There is a bit of new info, but just a very little bit. Apparently, Grey's is filming on Wednesday at the same location that was used in the past as the exterior of Cristina's hospital in Minnesota. Since they started shooting 9.4 last Tuesday, and shooting usually takes 7 to 10 days, it is LIKELY these are scenes for 9.4 with Kevin directing. So Cristina is at Mayo at least through 9.4 and, if it turns out the shoot is for 9.5, through at least that episode as well.
My speculation is that she will be at Mayo for at least the first third, and perhaps the first half, of the season. Arguing for a longer stay at Mayo is that Shonda does love her "new" ideas, and she has said she wants to stick with this one (of having the show set at 2 different hospitals) for as long as it is "interesting" to her. Arguing for Cristina coming back sooner rather than later is Shonda's statement that this will be the "season of romance" particularly for C/O. But either way, we're depending on Shonda for information and we all know how unreliable that can be!
In the absence of any really reliable information, I'm going to continue to hope Cristina comes back sooner, because that's what I want to see!

But we do know that Shonda and her writers team like dragg things on and on when it comes to CO. So my guess is that first half of season 9 with no CO scene at all. Shonda is going to delight playing cat and mouse game with CO fans ! Last season should have told us something regarding the CO story line. Don't know what it is going to be beautiful for this season...?! Just wondering, because last season was supposed to be very adult and beautiful as well...this kind of statement keeps me puzzled and the way Shonda and her writers keep selling this kind of pseudo "baratito" femenism is really disturbing. Does she really think that nowadays women are so nuts ?

I need Spoilers Anonymous LOL! Me too! Upthread, there were hopes expressed that we'd see Owen's PTSD touched on again. I agree that the disappearance of that plot bunny for the last two seasons has been a disappointment -- but I doubt the writers will ever go there again, as it would call for a lot of explaining to get the "average viewer" up to speed. Unfortunately, Shonda and her writers aren't writing for us. They're writing to please the average viewer, and Owen's PTSD is old history by now. ::sigh:: That's what we've got fanfic for, I suppose...

I hope she is home before the end of the first half, I personally would find the season too draining as S8 was. Since the show's fan base will already be suffering b/c of the loss of Lexie, and the OC drama from last year, they can't afford to drag on the supposed OC reunion for too long for risk of losing more viewers.

Unfortunally GA writers are very good at playing with fans frustration and CO story line is where they are excelling now, and it works ! Because we are all about when CO are going to be back to each other ? ! ...And the season is still to start ! LOL !

With the latest spoilers about Meredith turning Ellis Nazi like in the first half of the season, I now suspect that might be how Cristina comes back in the second half of the season. Derek may be worried about Meredith and if Meredith is acting like Ellis as EP has stated maybe she starts to neglect Zola a little bit? Cristina comes back to b***h slap Mer back to normal and ends up staying?

Just a couple of thoughts:
1. On the "nasty Meredith" news: I don't know that we can jump to the conclusion that Meredith behaving like Ellis in the hospital (being hard on her students and colleagues) means Meredith behaving like Ellis at home (neglecting her child). So I'm not ready, at least not yet, to go along with the theory that Cristina might come back from Mayo for Zola's sake. I do think, though, that this development might have some impact on the Mer/Cris relationship. There have been many references over the years to how Cristina reminds Mer of Ellis; Mer even said that she was "raised by a Cristina" in that speech I hated so much in the S8 SP, when Mer told Owen he should accept the abortion. Maybe with Cristina gone, Meredith needs to channel Ellis herself instead of using Cristina as a way of connecting with her dead, mean mommy. We may not like it (I know I certainly don't), but Shonda is pretty obsessed with the Mer/Cris relationship. She said in an interview at the end of last season that she is very interested in how Meredith and Cristina handle their separation from each other (my recollection is that she said that the Mer/Cris separation was more interesting to her than whether Cristina and Owen separate). Maybe becoming the new "Ellis" will help Meredith realize how she was forcing Cristina into a particular role and limiting Cristina by doing that? If Mer had more faith in Cristina's ability to be both a surgeon AND a wife/partner/perhaps even mother, it might have helped Cristina move forward differently. If Mer learns something about herself through this, it may help her see Cristina differently as well.
2. On Mama Avery/Debbie Allen's return: I may be alone in this, and I say this with great respect for Debbie Allen as an actress, but I actually don't like the character of Dr. Mama Avery very much. I think she is written in such an over-the-top way that she is almost a cartoon. It would have been much better, IMO, if the character of an older, experienced, successful female surgeon was presented as more of a positive role model, instead of as a stereotypical interfering "big mama" to Jackson and an aging "femme fatale" for Webber. Mer provides Cristina with a terrible example of how you turn out when your mother is a famous surgeon; Jackson might have provided Cristina with an alternative, positive example, but Shonda is incapable of portraying a parent/adult child relationship in a positive light, at least when the parent involved is a female surgeon. It just seems like a waste to me. JMHO.

I feel the same way about Ma Avery, I love Debbie Allen, but could really care less about ,the character. I am still bitter we have only had two-ish scenes with Owen's mom (if you can count the wedding).
ITA with you that Mer is transferring all her mommy issues on to Cristina because Cristina is so much like Ellis in some ways, but at the same time she does not get that Cristina is a lot different personally than her mom. It is also deeply affecting Cristina's marriage to Owen. If meredith wasn't so possessive of Cristina I would believe she had the capability to realize what u suggest about her pigeonholing Cristina into a specific role and holding her back. At the same time tho, Cristina has allowed for this to happen, and she has to break free of Meredith in order to realize her own potential as a partner for Owen, and that being a surgeon and wife are not mutually exclusive roles, they can exist together it depends on how much effort you put into it, and from all accounts of Meredith's mom, Ellis put in zero effort except in her relationship with Richard which got her nothing in the end but a broken heart.

I also could careless about Debbie Allen returning once again as Mama Avery. Just because she directs which I have enjoyed her epis does not mean we want her back all the time. Why not bring in Tyne Daly, Debra Mooney or the actress who played Cristina's mom again? Thank goodness we get to meet Alex's dad finally sometime this season. Why is Meredith teaching interns? Thought residents do that. Is this a redux of season 4 because that is the season I stopped watching the first time. Many of us only returned in season five due to the addition of a certain love interest for Cristina Yang and off the charts chemistry between them!

an aging "femme fatale" for Webber. ;D Lol Hopew Still wondering why Cristina will return to SGMW (if she does), I find impossible for SR to put her away for more than a few episodes. I don't think she will return for Meredith or Zola, I wish for Owen but I have a doubt. As llindssey_CO said a few pages ago, I also feel like Cristina will change in a way, having only surgery in her life will make her realize that she wants more. On the other hand, I can see her leaving the Mayo fellowship if she doesn't like it or something bad happens there, she wanted to leave SGMW at the beginning of S6 because she couldn't learn or because of the low rankings of the hospital in S5.

Justine, I think you really might be right. This really could be how Rhimes is thinking. Recycling storylines ... I think you read Ms Rhimes pretty well. Thanks Tania ! ...but for CO shippers sake, hope that I am a crappy speculator because if we have to wait episode 12 to have a CO scene and to wait untill episode 24 to see them back together...the season to come is to be an agonia announced then! LOL ! Me too, not interested in Ma Avery. Want more about Ma Hunt and Mrs Rubinstein ! Regarding Meredith being nasty Meredith, I think that her speech to Owen in SP8 about Cristina resenting her own child was shadowing her being a mother to Zola and it will display in the first half of the season. And no, I do not want Cristina back to Seattle for Meredith or Zola or Derek or whoever else, excepeted for OWEN. She has to come back, ONLY for Owen. Otherwise, she can stay at Mayo and I will keep Owen for me ! LOL !

It just seems like a waste to me. JMHO. I'm with you on this. I could care less about Ma Avery and I don't like her character at all. It seems to me that Shonda Rhimes is not capable of potraying a functional, healthy mother/child relationship when the mother is a surgeon. They're either neglecting their children or they are hitting on everything that is male, a bit older and moves. ITA with you I would have liked to see someone providing a positive example for Meredith (not ALL surgeon moms are like hers) and for Cristina as well. Another missed opportunity to be added in Shonda's long list - to tell a really mature and real storyline. Re: Meredith, till now she was nasty only with Owen, now she's gonna have the same attitude towards her interns too. Not looking forward to it, but if she gets to learn something - as you said - I'll take it.

Just saw Kevin's tweet, saying that he was directing Sandra and Bill Daniels in 9.4, and they were great.
William (Bill) Daniels played Cristina's examiner last season (in 8.22 or 8.23 - I can't remember which). I'm betting this means he is playing her cardio mentor at Mayo.
I think this is good news. I've been afraid (and even afraid to say out loud) that Shonda might try to "test" Cristina and Owen's relationship AGAIN by giving her a temporary love interest while she's at Mayo. Cristina has a bad history of sleeping with her male mentors (Colin Marlowe and Burke). Daniels would be more of a father figure for her, which IMO could be a good way for us to see some growth in her character. Plus, Daniels is a really good actor.
I haven't seen any official announcement of this, has anyone else?

not so sure Im keen on the Cris/Mer episode Im hoping that there relationship changes, matures and that the men in there lives actually get to be there number one, there most important person for a change I suppose it is POSSIBLE that that will be the point of the Cris/Mer episode - - to show them growing into emotionally mature women who understand that husbands don't always take second place to "BFFs." Not likely, perhaps, but maybe possible. I've been thinking about the idea that Mer will be channeling Ellis in her angry reaction to the plane crash, Lexie's death and Derek's injury. It has always seemed to me that Mer had a lot invested in Cristina being the "new Ellis." IMO it's one of the several unhealthy aspects of their friendship - - it's as though Mer is trying to get a "do over" of her terrible relationship with her mother by having a close relationship with an "Ellis-clone." (Whether Cristina really IS the new Ellis is a separate discussion - - before last season, I would have said absolutely not, but after some of the things she did during S8, I'm not as sure.) But the point is that we've been told repeatedly that Mer sees Cristina as Ellis-like. And Ellis's marriage to Mer's father was, as we know, a total failure. Maybe on some level Mer needs Cristina's marriage to fail as well? Maybe that's part of her negativity about Owen and about Cristina and Owen's relationship? If Cristina is capable of having a loving, enduring relationship with her husband, she'll be proving that she is NOT Ellis, and Ellis is who Mer needs Cristina to be. I still find it very troubling that Shonda believes that the Mer/Cris relationship is the central relationship on the show, given how (IMO) dysfunctional and unhealthy it is. It seems unlikely that this, finally, will be the year that Shonda lets Mer and Cristina grow up and relate to each other as adult close friends instead of neurotic co-dependents. But I guess we can still hope!

I think she was Derek's patient who always signed a DNR but always survived, except this time she didn't and the husband kept doing CPR, and then Bailey kept doing CPR and finally Derek took over CPR and let her die.

IMDB, plus my obsessive consumption of reruns on Lifetime tv this summer. That scene broke my heart. Once I looked up the husband on IMDB I remembered it well. He had much more to do in the epi, Bonnie Bartlett was essentially dead the entire time.
