Grace Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, but her future at the stalwart establishment will be called into question during Thursday's episode of Grey's Anatomy. Last week, three of Bailey's patients developed an unknown infection that lead to at least two deaths. Initially, it was thought to be Leah's (Tessa Ferrer) fault, but it turns out Bailey (Chandra Wilson) is to blame. Now placed on suspension, Bailey must undergo a CDC investigation that could cost the doctor her job. How will Bailey deal with this pressure? TVGuide.com turned to Wilson to get the scoop on that and the upcoming season finale: How is Bailey dealing with the CDC investigation? Chandra Wilson: Owen [Kevin McKidd] made her sit down! That's not cool. She doesn't sit down. The CDC have to come in and do their due diligence. We, of course, have to look for the source of the infection so we can get it out or do whatever we need to do. That's all fine. But Bailey can't understand why it's even within the realm of possibility that it had something to do with her, and why the doctors are not only rallying behind her, but championing her. Bailey still has patients, so she doesn't understand why she has to sit down in order for this investigation to happen. How are the other doctors treating her? Wilson: As far as her colleagues are concerned, all of them are board members now. They have to be board members and go according to the rules, no matter how they feel about her personally. Her contention is that friends come first and they're board members later. Behind closed doors, of course they have all kinds of support for her, but she doesn't hear any of that. All she knows is that they collectively have made her sit down. Her ego can't handle that. read the rest of the article here: www.tvguide.com/News/Greys-Anatomy-Chandra-Wilson-Finale-Spoilers-1064548.aspx

'Grey's Anatomy' Exclusive Interview: Chandra Wilson Says Bailey 'Didn't Do Anything Wrong' Thursday, April 25, 2013 Grey's Anatomy returns from hiatus this week with the first of four new episodes to close out its ninth season. At the center of it all is Dr. Miranda Bailey who finds herself the subject of a CDC investigation following the mysterious deaths of several of her patients. Chandra Wilson recently spoke to BuddyTV to offer her insights into how Miranda is handling the pressure as she battles for her professional life. I'm excited because Bailey has such a meaty storyline going on. Yeah, I'll tell you. She was in a little bit of trouble. I have to tell you, it takes a lot to surprise me anymore when I'm watching television and I was really shocked at the end of the last episode when it turned out that that common denominator of those sick and dying people was Bailey and not that intern (Leah) as we were led to believe. Obviously, by her response, she was shocked, too. I'm wondering with this new episode coming up, "Sleeping Monster", how is she coping with this? This is a woman who...her whole professional identity is based on being "Bailey". Things like this don't happen to Bailey. How is she managing?Things like this still don't happen to Bailey as far as she's concerned. So the biggest issue for her is...the Center for Disease Control has to come in and do their due diligence and get to the bottom of what's happened, but that shouldn't have anything to do with her. And her colleagues should be rallying to support the fact that they need to look for whatever they need to look for but not look at Bailey. She didn't do anything wrong. She's having a hard time with the fact that she doesn't feel like they're doing that. They're being hospital board members and they're not being her champions. Is it being made worse by the fact that these are people who are her colleagues and, in some cases, were even her students and now they're in this position of authority over her?Exactly and they are playing the role of the title as opposed to the role of...hey, you were my teacher. You were my mentor. You are my colleague. You're my friend. That's not taking the precedence. read the rest of the great article : www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anatomy/greys-anatomy-interview-with-c-49922.aspx

Question: Do you have any scoop on Grey’s Anatomy? —BP Ausiello: If you are among the few who believe that this Owen/Ethan storyline will have a shiny, happy ending — with the motherless, potentially fatherless lad skipping off to live with his grandma Nancy — I’d like to introduce you to this thing called television. “There are a lot of interesting twists coming up, ones that I did not expect,” All My Children alum Jennifer Bassey, who plays Nancy, tells us. “It will really tear your heart out…. It’s heavy-duty stuff!” In other Grey’s news, Shonda Rhimes tweeted the following finale tease on Tuesday and I can’t get it out of my d**n head! “On set at Grey’s. A piece of this scene was so top-secret that I had to whisper it to the director instead of writing it in the script.” Anyone by chance know what supermarket Rob Corn shops at? MAY 16 SEASON FINALE | When the credits roll at the end of the Season 9 closer, a major character's life will hang in the balance, series creator Shonda Rhimes confirms. The odds-on favorite would seem to be Mer, whose tumble down the stairs next week sets up some “fairly intense” labor pains in the finale, hints Rhimes. Elsewhere, as a massive storm is straining all of Grey Sloan Memorial's resources, the unsettled parenting issue between Owen and Cristina “gets forced out into the open,” Callie and Arizona's relationship is tested by interloper Lauren (p;ayed by Hilarie Burton)-- “I think [Calzona fans] absolutely should be worried,” Rhimes cryptically warns -- and “Alex is going to be forced to face some things about Jo” in the wake of finding her bruised and beaten. Speaking of which, Jo's current beau Chest Pecwell may not have been behind the attack. “I think that everyone is assuming that they know what happened,” Rhimes says. “And perhaps they don't.” tvline.com/2013/04/19/may-season-finale-spoilers-2013-sweeps-photos-once-upon-a-time/#!16/greysanatomy/

'Grey's Anatomy's' Shonda Rhimes Previews 'Emotional Death' in Season 9 FinaleTHR: How will Owen and Cristina address the Ethan situation? They've been through this before -- Cris has been steadfast about not wanting children. How will this be different? Is she willing to lose Owen? Rhimes: They keep tabling this discussion because they truly love each other. They got divorced so they could take it off the table. Now, they've reached a point where it's going to be something that they can no longer table. They can no longer not talk about this. They're going to actually have the conversation. That's where we're headed. THR: Should we be concerned for them? Rhimes: We should be concerned about the future of every couple. THR: What will Owen learn from the Ethan arc? It seems like Ethan's grandmother is already setting up a choice between social services and Owen. Rhimes: We have some twists up our sleeve. There's plenty that Owen is going to learn and realize. He clearly has made a choice in his mind that he's chosen Cristina and he's is with Cristina but I think things are going to get bumpy there for a while. Grey's Anatomy Relationship Drama: Who May Be Doomed?Cristina and Owen: With the introduction of Ethan, the son of two patients — one of which has died and the other of which is in a coma — Owen's desire for children has bubbled up to the surface, something that caused him and Cristina to re-evaluate their marriage the first time around. But Rhimes stands by her decision to make Cristina uncompromising when it comes to children. So could they even find a compromise? "I don't know," Rhimes admits. "I don't know what compromise you make when one person wants kids and one doesn't." "I feel like we have a character who is a genius," Rhimes continues. "She's a surgical genius and she feels a hum when she's performing surgery, and it makes her feel whole and she does not feel a need to have children. She feels very complete without it, and Owen does not feel the same way. I feel like that is a fundamental problem in their relationship, and they've been avoiding it for a million reasons, one of which was that she was in a plane crash and she was trying to pull herself together." Both Cristina and Owen will have a big decision to make in regards to their relationship, and Rhimes notes there's a million different directions this could go. "Cristina could make the horrible mistake of deciding she's going to have a kid for him," she says. "Cristina could make the horrible mistake that she's just going to walk away from him. He could make the horrible mistake of saying that he's going to walk away from her or have a kid on his own. They're going to have to face that and figure out what that means for them. This journey is going to be interesting because I do think no matter what that they truly love each other." Question: What does the Grey’s Anatomy season finale hold for Cristina and Owen? Please answer. I’ll bake you cookies. — LivAusiello: Before I tell you what Shonda Rhimes told TVLine, let me state for the record: vegan oatmeal raisin. Now then, you can go ahead and abandon any hope of the couple meeting in the middle regarding the issue of children. “There’s never been any suggestion that Cristina is going to meet anyone in the middle,” Rhimes notes. “Cristina is not that person.” However, for better or worse (my guess: worse), she adds, “I do think that the more this Ethan situation plays out, the conversation that she and Owen have been avoiding so much really gets forced out into the open.” Ruh-roh. tvline.com/2013/05/15/law-order-svu-finale-spoilers-olivia-death-ask-ausiello/

[b]Grey's Anatomy's Kevin McKidd: I Don't Think It's the End for Cristina and Owen[/b] Another year of Grey's Anatomy has come and gone and once again, Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd) have parted ways. As the ninth season of the ABC medical drama drew to a close, the couple again faced the issue of having children. Cristina continues to hold her ground of not wanting to be a mother, while Owen's burgeoning relationship with a patient's son made him long for what could seemingly never be. Going about it in a more adult fashion, Cristina walked away from Owen, knowing that she'd never want to stand in the way of his happiness. But are the duo really done? TVGuide.com turned to McKidd to get his take and get scoop on Season 10: How surprised were you when you found out that Cristina and Owen would be parting ways once again? Kevin McKidd: Well, it's a different parting this time. There's no big drama to it, in a strange way. Cristina is one step ahead of Owen in that she suddenly realizes the guy she loves has this real need that even he's trying to push down and deny that he wants to have a family. She realizes that he's trying to live in denial of that thing about himself so he can be with her and she does a very adult and honorable thing by letting him off the hook. The surprising thing about it is how adult it is. Do you think this is really the end of Cristina and Owen? McKidd: I don't know, but I doubt it. I doubt it because whether they ever are together again, there's so much connection and history between them that they're always going to have some kind of relationship. It's almost like people who are parents, if they break up, they'll always be connected by that thing. Owen and Cristina have been through so much that those things will never go away. I know Owen is going to feel a lot of yearning and be heartbroken for quite some time. The sad fact is that Owen and Cristina are in a good place. I don't think it's the end for them, it's just another turn in their very complicated relationship. In a strange way, this is Cristina showing how much she cares for this guy Cristina and Owen have had trouble working together before after breaking up. How do you think it will be different this time around? McKidd: The way they split this time, Cristina seems to rationalize it. She finds her peace with it and that's different. Usually, in the times before, there's definitely been a sense of yearning from both of them for each other. It seemed like, in the finale, that Cristina is kind of OK with it. Owen isn't yet. That's going to be the big shift. What was your conversation like with Sandra when you learned about this, given it could mean a cut-back on scenes between the two of you? McKidd: I don't think it necessarily means that. I've heard very small rumblings about next season. Certainly, my understanding is that Cristina and Owen's connection is not, by any means, going to go away, it's just going to evolve into the next phase of their relationship. I don't feel like Sandra Oh or I relish the idea of doing less scenes together. My gut tells me that isn't going to happen because there's something about Cristina and Owen and the way these two dance around each other that's fun to play and hopefully good to watch. I just see it as an interesting twist in their journey. Do you think Owen might finally try to move on and find someone else? McKidd: I'm interested to see where they go now. What Cristina is doing here is that kind of thing where if you love somebody, you have to set them free. She doesn't want Owen to deny part of himself anymore to be with her, so whether that means another relationship or seeking out the idea of a family for Owen, that's more of what Cristina is releasing Owen into, as opposed to releasing him into looking for another woman. As we all know in this strange world, there are many ways to have a family. That was the emotional intention for Cristina doing what she does in the finale. But that last scene between them is very interesting because Owen is in the same place as her, but as couples always are, they're never fully on the same page. Cristina, in this case, is one beat ahead of Owen. He's in denial about his feelings about fatherhood because he loves her so much. He thinks he's able to put all this stuff away to be with this woman. Owen has already considered fostering or adopting. Would he ever consider doing that on his own? McKidd: Maybe. There's a lot of ideas floating around right now. Some of them could give a real potential for comedy. The key thing is that Owen's not quite there yet. Owen is left calling after her, but he doesn't, for the first time, run after her, so he stays put and the last image that we have is Owen on his own in this room with Cristina walking out, which I think is very telling emotionally about where they're at in the start of the new season. He knows deep down what she's saying to him is true. He's reluctantly going to have to accept it. It'll be interesting to see where Owen takes this because he's going to be heartbroken and pining for her, but also knowing that what she did was such a big gift that he has to act on it and see what the possibilities are for being a parent. Richard's (James Pickens, Jr.) fate is left up in the air at the end of the finale. How would Owen deal with the possibility of Richard dying? McKidd: If the worst case happened, he'd be heartbroken. I really don't know what he'd do. In honor of Richard, he would try and make the hospital the No. 1 hospital in the country again. Hopefully that's not going to happen, but we don't know. If there's a chance to save Richard, you're going to have every doctor at Grey Sloan Memorial clamoring over each other to get in that OR to save him. Owen is going to have his hands full next season with so much personal drama going on at the hospital. What will the pressure be like for Owen next season as the Chief? McKidd: It's going to be intense. He's definitely found his feet as the Chief. He took a lot of flak with the Pegasus stuff and the bankruptcy, which took a lot out of him. But I think he stepped up to it. He had a moment of weakness where he believed Pegasus is the thing that fixes them, but when he realized he was in bed with the wrong people, he stepped up. He's been through a lot and proven that he can be a good Chief in the hospital, so I hope he continues that. Obviously there are going to be challenges and it's going to be hard to corral all these doctors with all this personal drama. Maybe the fact that Owen isn't in a relationship at the start of the season might make him more of a mentor for a little bit, as opposed to having his own angst to deal with. www.tvguide.com/News/Greys-Anatomy-Owen-Cristina-1065760.aspx
